I was born in orangeville, ontario. Some of the info provided is misleading. Sonia lived in orangeville, on. not toronto, on as stated. Her car was found in an alley in the heart of downtown orangeville, directly behind the municipal office, there is a park on the other side of the alley. Sonia worked at the headwaters hospital in orangeville. Once a year she gave out free teddy bears to children in hospital & community. It was a popular event. I didnt know her personally but had friends who worked with her. She was very well liked & respected. Orangeville was a small community in those days & murders were rarely heard of. It was very mysterious and kept very hush, hush. I do pray this murder is soon solved especially for her parents & other family members. It still leaves an eerie feeling and bad taste in many peoples mouths. So sad, RIP Sonia. ❤

Thank you so much for covering Sonia’s case. This happened near the area I grew up around and it has always bothered me that it hasn’t yet been solved. Now that the EARS and some of the Gilgo Beach/Long Island murders have been solved, I’m hoping there is DNA that they can use with genetic genealogy to solve.

This is a standout case - Sonia just seemed to be such a great girl, a hard worker and a kind person. This case reminds me of another case I found extremely upsetting - that of Jodi Huisentruit - an early morning TV news presenter who had to get up at 3AM to go to work and prepare for a 6AM appearance on TV in Mason City Iowa. One morning she was attacked, kidnapped and likely raped and murdered. Her remains have never been found. Her personal effects were found strewn around the parking lot later in the morning after she never showed up for work. People in the small apt building where she lived said they heard screams coming from the parking lot around 4AM, but, of course, nobody investigated or called the police. What did they think was going on? That children were just outside playing? In Toronto, Ontario, Canada ... we now have a law that is called the 'Good Samaritan Law' which means if you are conscious of or witness a crime in progress, but do nothing ... you can also be charged. Everyone who admitted to hearing screams coming from the parking lot at 4AM should have been charged.

Man, if Sonya had just gone jet skiing that weekend instead of wanting to meet up with the Englishman (Not sure I buy the ol’ “need to touch up on my French for Monday” excuse, lol) maybe she would have dodged this. These kinds of forks in the road freak me out, because you never can guess something like this might be the outcome at the end. Jet skiing is way more dangerous statistically speaking than just staying in and seeing a romantic partner too. It feels like whatever happened that night was more spontaneous than planned, and it’s strange because ultimately she didn’t really pose any sort of threat or obstacle to him. For example it’s not like she was upset about him having a wife (separated, whatever, in murder cases I always find the distinction dubious when asserted by the perp) and she wasnt threatening to expose him or do anything that we know of. The fact that she was on Plenty of Fish seeing other guys doesn’t tell me she saw the writing on the wall with him and moved on, it just confirms that she was fine seeing multiple men simultaneously. Get it girl, as some might exclaim. But i wonder if the police looked into or interviewed any of those fellas she was seeing. There was a time when I would have just assumed investigators would because it’s obvious, but that was before I started watching True Crime vids. The Englishman might have found out about the other men by looking at her phone (happens all the time) or maybe he even walked in on her with one that night, and went berserk. The narrative that he was planning on moving back to England anyways could have been crafted after the fact, when the truth was that he had been planning to do the opposite and was putting all his eggs in the Sonya basket, and thus felt hugely betrayed when he learned that she was cheating (or what he saw as cheating). Thats all speculation obviously, but Those seem like more realistic and likely human behaviors than either the Englishman’s story or the other theories I heard proposed. It’s not Sonya’s fault that this happened to her at all, but it still serves as a decent psa reminder to Never date people who are married, unless you’re just a real sucker for having more trouble in your life than you need. There are “plenty of fish” without all those strings attached- why go the route of adding more unforced complication to your life? Choose simplicity. Unless there’s an option to go jet skiing instead, and then I guess that’s probably the safer bet. Good luck either way!😅

It was specifically stated in the video her English BF was CLEARED. That pretty clearly counts him out. Incredibly unfair to keep assuming he did it and laying out various scenarios. This is the dark part of True Crime. People treating actual real life human beings as entertainment and dragging real people through the mud without any evidence to support doing so.
@phillydisc9708

This wasn't very spontaneous, in the sense, that whoever did it, know how to clean up their trail. So there was calculation involved, it wasn't a heat of the moment incident.

The UK in particular has this weird habit of making saints out of people who die in tragic circumstances, no matter what a piece of crap they were in life or any bad things they had done or very questionable behaviours they had engaged in. I've never understood that. It's even true in cases where the victim was actively committing another crime, or in the case of a violent altercation "started it" and inflamed the situation when the evidence proves the eventual killer was up for just walking away.

