I just pray that he’s eventually able to understand enough to know that if she could be there with him she would be and that she hasn’t just abandoned him! The way Jeff mistreated this kid the whole time he knew him just infuriates me to no end! In one of his interrogations he says Kyle never listened to him and he always had to just grab Kyle by the neck and make him do what he said. What a piece of sh*t! Kyle doesn’t listen to you because, whatever his issues are, he knows enough to realize you are a piece of human garbage & not worthy of being trusted or obeyed!

@@charlisays I agree... The 2nd 911 Dispatcher, the one to speak with Bruce, did NOT seem empathetic. Not at all. Not even a lil compassionate or even sympathetic.. I understand they have to distance themselves, but its commonly known in the Healthcare field that 'they don't care how much you know until they know how much you care' . I'm an RN and we have empathy, sympathy, compassion, rapport, therapeutic communication, etc... all shoved down our throats the entire time we're in school. I used to be an EMT and it was the same thing - the best way to avoid a lawsuit is to be kind and, if it doesn't come naturally to you, then you must create a decent bed side manner. IMO, if a medical professional has that much trouble relating to the patient or their family, if they can not seem to muster up even the minimal compassion necessary to be in that field, then he or she has no business there and should find another job. But I have some questions. . Why didn't Bruce or Mel see red flags when Jeff was easily angered? Sent random texts? Casually texted about jacking off? Why did they allow such an angry person to live in their home? Why couldn't Bruce complete even one sentence during his interrogation? I understand he didn't do it and that he was prob in shock, but usually the interrogator will try to calm down the person acting this way. It's best to understand what they are trying to say (especially for a legal investgation). So why didn't the interrogator at least TRY to redirect Bruce or Jeff when they went off on nonsensical tangents? Idk, I try to put myself in the others shoes so that I may look at the situation from their eyes but in this case,, I'm struggling. And that says alot for me! Over and 9ver again, maybe hundreds of times throughout my life, I've been told I'm the most Empathetic, Compassionate, Considerate, Non-judgmental person that most ppl have ever met. But I admit I'm having some difficulty here. I'm not judging Bruce here, but I guess I am judging Jeff and the investigators.

I’m not sure if I’m alone on this.. but, I’ve never read two people more wrong than I did Jeff/Bruce immediately after hearing their contrasting 911 calls back-to-back. Jeff seemed shaken up, cooperative, and genuine.. Bruce seemed performative, uncooperative/combative, and genuinely shady as hell calling 911 TWICE simply to bitch out the operator about local law enforcement, while totally disinterested in the active emergency response or at attempting potentially lifesaving CPR. This was definitely a reality gut check!

I thought Bruce sounded off too and that Jeff was genuinely in panic and trying to save Melinda. This is proof that every individual reacts different and we can't judge a book by its cover. Some people will be numbed by calmness when in big stress situations and some people will fake distress and act the part very well.

Oh my god. This was my English teacher. Sixth grade. She was an amazing teacher, and I remember the day we all found out. It was horrible. She helped me so much during 6th grade, I was going through a lot. I remember the day before her death I talked to her, and the next day, she was just… gone. It hurts to think about it, but thank you for covering it. Edit: Coming back to this, I remember when we all found out, a lot of us gathered around her room, and the entire day I don’t think anyone did any work. I remember Therapy dogs coming in too. I think one of my best memories of Mrs. P was when I had to stay after for some missing work and she was telling me all about her soccer stuff, she was really proud of it. I'm so devastated for you and your family. Mel acted as incredible mother by opening her home to Jeff in order to give her daughter and grandchild a chance for a great future, another commenter spoke about Mel as their teacher and how amazing she was as a teacher and as a person, she was clearly a very kind hearted and wonderful human being. It's funny, when I first heard the 911 calls it was from a different YT channel and they did not tell you who was guilty out right...actually, they made it seem as if the "people harassing" them did it. So, when I heard the son in laws 911 call it sounded sorta legit but when I heard the husband I thought he sounded like the guilty one (obviously know different now). He sounded devoid of emotion except anger (which could have been feigned), while angry, he also seemed calm and collected and what was the biggest "tell" (false tell) - he was building an alibi from the first moments of the call (talking about the so called harassment and blaming the police, that they dropped the ball, etc.)...not to mention not trying CPR...in my experience, all USUALLY good indicators of the callers guilt. Now, if I knew from the onset that he was innocent, I am sure the call would have sounded much different, likewise, if you didn't know his guilt or innocent, perhaps his 911 call would have raised red flags (whether warranted or not). I know I am wrong now, but he did not sound like an innocent suffering man in that call (sorry Bruce).

