This demo was done as a final for our Game Design class at East Tennessee State University (ETSU). To celebrate the announcement of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl earlier this year, we felt it was appropriate to design a first-person recreation of Pokémon Platinum’s Distortion World, but with our own unique twists.
There are a few main differences between our recreation and the way Gamefreak dealt with the Distortion World in Pokémon Platinum. The most obvious differences lie in how the camera pans and the angles at which the platforms are rotated. In Platinum, the surrounding platforms only exist at 90° angles. However, with our demo, the platforms can exist at any angle, rotating the player to provide a more immersive, first-person experience. Our project only presents a subsection of the Distortion World compared to what is shown in the actual Pokémon game.
The pixel art in-game was designed by BlackberryKin. The sounds used in the game were either collected as CC0 from freesound.org, given permission for use or designed ourselves. The remastered Distortion World theme was designed by Zame ( / @the_zame )
