Yes it does. I had an abusive ex who used to beat me daily, stalk me for over a year. She left threatening, demanding notes on my car. She broke into my apartment and went through my phone that I left charging. She threw a brick through my back windshield. She threatened my daughter. And the police basically told me to fuck off because I'm a dude. Good times. Men make up a huge portion of domestic violence victims. Not to mention, men make up the majority of homicide victims. The majority of violent crimes victims. The majority of suicide victims. The majority of death from workplace accidents. This guy is a POS. Violence against women is absolutely disgusting in any form it takes. But it really is a shame how little support male victims really have.

I've got apps that mirror her phone that she doesn't know about and I occasionally take a day off work to follow her or sit across the road from her work to see what she's up too. But Clare’s mom said herself that no one, her family or friends, knew the danger she was in. So how were the police supposed to? They weren’t present to any of the threats. It’s literally he said/she said. I don’t really think the police let her down. They’re not superheroes. It’s an absolutely tragic case. But this guy was psycho and determined to do what he did. If someone wants to kill you badly enough, they probably will unfortunately.

I do agree that stalking should be talking much more seriously but I don't think it's fair to blame the police. This went on for months however before Clare finally reported it, so prior to that you can't blame authorities when they weren't informed. Furthermore, the police didn't talk to coworkers so it is possible they were never given that information from Clare about witnesses at work. As stated in the video, he had no criminal history; law enforcement can only do so much without the laws behind them. Even if officers do charge someone if there is insufficient criminal history or evidence it's the courts that won't proceed with the charges. At least now with the tougher stalking laws hopefully this will prevent further tragedies. Why he was released on bail though I will never understand. It is the courts and the lack of laws that are often the real problem.

What baffles me is that despite all the information and open discussions about the dangers of stalking, victims like Alice Ruggles were still let down by law enforcement. Every complaint must be taken seriously as a potential threat to life and every stalker must be removed from the potential to carry out their threat. That means no bail, no probation, no release back into the community until that threat is extinguished.

Other than a total of two officers, I don't trust the police worth a damn. Too many bad apples and more than enough who don't do anything about it, making the entire bunch of apples bad. I have a conceal carry, a knife I always have on me, and a knife in my car on top of having learned self-defense. I've already gone through enough DV and SA to know the police aren't gonna do anything, even with evidence - especially if the perpetrator has connections. So frankly, idc if I go to prison, I'm taking matters into my own hands and I'm fighting to kill if it happens to me or if I see someone else go through it. I refuse to do nothing and allow such lowlives to continue polluting the air with their breathing and hurt someone when they'd get a slap on the wrist until they murder (and even then, sometimes they get ridiculously short sentences). Go ahead and report to the police and do everything, but I personally would rather act first than wait until it's too late. Because by the time the law actually finally does something or the case is considered serious and not just paranoia, it's a matter of life or death by that point.

@@esteemedmortal5917 Quite right! There was a consistent pattern of behavior with witnesses that the police didn't even bother to interview in Claire's case. In Alice Ruggles' case she was more or less just brushed off despite having reported her stalker, provided a statement and evidence of his behavior. I'm glad Claire's mother pushed to change the law and not only force the legislation to make stalking illegal but also to create a foundation that allowed for all victims to be categorized as high-risk immediately.

Abusers are released soon after arrest. Suspected murderers are released. Stalking is no more an offense for life in prison then sexual assault. Less so. They go by prior records and how the law is written. Honestly. I know it is the UK. But I believe Japan and Singapore have the best legal system in the world and the U.S. definitely needs to adopt it. Our prisons can rival cities with their own zip code! This one was really hard to keep watching, because you knew exactly what was going to happen, including the completely inadequate police response. It was like watching a horrifying train crash in slow motion. She did everything right and still, she is dead. When I was stalked I didn’t even think of going to the police…I just blamed myself for giving the wrong signals…somehow…and constantly asked male friends to walk me home. Retrospectively that was really slipshod, but like this young woman, I didn’t want anyone to get in trouble and I was terrified, I might make the situation worse, rather than better…

I was so angry that he treated me in such a manner. It seems that even though we have the same rights as men we are still considered second class citizens. As for WOC, they are still treated to this day in America worse than Caucasian women. I happened to go to the same college as my Highschool sweet heart. We broke up senior year but stayed friends into college. During college I was dead set on having her fall for me again and I went through lengths to see here when I could and be there for her when she needed. She would call me all the time invite me over talk to me about everything even let me sleep in her bed. Then she got a boyfriend and I was heartbroken. I found my self skating around her apartment looking for her location on apps and her friends stories and as soon as I realized what I was doing I went to my schools therapist, I even talked to my other friends and decided to transfer schools. Now we maintain a healthy friendship and I have actually moved on and I think what im trying to say is, gentlemen. Love is deep and complex especially when you’re young. If you find your self even beginning to try and control someone’s life if you are telling someone the situation out loud and it sounds like you have an obsession. Then please be self aware enough to see someone about it and get your self out of that situation before you loose your mind and become a risk to your self and the people you love.

