We're playing Inferno and Purgatorio in the CJMEA band festival and I'm super hype. Anybody else going to be there?

It's the name of an epic poem by Dante. Dante called it the Divine Comedy because poems were referred as high (tragedy) or low (comedy). High literature included were written in a formal dialect with typically bad endings. Low literature were written in everyday dialect with typical good endings. Dante (The author) wrote it in everyday language and it was originally called Commedia, but it was later Christianized. Dante (The character) ends up in heaven, making it a good ending making it comedy.

My school's wind ensemble is playing the whole symphony. I play the first clarinet, and it's so tough with all of the fast moving notes.

BITNABITaccount, The lyrics sound like part of the "Dies Irae", but I could be wrong. It makes sense that the Dies Irae is in The Divine Comedy

My school band almost did the inferno, but we don't have an oboe. :(
@jbirenbaum88810 жыл бұрын
pretty lame band then
@jaegerwolfe636510 жыл бұрын
Jeni Birenbaum Not every band can have an oboe. That doesn't make them lame. If they were going to play inferno, then I give them props. Its a super hard piece of literature to read.
@Jordyn072510 жыл бұрын
we didn't have an oboe so our band director turned it into an alto sax part :)

Damn, they upped the tempo to mega-ultra light-speed (which is probably the tempo it's intended to be played at...). Jeez, who performed this?

I'm doing this entire arrangement this year for high school...does anyone know if the clarinet piece is easy?
@TheRandomAsian7118 жыл бұрын
Sorry, it's not easy :P Unless you happen to be quite good, it'll be a challenge to get it up to tempo (172 bpm). I play flute so I understand the struggle, although the double-tonguing is usually a bigger problem on the clary, so I'm told. Are you in wind ensemble (or the advanced version of band at your school) or concert band?
@kaylakephart17338 жыл бұрын
Han Tran We actually don't have an advanced version of band. If you sign up for band, you have to struggle as one. 😅 We just got Inferno Monday and it's not terrible, but the key signature isn't the easiest. And yeah the tonguing sucks.
@AtomicExplosion9569511 жыл бұрын
I think they might have the same chord progression.
