I recall Triple H mentioning somewhere that he didn't like the Diva Search either, and that the whole thing was the brainchild of Kevin "I Hate Wrestling" Dunn, current Senior Executive Producer and the closest thing to Vince's BFF. I have railed against Dunn's poisonous influence on the WWE product, and this is just another bullet I can use to make an argument that Dunn has to leave. Seriously, do you really think these boring, pointless, sometimes even outright degrading segments on a 2 hour "sports entertainment" show will get you either an Emmy or a hot model girlfriend? Oh, and did I mention Dunn has a very outdated and misogynistic view on women? And you wonder why it took so long for women's wrestling to gain credibility in the WWE again.

I don't remember a lot from the Diva Search in 2004 which is actually the year I got back into wrestling. I remember the Rock coming out to the Pie thing but I genuinely did not remember Christy trying to feed her butt. I just knew that I liked her the most since she had a ton of energy and was fun to watch. Maybe she wasn't the best worker or the best talker but I always liked her since she had this upbeat and bubbly personality. She really stood out...you would think I'd remember her trying to feed her butt a pie if the Rock was in the ring at the same time.

After the first few weeks I think it became obvious that Christy was who would, or at least should, win the entire thing. She worked her ass off (pun entirely intended) during that entire mess of a search. Her "I'm going to do whatever it takes to win this" attitude made her stand out.

Logan Productions or stupid garbage matches, lame edgy 90's gimmicks, pointless swearing, etc. But yeah it's nostalgia, you always have those fans who pine for the era that they got into wrestling. Some pine for the 70's- early 80's NWA era, some pine for the big muscle head cartoony Rock and wrestling era of the mid 80's, other pine for the attitude era. Me I just want sensible booking, good storytelling, solid matches, non scripted promos and a face of the promotion that isn't constantly being mishandled.

So I’ve been watching all the RAWs from Summerslam 2003 onward and I’m currently deep into the 2004 Diva search, and honestly a lot of it is the drizzling shits. The Kamala thing was the worst followed by the pie eating contest. Rock couldn’t shine shit that night no matter how hard he tried. Diss the Diva is the most memorable thing to happen. I wasn’t watching WWE back then, came back in late 2004/early 2005 after stopping when Austin left in 2002, so I didn’t see it live then, but honestly it’s amusing to watch back 16 years later. Hopefully whenever WWE continues their Ruthless Aggression series on the Network, that the Diva Search is one of the first topics. Would love to hear about it from a lot more people. I’ve heard Prichard bury it on his podcast.

Here's the thing. I have no problem with sexy lady wrestlers, but they've got to be characters, and they've got to be good at what they do!! - In my mind, one of the best examples is Jacky. That lady was so hot, but she could go like there's no tomorrow! - What REALLY annoyed me is when Awesome Kong was cast as "the fat one", because it makes me reflect that vanity is an accessory, just like it was for Billy Gunn, Val Venis, etc, it's not a CORE piece of the storyline. - I'm totally cool with sexy female wrestlers, no matter the cup-size, but I need variety, I need colour and balance. I need characters who prioritize different things. - I like all the attitude era girls, but they needed more girls prioritizing different things. - However, there is ONE attitude girl that I didn't like: Sable. If you can't wrestle, DON'T wrestle, and don't take the PISS out of a legendary worker like Luna Vachon. I know George Steele says "Good workers don't need belts", VERY correct, but Luna deserved one for a push, not Sable, in my mind Sable was the Roman Reigns for the Attitude Era women. I wasn't feeling it, but she kept coming out every fucking night.

It was better, unless your only gateway into women's wrestling is WWE. No knocks to the women today, but there is no way they're doing anything on par with what All Japan was doing in the 90s, be it in terms of in-ring quality or the interest they can gather.
