Hell is the state of the soul powerless to come out of itself, absolute self-centredness, dark and evil isolation, i.e. final inability to love. - Nicolas Berdyaev

Yeah, isolation does not have to be from other people. Real evil and darkness first begins when a human isolates his own heart from himself. Maybe from trauma, but one can also chose to ignore the soul I think. That would be to listen to fear instead of love and also ignore conscience and intimacy.

I feel unable to love and don't know what to do. I don't trust anything or any belief system at this point. I struggle to trust that there is even a benevolent God or Overseer.

@@icephoenix1024 Good points. Intimacy with others can be hard due to conditions imposed by them. Conscience and heart are at the core of things and we can certainly work closely with those.

As-salam. Brother Ihsan, I love the message you share with us. This deen in our times definitely needs more voices like yours; emphasising mercy, unity and deep spirituality rather that blind dogmatism and sectarianism. I always struggled with the idea of eternal hell presented as a state without a function other than retribution, considering Allah has nothing to prove or gain from it. I agree with the points you make, but one thing honestly troubles me. I would like to ask you how can one interpret Quranic ayats about the people of hellfire like: 'the punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved' or 'never will you find for them a helper' or 'they will not find from it an escape' and similar ones? These verses are usually used to prove that hell is eternal and it doesn’t serve as a place/state of burning our egos or removing our sins but as a abode of perpetual agony and torture. Greetings of Peace

I'm curious about your answer. For other people also troubled by this: I looked for more videos related to the topic, in one of them I found interesting explanation. In the ayats speaking about "eternity" many translators used the term "abide". The proper translation of the arabic term khalidoon/khalideen (خالدون خالدين) may be "immortal/living forever" (cause the same term with exactly same meaning was used in another ayats as well). Allah swt in this way could affirm especially to polytheists denying resurrection that they will live forever (and taste consequences of their actions). It doesn't necessary means they punishment is meant to be forever. (Another thing is that in the zone beyond space & time the punishment may appear as "everlasting" in the man's limited perspective). The passages like "they will not find from it escape" or 'the punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved" also doesn't have to imply everlasting punishment if we don't superimpose that in the first place. The guilty one in prison may want to get away or be reprieved everyday as long as he is punished, but it doesn't mean he will not get away at the end, once his debt is paid. Peace.

One more: Shaykh Fadhlalla Haeri points out to the interesting etymology of the world "adhab" often translated in the English translation of the Quran as "to punish". In arabic for example "ma'un adhb' means pure water, so it can also mean "to purify". If you think about ego as a nutshell and deeper truth as a kernel (look the world "kafir"- the one who hides the truth, ergo: knows the truth deep inside) it makes even more sense. Peace.

@@spiritualexcellence God created man for eternal life. Being Agape Love and wanting Adam to desire His Presence, not force Himself upon Adam, He gave man the choice of life with Him OR life apart from Him by the choice of Tree of Life OR Tree of knowledge of good/ evil/ SELF/ Tree of death. But when Adam ate of the tree, he/ mankind got separated from the Source of Life , which brought into creation, sin suffering death and eternal separation, the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good/ evil. The wages of sin is death and nothing we do can return life back into us. That’s why Life Himself Jesus Christ veiled His Divinity in flesh to come as a man , not from mortal Adam of sin nature, to take OUR death upon Himself, destroy its power by His resurrection, to make us a new creation, born of The Spirit for righteousness unto eternal life

there is one opinion that is minority. That being said, that shouldn’t be any consolation- we can’t sometimes the pain of having to wake up early for Fajr…we find unbearable when we are very sick for a few days. How, then, can anyone imagine billions and billions of years of intense burning in the fire? Even if the best case scenario was true, and that hell ceases to exist after trillions of years- how would one find any consolation in that

@@humptydumpty8894 My brother, Ibn Tammiyah is a legendary scholar with extremely strict adherence to shariah. According to ibn tammiyah Any potential threat that can jeopardize the core foundations of Islam must be eliminated root and stem. He truly believed there is one haqq(The truth) and he fought relentlessly to propagate that Pure Truth. There are hypocrites in every sect. I believe both the salaf scholars and the Sufi scholars contributed to Islamic body of knowledge.

@@NazmusLabs yes I agree, Allah’s wrath is not something to take lightly. We are accustomed to Allah’s mercy, therefore we never really think about his wrath.however, Hellfire is a manifestation of that wrath and for even a nano second you do not want to taste the wrath of infinite being- Allah-the most exalted. Also, why would you want to disbelieve and provoke the wrath of Allah for no reason. Just be grateful for all the blessings Allah(one/indivisible perfection) has granted you starting with your very existence to every content of this existence. Allah(the most exalted) is actually very lenient and easy going, however if you arrogantly oppose Allah consistently, then you will know what it means to go to war with perfect/infinite being(Allah-the most exalted)

Let's not forget that a lot of people will spend eternity in hellfire. Steve jobs saying wow at his death bed isn't much better than the pharaoh witnessing that there is no god but Allah before he drowned. Obviously we don't know who will enter hall or who will not, but I just wanted to state the basics to not allow confusion.

People dont always have a chance to change their lives before death. Many people are too young, mentally deficient, are in a cuture where the concept of any God does not exist. I guess that godcan look into our soul and see where death takes us. If so why does god go through this test of following certain ru!es, believing right thoughts, make us responsible for our savation in a world of a thousand religions. God made us, put us through things good and bad and yet takes no responsibility for the outcome. Typical male despot.

Everybody needs to cop with their problems in some way shape or form but taking comfort in God is the best cop out. That's why you really need to find comfort in God and that's the best way to achieve peace and tranquility. What you mentioned is also the wisdom of God because he made us take comfort in Him instead of mortal things.