I was a crazy on and off girlfriend to my now ex boyfriend, and looking back I was very young (almost ten years ago this started) and I was obsessive over him and would try and control everything about our break ups or him leaving I would throw massive tantrums and looked like a pure psycho... so finally after our break up, after years of him putting up with my shit, I actually left him... Then I never acted like that again, I got in medication that helped with my ups and downs and anxiety, then I dealt with some counseling and looking back it is so disturbing to see myself as this control freak almost stalker... but I guess my point of sharing this, is girls almost get an excuse for their toxicity where men really do get targeted on behaviors like this... and I really think it should be illegal and immorally wrong no matter what gender... I took a self defense class in college. One of the things they taught is to loudly challenge someone who gets in your space without permission - be rude - and they had us practice. It was hard to do! Female socialization in action. Lots of giggling and halfhearted attempts. The teacher called us out on it: “BE RUDE!” She made us do it until we were all treating the exercise seriously. Some gals were upset to the point of tears, but we all got the lesson. It came in handy soon after when I did something stupid - went to a car wash alone late at night. I was vacuuming and listening to the very loud radio 🥺, knelt down between the front door and the front passenger footwell. The vacuum stopped and I became aware of a guy behind me. He was knelt down too, with his legs spread from the door to the car frame, blocking me in. He said “Hi beautiful” with a big smile. I pointed the vacuum hose at him like a gun and yelled “GET OUT OF HERE!” looking him sternly in the eyes. He put up his hands, backed away and left. I quickly left too, though I wasn’t done cleaning my car. I wrote all that to make the points that (1) Don’t put yourself in dangerous situations, and (2) Make a scene. Yelling is OK! That RUDE exercise was a turning point in that class, which included learning how to break their little fingers if you’re being strangled, and breaking their kneecap by aiming beyond the knee (not just at the point of contact, but a few inches past the kneecap) so your kick will have some real punch. Everyone was more serious about the need to practice self defense techniques. Finally (3) Learn self defense. In most cases we can’t overpower someone intent on harming us, but the various techniques give us a fighting chance.

I was stranger stalked in the early 80's. Thank goodness I had a sex crimes detective who was on the ball and educated me on what to do to help protect myself. One thing he told me was that stalkers almost never do anything, but if they do, it will be the most f**ked up thing you wouldn't be able to imagine. I've been dealing with a stranger-stalker who I met because he was hanging around outside my work and he started following me home. One time he stood outside for three hours, just waiting for me to leave. And the cops did they can't really do anything unless they manage to catch him in the act, since I don't know who he is. I didn't even find out his first name for six months. He doesn't follow me like every day, he just shows up at random. At this point, I just get my dad to pick me up from work if I see him, since I know he takes the bus like I do. I think he has a crush on me, but he's also looks like he's 17-19 and I'm almost 30 so I'm just baffled and creeped out. At least my boss (who's a huge guy, easily twice the size of Stalker Boy) is supportive and told me to call him if I see the guy

So many women in today's world still have this thinking they'll just depend on someone else(cops, dad, bf, big boss etc) to protect them, & it drives me NUTS. Nobody but YOU is or can be responsible for your immediate safety. By the time police or a bystander responds to your calls or screams for help, you could well be fatally injured or killed. Or worse abducted, tortured, raped & then killed. You must be proactive. For starters up your situational awareness(be curious about the world around you basically), & if you live in an area where you still have the right to carry a concealed firearm with/without a license. do that. If so, take a class or 2 to boost your confidence & ability in protecting yourself with it! If this right has been taken away, MOVE (seriously! That sadly is the case for the location of this video & the tragedy that occurred. The result is defenseless citizens, & fruit loops like this guy STILL able to illegally sneak in a gun & murdering poor Claire. You can't help but wonder had she been more situationally aware and armed she may well still be alive today. 😢 Though it by no stretch will replace a firearm, at the very least carry a pro-grade pepper spray like POM. Either way, carrying on your person is much preferable to in a purse. There are plenty of cases where that minimal delay was critical in women's ability to protect themselves or not. Take your safety THIS seriously, you'll feel much safer going about your daily life because you ARE safer! Just a concerned guy here on this crazy thing called KZbin! 😆 If this novel of a msg saves even 1 woman's life, it was well worth the trouble to me. 😁

