So frightening. When my children were small, I left them in our fenced yard to run inside for a few minutes. I had no idea that they had learned to open the front gate. I came back out & no children--I can't describe the fear, but my neighbors down the road heard my cries & came to help. They were found (thank goodness) playing in a creek a street over, where we had gone on family walks. Our dog, Bob, was with them & they happily told me that, "Bobby showed us a new way to the creek!" I was not too happy with Bob!

Yes it’s very frightening. 50 years ago my mum awoke to find me missing from my bed. I was 4 years old, fortunately I had just climbed out of the window to play with my friends who I had heard outside. My mum still has a panicky feeling when she thinks about it.

I wondered whether one of the adults asked her if a bad man had taken him but it was forgotten in such an emotional situation. Two is very young to make such an assessment, even for an older child her brother would have had to been kicking up a stink if he was snatched for it to be judged as something done by a bad man, and that would have been heard by the neighbours. I think he wandered off into an accidental death. Of course I feel for the parents and sister, but his grandmother must have shouldered such a burden for something I don't believe was her fault.

Yes, 'bad man' is a little strange for a 2 year old to say. Mostly parents say to little kids words like naughty. So yes, did someone ask the little girl if she saw a bad man or maybe this man's behaviour was so violent that he was beyond naughty connotation of a kid or was he someone the parents had commented on previously in front of the kids as being a bad man, someone they knew but not by name. Like someone on tv or someone in town causing trouble or at an event causing trouble.

This may sound quite strange and I'm sure DNA comparisons have been made, but I can't help but find similarities between Balmore John Doe found in Scotland in 2011 and Sandy Davidson. He fits into the age parameter and the age progression/reconstructions look quite similar. Just a thought, that's all. I hope Sandy will be found soon so that Donna can have some answers. Heartbreaking and agonizing to think about as my little boy is just a little younger than Sandy was when he vanished.

I reckon the story about how he ended up in the car is probably what happened. The 1970s were a different time and that sort of thing was a lot more common, kids had no sense of stranger danger and were much more adventurous. He was desperate to find his dog so would have quite happily climbed into the car of someone offering to help. Roaming the streets looking for his dog, passing toerag sees him, pulls over and asks him what he's doing, picks him up to "find the dog", abducts him. That's not at all outlandish and would be much harder to detect back then. My parents were teenagers in the 1970s and the sort of things they describe as 'normal' back then frankly blow my modern mind.

In these cases it’s usually a neighbour or someone close. I know as family is police and my aunt was a detective on a case where a toddler went missing. The toddler was finally found under a pile of stuff in the back room of the local corner shop everyone knew him he was a lovely man etc he helped in the search and his back room was searched but no one found the toddler….my Aunt never got over this case as she searched that shop and back room and didn’t find the toddler. Evil acts on impulse they saw a glorious little boy and snatched him and took him into their house. In those days we weren’t told not to go with people we were told to be polite and nice, stranger danger wasn’t a ‘thing’ then. I wish when children like this went missing it was law that everyone’s houses and flats and shops were open to the police to search end of story. So many children would be found ALIVE.

This case sounds very similar to the disappearance of Ben Needham. I believe Sandy was killed accidentally around the building sites that surrounded the house/garden he was last seen playing in and a builder covered it up and claimed that he saw Sandy getting put into a car as red herring. The builder is likely dead now and can't answer for his action. It seems pretty strange why the school nearby wasn't excavated when demolished....

Even toddlers can go much further than we would think, so a four/five year old could go miles. No-one ever mentions, either, that when people are looking for kids, they're (obviously and needfully) yelling, and would sound angry to a small child, especially one who is aware he originally disobeyed by leaving a yard, or wandering off, so might not answer, might even hide, thinking he's in trouble. This, too, would make him more vulnerable to an adult who wasn't yelling, didn't seem angry, who offered help. (Used "he" for grammatical correctness, not out of prejudice!)