I thought Jeff sounded suspicious on the phone with dispatch because he repeated several times that they all got to the house at the same time and went into the house together. Then when Bruce called 911 talking about things being a miss around there and that police have done nothing yet Jeff is on the phone saying no I can’t think of any one who would want to hurt the family. I was thinking why did he not say that to dispatch. Last what struck me as “off” I would NOT be standing in the yard with my baby when there is a killer on the loose! You go to a trusted neighbor, get in the car with your child and leave the area, something anything but stand there out in the open where this crazy person could kill me and my baby! Well he is the killer so he did not need to go to a trusted neighbor he knew right where the killer was! So sick that Simone can be capable of something like this.

I think he did this to Melinda because she caught what Jeff was doing. She most likely found his bag of weapons and put it all together he was the one doing the breaking in the house. She most likely approached him and said I knew you were a POS this entire time and I’m telling the family. Jeff probably snapped and did this to her so that she couldn’t tell. Kyle was non verbal so he let him live because he couldn’t tell what happened. Melinda made them get a paternity test because she probably hoped Jeff wasn’t the father.

At first, I was in disbelief at how Mel's husband, Bruce, reacted. How can this man, whose just seen his wife's murdered body go on complaining about the lack of security and help from the police department? Then I read 2 replies from Ncoker 7 and Old Man doing High Kicks in Black Socks. It gave me pause to self reflect on my behavior when trauma has hit me and/or my family and the reactions I've gotten from others - especially being a woman. I realized that Bruce is a person who sets aside his grief, horror, and anger to take care of what needs to be done and to make sure that everyone else is ok. Then can he finally deal with is emotions. I am the same way. God bless this family, help them to heal and celebrate the life they had with their mother and wife.

It's a myth that people with down's don't understand death - they absolutely do. But what we do see is a very delayed reaction to death, sometimes it may be 6 months later and sometimes it may be 6 years later. And they will experience it all very vividly in that moment of onset grief and often outsiders will assume the loss was very recent due to how vividly that person is experiencing the loss. So Kyle will be aware but that connection between cognitive knowledge and acceptance takes much longer than in a neurotypical person.

He had been provided with every opportunity to be a good husband, father, and son-in-law, but he destroyed all of it. That’s just when he goes in front of the parole board for the first time. I highly doubt he’ll get released the first opportunity. A lot will depend on his behavior in prison and if he tries to better himself in many ways. My buddy, although not a murderer, had a 3 year sentence originally and was out in 20 months because he got his degree and behaved well.

The Dad is such a good example of shock and reminds me how everyone reacts differently to shock. During his 911 call I was suspicious of him until his interview and hearing the emotion and him putting things together. The brain is crazy the things it will do to protect you when in shock, clearly during the moment it kind of blanked the fact his wife was murdered horribly and focus on the harassment they'd been victims of. Really interesting to see, though equally heartbreaking. Thoughts and prayers go to the dad and his family, so sad.

It’s indeed an important reminder that there is no single, expected, or “right way” to behave in traumatic situations. Reminds me of when everyone jumped on Amanda Knox’s behaviour at that crime scene and refused to believe she was innocent EVEN THOUGH there was not a speck of her dna anywhere on or near the crime scene. People couldn’t move past their “gut instincts” about her in spite of undeniable evidence proving her innocence. Anyway, years later and here I am thinking this poor husband actually committed his soulmate’s horrific murder -because he didn’t act “the way I would have acted”. I don't know for sure but I believe he took an Alford Plea to avoid the death penalty and to forgo a trial. Which just admitting that there is overwhelming evidence that he committed crime but not admitting to actually killing her. Having done that, he's giving a life sentence ( In Ohio he serves 30 years and then can go in front of parole board who can release him but more than likely won't . But it's still possible.) The other three years were added to the sentence so he will actually serve 33 years and then face a parole board. You can bet that anyone that is involved will be there pleading them not to let him out.

Agreed… I’ve heard wayy too many 911 recordings where the dispatchers have zero compassion and they take it personal when the callers are in distress and crying and/or screaming or whatever, and rather than empathizing and realizing that the caller is just in a really crazy situation and is emotional, they act insulted and frustrated and start copping an attitude.. if you are sensitive and have thin skin and get triggered easily, you probably shouldn’t get into such a hectic position that requires that you keep your composure and remain professional .. but yeah, there are some realllllly messed up 911 calls out there that made my blood boil. I didn’t think the dad was suspicious at all. He just must be an alpha-type. I can very easily see my husband cracking off like that, because he would feel it should’ve never been allowed to happen to begin with. They called the police numerous times. He thought it was someone outside of the family home; someone who would’ve had to come to his home, from some place else, so if the police “did their job” they should’ve been able to stop them, or at least, identify them, much sooner. He needed to place blame, immediately, to justify his wife’s murder. His brain isn’t the type to panic, or to mourn first, it’s most likely always been primed to fight first, feel later. He must’ve been forced to cope with some type of trauma early on in his life to react like that. But, his reaction isn’t an uncommon one. Looking at only the 911 calls? I’d never, ever be able to accurately guess which one did it. But if I had to choose one, without knowing any better, I’m sure I’d say the father did it lol..this is because the other is an absolute sociopath and knows exactly how to behave, by watching others. He pulled it off, flawlessly. And the father only knows what’s genuine, to him. Genuine can sometimes be off-putting.

