In terms of songwriting, structure, passion, awesome music ability and groove - this is literally one of the greatest songs ever written. And that’s before you get to the lyrics- which are some of the best and most moving storytelling ever. What a band.

Fun fact for Roosterteeth fans out there: Dismemberment Plan formed at the same high school Joel attended in the early 80s. In the RT Podcast #35, Joel tells a story of a shooter holding his principal hostage at Lake Braddock Secondary School, a fact he later confirmed on Twitter. After a couple curious minutes on the Lake Braddock Wikipedia page, I noticed two members of this band in the notable alumni secton, immediately recognizable due to Gus's spiel on a later podcast. They even graduated in the same year Joel presumably did, although he had most likely moved schools by then. So there you go. I bet by borrowing a pencil from some guy one day in seventh grade, somehow inspiring a lyrical masterpiece, Joel inadvertently made Gus a little bit happier. Everything comes full circle.

I dont think people know what pitchy means. It means being off pitch. Off key. He is not off key. He is not pitchy. He may not have born with the mellifluous of voices, but he dont sing off key.

Verse 1] Well, now I notice the streetlamp's hum The ghosts of graffiti, they couldn't quite erase The blank-faced stares on the subway as people go home The parks lay empty like my unmade bed The streets are silent like my lifeless telephone And this is where I live, but I've never felt less at home [Chorus] So I'm not unsympathetic I see why you left There's no one to know There's nothing to do The city's been dead Since you've been gone [Verse 2] Sometimes I stand on my roof at night And watch as something seems to happen somewhere else I feel like the breeze could pick me up and carry me away Out and over the iridescent grid Up and away from the bar fights and neon lights And out and away from everything that makes me what I am [Chorus] So I'm not unsympathetic I see why you left There's no one to know There's nothing to do The city's been dead Since you've been gone [Outro] Oh, I never had just whatever it is you want, baby And I really tried, tried and tried with all my might, it made me crazy To try to figure out what it is I've done wrong every time When everything I love, everything I hold dear Heads out sometimes All I ever say now is goodbye Bye Bye Bye Bye Bye

Sometimes I stand on my roof at night And watch, as something seems to happen somewhere else I feel like the breeze will pick me up and carry me away Out and over this iridescent grid Up and away from the bar fights and neon lights Out and away from everything that makes me what I am So I’m not unsympathetic I see why you left There’s no one to know There’s nothing to do The city’s been dead Since you’ve been gone…

Rooster Teeth is a gaming company that branched out into youtube shorts, a (very popular) podcast, and even a game show. Gus is the host of the RT podcast and he recently said that The Dismemberment Plan is his favorite band, even going so far as to buy a plane ticket to fly from Texas to Washington DC just to see them live. That was enough reason for us all to check them out. And I'm pretty impressed.

I liken Travises vocal style to that of Paul Banks of Interpol. They both have a very understated sense of beauty and a very obvious sense of sincerity to how they sing, which almost sounds like they're just speaking. They both sound like this is what they'd be saying to me if I asked them how there day was. You don't find that kind of "realness," for lack of a better term, in many other vocalists.
