On the Xbox1X it gets pretty laggy in the later levels with lots of artifacts. Also currently I have a bug when I throw my hive or turret it would only last 5 seconds then have a 15 second cool down

I feel thats been the problem with this gen of consoles, way too much focus on resolution over everything else and in many ways, you can get better visuals at lower resolution and higher settings as higher resolution is very demanding on the hardware and the end game is better visuals is what matters at lower or higher resolution. Also for PC gamers, I do like the brake down on the visual settings and how much of a hit to performance they do, it's very helpful for many gamers that have weaker hardware and in many ways for higher end hardware as well.

I've said it before I'll say it again, they waited too long and upgraded too little to impress with the new generation. Even at a native 1080 the games are struggling to hit a steady 60 while still delivering graphical improvements over the last generation, with many games failing to deliver a steady 30 (AC: Unity *cough).* You may or may not be aware that the PS3 and Especially the 360 were actually fairly powerful machines at launch with Microsoft selling 360s at a rather significant loss, making the money back off the games and peripherals, this was not repeated with the current generation, though the margins are low. They pushed the hardware on PS3/X360 so hard for so long that resolution was the most significant difference between the games of that generation vs this one. A significant issue with the late previous generation was the degrading frame rates and resolution sacrifices being made to push out bigger games with more impressive graphical fidelity over previous games on old unchanged hardware, this is the con to the overly lengthy life of that generation. The problem with this gen is almost a carry over from the last, with the upgrade being relatively weak even for it's time, Developers are seemingly struggling to put out graphically impressive titles of grander scope with modern resolutions while maintaining acceptable performance, essentially as a consequence of how hard the last gen hardware was squeezed for every conceivable ounce of juice.

@@MarikHavair The problem with last gen of consoles is that it was out for way too long, it should of only been on the market about 4 or 5 years, not 8 years but I understand why the PS3 and Xbox 360 lasted so long, both Microsoft and Sony was losing thier shirt with thoes consoles as like you said, they had high end specs, cpu and gpu compard to PC's at the time and as they ware selling at a lose, they had to make that money back. This gen was diffrent, they didn't try to brake the bank, they sold the hardware much cheaper as well so the overall hardware was going to be much weaker then what was on the market and ideally, the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X should have been released 3 years earlier in place of the PS4 and Xbox One, that might of been the case if Sony and Microsoft was willing to take a hit per console or sell them at a higher price point. The next gen of consoles could be really exiting mainly thanks to a major boost in cpu power, that can allow developers to go crazy in what kind of games they can create, better gpu power is all good but it does little for creative games designs as it's mostly used for higher resolution. So expect a major song and dance for Microsoft and Sony about the cpu power of the PS5 and Xbox 2 because thats going to be the real upgrade I suspect.

I'm using your settings on an old 2500k at 4.5 GHz with 8 GB DDR3 and a 390x. It's actually running pretty well (77 fps in the benchmark), though CPU is definitely at it's limits.

@phillip martin is viceversa 2500k bottleneck in new games while 390x in game like this is closed to 580 and in dx12 run very well... for exsample in red dead redemtion 2 390x is 25% faster then gtx 1060...while i5 2500k will bottleneck a lot

It's about balance. Resolution isn't worth less than settings. It depends on the settings and resolution. Xbox doesn't look balanced though.

Some games don't have that much of a difference between low, medium, high & ultra/maximum settings where other games don't even look like the same game when you reduce graphical settings. Me personally, I run games on my PC at a 1080 resolution as I use a forty inch HDTV for my PC monitor and any resolution lower than that just doesn't look right on my screen.

Consoles won't be interesting hardwares until we can choose settings we want to play with. I'm sure 6Tflops are able to do something like 1080p/High/60FPS on this game, but no, they prefer to impose high resolutions for a comercial purpose. On PC you play with the resolution you want, with graphical options you want, and so with the framerate you want.

Only the first one really. That one also had a huge visual difference between high and very high settings, not just a performance impact! The later Crysis games did try to appeal to the masses by making it accesible to anyone, starting with the ridiculous setting names in Warhead (gamer, enthusiast). Ending with Crysis 3 being a game that just try's so hard to be an American action story, and trying to make the gameplay masculine and cool, while in fact making it less entertaining.

Oddly enough, I get freezes of 1-3 seconds on DX12 quite often. Doesn't happen on DX11. With a RTX 2080, 2700x, 16GB 3200, latest nvidia driver and game installed on evo 970.

Unfortunatenely, the "recommended" settings for a 1060/6GB are crap, atleast for me... and as it seems for many others too. Constant crashes using DX12, and i can barely avoid massive framedrops by settings a FPS limit at 60 (ingame) plus setting a energy profile within Windows 10 that "limits" the CPU usage to 95% instead of 100%. The game is great, and lots of fun. I have spend almost 800 hours in The Division (1) and i wish to spend the same, or more, in the sequel. But these constant technical problems like massive FPS drops and crashes to desktop are not really helping. And i know im not alone with those issues.

Fantastically detailed review...the X here demonstrates simply one thing. The Jaguar cores are too much of a bottleneck and it's time for Ryzen via next gen consoles... especially with newer engines that really require extra horse power.