Could this have been a contract murder? The lack of suspect evidence makes me think the perp has done this or something similar to it before. They also enjoyed what they did from the amount of blood evidence found, unfortunately for the victim. It's not uncommon for a contract thug to enjoy their work, which is heinous all by itself! That the perp hid the car in the city is telling: they're used to the city being big enough to hide something in plain sight but this one wasn't!The police need to have a broader view of the suspects. Business people and educated people may want something like this done (and for the tiniest of reasons!) but are intelligent enough to know they can't do it themselves. Don't rule out anybody! Find the one and you will find both killers As always, DC, you've done a fantastic job of presenting this sad story! My condolences to her family. I hope they get answers and she gets justice soon!

My guess is the killer was one of the various other men she had been communicating with online. She likely was messaging him already and invited him round on the rebound after the Englishman basically closed the door on their relationship. Given she was using POF there is a very high chance she was messaging a total scumbag, primarily because it's a very low quality site and is popular because it's free. It was probably a local man who was responsible given he knew where to dump the body and park the car. The fact that the autopsy results are not being released with no official cause of death, and there is just vague discussion around "the killer's DNA", makes me read between the lines and strongly believe there is a sexual motive or element to this. It is quite possible she was a victim of the r-word and that is not a detail the police want to be made public, for very obvious reasons. I would have questioned the grounds on which the Englishman was cleared. Familial DNA is also a thing these days and has been used in a number of cases here in the UK already.

Toronto was one of the best-funded police forces in North America, yet the TPS has a mediocre record of solving murder going back decades. They couldn't find this guy who was most likely left a digital footprint? In one famous case a 12-year-old Toronto girl was murdered by a predator who was stalking her track meets. A decade later on a tip from police in BC he was a suspect. Meanwhile, we learned that there were many pictures of him at the sparsely attended track meets. I had an appointment, but when I went to bed, not sure what happened, my face ballooned and my cheek was black and blue, I also couldnt close my jaw right and when I smiled, half my face didnt move. I didnt go in to work. I knew that they would hassle me about having to leave, despite my obvious problem, so I waited until the dentist was open and went. That way I had doctor slips too, guaranteed. Emergency clinic. They pulled the tooth. I got fired for not calling in on time. The place I am out now expects you to call an hour before and I called in today 52 minutes before the start of my shift. I dont wake up to my alarm, so I called when I woke up. I didnt mean to, it just happened. That is what points are for. What work do people have where you dont have to show up without calling to let them know? Is that really a thing? People can just miss a day and say "screw it", I will see them tomorrow? They call that a "no call, no show" around here.

There is another unsolved murder case in Toronto that happened 7 years after this one. The common factor in the victimologies of both cases is that all 3 victims were employed by the pharmaceutical industry. In 2017, Barry and Bunny Sherman were found executed their suburban mansion. They were a billionaire couple who owned a large pharmaeutical factory in Toronto. Although Sonia was way down the food chain from thè Shermans, the pharmaceutical link between them deserves to be checked out. What I've learned from the Sherman case is how dirty and cut throat the pharmaceutical industry in Toronto can be. Perhaps it was a case of a Compassionate Nurse who ran into a collision with the dirty business of Big Business. Did she Freak Out when she found out what her new job Was REALLY all about and they murdered her to shut her up ??? Anyway, I really think that this murder had more to do with her work life rather than her personal life.

That could be a motive, but she's just a nurse, not worth all that trouble to cover up things. Even if she did whistle blow, nobody would believe her, they'd just ruin her some other way. Murder means someone REALLY needed something dealt with.

This is just terrible. I have the name of a person of interest. I called the opp which I can say that I am very upset with the opp officer who came to my residence to interview me. I am extremely upset. He was not interested about where he was living. I would love to meet Sonys mother. This is another reason for not having opp takeover Policing for Orangeville.

Women please carry with yourself always a pepper spray and a tassel gun, be very aware of where you are and who is around,because unfortunately we are surrounded by predators and we can't ignore this reality. It's not about becoming paranoic but about becoming conscious and protective of ourselves. Many women die daily all over the world killed in feminicides by predator men,we can't ignore this and need to be prepared and learn to take good care of ourselves,observe consciously the behavior of those around you,be safe sisters 💖

So just a question…. According to him she was with her “boyfriend “ the night she was murdered. By the sounds of it he was the last to see her. He was leaving town and left not long after and is back together with his wife. . Did Sonia threaten to tell his wife about them? Either way that gives him a great excuse to have his dna at the scene. He said he was at her home and also in her car as she drove him home. So his dna is all over the crime scene. If it’s him (statistically the chances are..) dna isn’t going to prove anything. Tracks are covered.

Seems like the murder was professional. Maybe someone with law enforcement knowledge or background. As a nurse, you wouldn't expect that she would be target for a hit. So maybe she just happened to stumble across something she wasn't supposed to? or mistaken identity?

Some people genuinely believe that working for big pharma is an act of altruism for humanity. One of my best friends did it for a number of years... they just don't understand how underhanded and gross the drug culture is. Hard to believe, but it happens. The "intellectuals" tend to fall into this category. Perhaps she was described as loving and wonderful by her family? I guess we don't really know.