As soon as I heard Bruce’s 911 call I thought, “He killed her”. He immediately starts churning out explanations: break ins, the son is with her, he has Down syndrome. Then he says “her face hit the ground”. That isn’t something you’d say unless you saw it happen. He starts placing blame: on the neighbors, for not “watching the area”, on the police, on the city, etc. I’d only just heard the call but I’ll be damned if he didn’t kill her or have something to do with it. Just goes to show, you can’t jump to conclusions. It’s true what they say: everyone texts differently. Apparently, his immediate response was to try to figure it out, come up with an explanation. In The 911 call, he displayed a lot of behaviors that guilty people will display. Talking to much, trying to explain, placing suspicions in the dispatchers mind, placing blame in others. But he didn’t do it.

Did you already know the son in law was guilty before you watched this video? When I first heard/watched this story (on another channel) I had no idea who was guilty. I heard the son in law's 911 call first, no red flags. Then I heard the husbands and wrongly assumed he was guilty. Why? The only emotion he seemed to display was anger (no surprise, anguish). While he was angry he still had a calm and collected demeanor about himself, very matter of fact. The biggest red flag ("false flag" I should now say) was he seemed to be overly concerned with setting up the narrative of "strange people" harassing his family and that the cops dropped the ball by not capturing the real murder. In hindsight, yes, all his behavior can be explained away and is, as he is innocent. Likewise though, I wonder if you had listened to both 911 calls without knowing who was responsible, would Bruce have sounded as innocent as he did to you? My apologies to Bruce, but I did not get a "poor husband" innocent vibe from him (out of the 911 call I heard).

What caused Jeff to murder Mel may have been as simple as her finding out the truth behind one of his many lies...or as innocuous and predictable as Mel having a kind, motherly talk with him about what he needed to do to be a good husband to her daughter and a real father to her granddaughter. She was a teacher...and I imagine there might have been many teachable moments in Jeff's life with her family, but as a kind person and a good mom, she probably let 99% of the small stuff slide. Whatever happened, I imagine his plan for after the murder might have been to keep living in his father in law's house, letting his father in law support them all...until father in law either happened to find out something Jeff was hiding or said the wrong thing...like "when will you get a job, Jeff?" Clearly he wasn't considering what the absence of Melinda's income might mean to his own comfort and, if he had, might have just thought that his fiance or her dad could just work more hours, but you can't start killing a household's wage earners and expect to have the same standard of living. It's a good thing police locked him up before he killed another member of the family who took him in.

I totally agree with this. I've never met someone like Jeff but had someone in the family that presented some similar traits: he felt entitled to be supported by others and when someone presented the slightest bit of resistence to this, he'd lash out and do revenge acts against them. In addition I think that Jeff was probably one of those sociopaths that you don't even need to cross him out rightly. You can be the kindest person to him but if you do or say the slightest thing that upsets them, even if you don't even know you did something perceived as such to them, he'll out a target on your back. He might be smilling in your face for years after the fact just waiting for the right moment to exert the revenge. Volatile enough to cause damage for the smallest things but cold and calculated enough to plan it properly. Those are the most dangerous people.

I have been on both sides of the Emergency Service's. I was a medic, an Emergency Medical Dispatcher, a 911 Dispatcher, a police and fire dispatcher. Listening to so many 911 calls it is so, so, SO irritating to hear the 911 dispatcher at first not engaged and then when hearing the seriousness of the call, decide that attention is needed and start throwing things out there instead of listening from the beginning. It is terribly embarrassing to hear dispatchers not listening to the caller, not because the caller is over emotional or crazy stuff is going on, but because they weren't listening to begin with. Very, very frustrating! Please know, many dispatchers care about what they're doing and people they're helping (or trying to help). Don't judge us by dipsh*ts like this lady!

This is nothing. There’s a case where a woman called 911 while her car was sinking and she was trapped in the vehicle. The dispatcher was cold and uncaring and basically just kept telling her to “calm down “. The women drowned to death while on the phone. She got no compassion whatsoever in her last moments of life. THAT one was torturous to listen to. You can find it on KZbin but I’d advise against it. It’s heartbreaking and infuriating. I wanted to strangle the woman who took that call. Why get a job like that if you don’t give a damn or have any empathy?

But my gosh, she was so insensitive and incompetent, makes me wonder how she handled other call in her time as a 911 dispatch. I often think of that poor woman and hope she is resting peacefully in heaven, (if that was her belief) but nonetheless resting peacefully in her afterlife.