I don’t think it demonstrates that at all. This is not a CPU bottleneck issue. What it demonstrates is that Xbox One X is barely capable of 4K, and to reach that resolution has to make a lot of sacrifices. It’ll likely be two more generations before a console can comfortably 4K60/Max games of this graphical calibre, unless you believe the next Xbox will have a 2080ti or equivalent inside of it. The problem, therefore, is developers being hellbent of sticking 4K on the box to market to the XOneX community, instead of doing what’s actually best for them and reaching for 1080/60/Max or high, or maybe stretching to 1440/60/low. That consoles prioritise resolution over frame rate is why I switched to PC.

@@elricardo6583 the point is that the oneX should have lowered the resolution to provide higher quality settings. They wanted tha 4k resolution, so they cranked a bunch of settings to low or lower. It's about balancing performance based of resolution vs graphical settings. 4k is just a trendy thing, and they chose to go with trendy as opposed to practical. 4k is amazing, but the 2080 TI is the first real 4k card, yet MS touts that their console is a 4k machine. The 4k on the oneX is a marketing ploy. If they just said "hay, look at the numbers. The OneX is way more powerfull that the Pro" then they could have released games at lower than 4k with waaaaay better performance and fidelity than the pro and nobody would care that it's not 4k because it wasnt promised in the first place. A oneX game running at the same resolution as the Pro, should be able to run with better graphics settings and perhaps, a higher frame rate. But instead, they keep pushing for 4k cuz xbox fan boys want a simple number that they can throw at PS owners without having to understand any of the technical aspects of each peice of hardware. Its blind consumerism

And I have no problem paying slightly more to own a physical copy of a game over having it on Steam. I do have a gaming PC but prefer to have a physical collection. Only games that I have to play at 60fps I'll get on Steam.

I feel you. My sister is a "playstation girl", she rarely plays on her (still quite good) pc. I have a better pc than she does but I have many issues with it. I like and hate pc gaming at once. So console gaming isn´t that bad for me but I really would want to use keyboard and mouse and 60 fps modes :(

Also with settings lower than low at 4K, your picture is more crisp, but far less visually stunning than it could be.. And lower framerates. (Also lets be serious very few Xbox owners even have a Xbox X with a 4K TV. lol

I'd like to see more of these videos with time spent on the 1080ti and RTX2080 over the 2080Ti. I feel the install base for those cards combined should be far greater than the 2080ti. It is cool to see what the best card on the market can do but basically as a quick note. Basically I'd like the time spent trying to get the 1060/580 to 1080p@60 moved or duplicated to the 1080ti/2080 to 1440p@60 or 4K@60 with compromises.

Yup, that's the price NVidia pays now for ignoring stuff like Mantle early, and then later DX12 and Vulkan... They clinged to their DX11 API while AMD was optimizing their architecture for low level API ... now it pays off BIG time . RX580 is an OCd RX480 chip (release was in june 2016) ... now three years later (!!!) nvidia releases 1660 and it's slower in the new api titles :))) but the mainstream non-educated people buy it nonetheless :))) it's amusing

For those on PC, drop volumetric fog to medium and local reflections and shadow quality to high! Little to no difference in visual quality everything else completely maxed but gains around 33% performance. Using this with a 2080ti 4k constant 60 fps (info was from hardware unboxed video, check it out!)

I'm rocking' ultra settings at a 50% render scale from 4K. For me a soft image is an easy sacrifice to make for extra frames. Also very interesting to hear that DX12 actually helps Nvidia cards - I kind of just assumed it would be worse so I'm glad you mentioned it here.

TheTechOasis 1 significant bonus of using render resolution is that your UI is unaffected. Therefore text and HUD remain extremely sharp at 4K with little to no performance loss. I find it especially useful as downscaling text from 4K looks a bit crap. Furthermore, as mentioned in the video you get temporal reconstruction that allows the image to retain some fidelity when static. So yeah some strong reasons not to play at a straight 1920x1080

I think options like terrain quality and draw distances has impact on CPU (since CPU has to pass more date to the GPU). It could explain why Xbox one x is lower than low. That what happens when you have mobile CPU on consoles

DX12 runs better than 11 in this game but it also makes the game crash like every 5 minutes at least on my PC and quite a lot of other people according to reddit. The DX12 implementation is an unstable mess. I had 0 crashes with DX11 and 7 within an hour with DX12 before switching back to DX11. (specs: GTX1070Ti, 16GB@2133MHz RAM, i5-4670k@4.5GHz so it shouldn't be a hardware problem)

A buddy and me bought the game for 5€ in the Epic-Store sale. At first we had crashes all the time and even a bluescreen inbetween. We were trying lots of "solutions", but what fixed it for the most part (still not 100% stable) was switching back to DX11 instead of DX12. The DX12 implementation is really unstable in this game. This is on a new Ryzen 3900x with a 2070S Aorus.

I kind of hate that you now review games with a shitty card like 1060 or a extremely expensive card like 2080 ti, and you ignore cards such as a 1080 ti that now are much feasable to have... with a 1080 ti I have around 50 fps at max settings 4k, and if I go down to "high" instead of "ultra" I get 60fps most of the time at 4k. I was wondering if the visual different between ultra and high was evident but I couldn't see that in this video :( I also wonder if it would be better to have it in ultra 85% resolution or high at 100%

According to a recent Steam survey, twice as many gamers play at 2k (2560x1440) res than do 4k. I'd rather (and do) play games at 2k with all settings on highest on my 2080ti with high framerate. Sure I could do 4k and get a sharper image, but have to drop some eye candy and still have to deal with Much lower fps. Passing on 4k on PC until AAA titles are doing it with all settings maxed on a Single GPU setup. So, mid-2020?