This story I remember, R.I.P. beautiful Clare, blessings to your family. I am now in my 73rd year but remember clearly being stalked and threatened when I was about 16. I was terrified and would never have thought of going to the police or even telling my mother. She would have said that it was my fault, ( it most certainly was not,) but that's how it was when I was a young girl. Schools should be teaching young people about this threat...I was ashamed to ask for help and was scared to death. Fortunately the young man in question was arrested and imprisoned on another offence and my family moved away, but I never forgot him. R.I.P. Clare and Sarah Everard and all victims of testosterone.

What I've come to realize after all these years of hearing the police say that is this: If they keep shrugging their shoulders saying they can't do anything, then it shouldn't be a crime for you to give it right back. Get some intimidating people on your side and stalk back. Make the stalker fear for their life. Set them up for a beatdown so bad or a threat so terrifying that they'll get sense knocked into them. And when they try to blame you to police, the police will "have no evidence."

When I was 18 I was in a relationship for a very short time, around 5 weeks, the guy was really full on and wanted to be with me 24/7 even when I managed to spend time with anyone other than him he'd call me constantly. It started to scare me but I was also scared to end things. He called one night and asked me to spend the night at his, I told him I had plans with a friend and I'd see him the next day. I never seen him in person again because that night he murdered his mums girlfriend. He bludgeoned her, dismembered her and hid her body. I found out when murder detectives turned up at my parents home to interview me. This sent me down a path of blaming myself, I still do. His mum and sister both took their own lives. He then started writing to me a few times a week, I never replied but the letters were like he'd done nothing wrong. They were declarations of love and plans for 'our future' when I didn't respond they turned vile and he described in detail what he'd done and that it was my fault. I had to goto the police and ask them to step in and stop them. He got 12 year for that brutal murder, then whilst serving that sentence he got another 12 year for attempted murder then another 5 year for disfiguring a female prison officer. He was released in 2022 and within weeks was held under the mental health act where he then tried to kill his therapist. The therapist although critical thankfully pulled through and for this he's now back on remand for another attempted murder. It terrifies me. The probation was meant to notify me upon his release but failed to do this and instead told me once he'd been remanded. I hope this time they never let him out again. I still feel like it's my fault, I have cptsd and severe anxiety and agoraphobia, night terrors which have gotten worse since I found out he'd been released and was back in the area I live. RIP, Sleep easy beautiful ladies ♥

Stalking actually disturbs you on so many levels and you can never relax. They is the stalker’s aim.. to drive you mad. In my experience the only thing to do is move away, abandon your family temporarily and lie low for a year or so so the stalker can refocus on some other poor person. It is too dangerous to tell police and again, in my experience they don’t do anything.

I had the same stalker for 31 years (it’s actually longer) she followed me, broke into my house multiple times, would open and edit my mail - then post it back to me, she stole my clothes, told my family horrific lies and then magically appeared in every city I moved to over a 30 year period. She stalked my boyfriends, my family, stole my dog (I dealt with that in my own way)It just went on and on. And on. My very own Single white female. Police would not help. Finally resolved the issue. I moved all over the country and changed my name, and she still found me. She some how found out where I was living, working, studying and who I was dating. All this WITHOUT a smart phone and social media. When she reappeared two years after a ten year absence, and started all the stalking behaviour again and involving my young daughter, a different (and successful) tactic was employed to deter her. I’m 53 now and this has been going on since I was twenty. The fear and stress caused by this nutcase of a woman was unbelievable. I’m sure she is mentally ill. I hope I never see her again. I have support for the cptsd. And a beautiful family. So I’m blessed beyond belief ❤️

I've watched about this case elsewhere. It's one of the hardest ones to learn about because she did the right thing by ending things with him quickly, yet that wasn't enough. While law enforcement should have done more, the question remains: how long do you put a stalker away for? Can a stalker be rehabilitated? It's easy to say the police and the courts should have done more, but it's unrealistic to expect he would have gone to prison for long.

My advice to women is never share your address, workplace, etc with someone you just start dating. And never ignore the red flags, it doesnt matter how small they may seem.
