Hey all - I am aware that some people have very strong opinions about this album. If you want to post legit criticisms about the music, the lyrics, the production or that you prefer Roger Waters’ writing style, that’s fine. But if you write misogynistic remarks, I will delete your comment and block your profile. I get it, we’re all very passionate about Pink Floyd and the feud between band members is difficult to see, but that’s not a blank check for misogyny. Thank you.

I love Division Bell, I remember the first time I listened to High Hopes like it was yesterday and the feelings of nostalgia and closure I feel are just as real as back then. Maybe it's just because I'm not that interested in what happens behind the scenes so I never felt anything towards the whole conflict between Waters and Gilmour but I'm honestly shoked how many people dislike it. This was the first Pink Floyd album I bought on street date April 5, 1994 and it helped me that I caught the World Premiere of the album on the radio hosted by In the Studio host Redbeard. Interviews with David, Nick and Rick. Rick said it “Nick played all of the drums, I played all of the keyboards and Jon Carin came in as a programmer and played some of the keyboards”. Rick is on all of the album and he also helped out with the mixing but stepped down to rehearse for the tour. I saw the tour night two of three at Foxboro Stadium in May, 1988 and my favorite concert to this day and also boycotted my Senior Prom for it. The album is my second favorite album after Wish You Were Here.

To me The Division Bell is the finale of Pink Floyd and The Endless River is the epilogue of Pink Floyd. I finally sat down to listen to The Endless River recently and I loved how it felt like an echo of The Division Bell and like the extended version of Cluster One I've always wanted. And Louder Than Words feels like a lovely reflection by Gilmore on the band. To me Louder Than Words is about connection and love being more important than all of the trivialities of life. And with how dark Pink Floyd can be that felt like a lovely conclusion, and I can't help but tear up at the "Go to heaven Wright" that the album ends with. I think a lot of people dismiss The Endless River because it came out so much later and feels like it's dismissing the poetic finality of High Hopes. But I think it's a beautiful album if you look at it as the last reflection by Gilmore and Mason on what the band meant to them. And that's beautiful in a very human way. It's like the last segment of Time. The song is over, but life goes on for a while longer and sometimes it's nice to be at home where you feel comfortable. Having said all that about The Endless River. The Division Bell is one of my favourite albums ever and was my favourite Floyd album for a long time (it's currently Wish You Were Here).

I was too young to see Floyd live in the 70s (born in 69),BUT I made up for it in the 80s and 90s. Saw Gilmour solo 4 times , Delicate Sound of Thunder 9 times and Pulse 6 times. All great in their own rights. I’d have to say when looking back Pulse was my favorite simply due to the additional material from the Division Bell. Concerts that are very hard to top. In reply to your assertion about tDB standing up with the best of their 70's classics, I know you get some pushback for that, because I do in my capacity as "resident Floyd scholar" among my circles. From one 'expert' to another, I concur wholeheartedly. Of course I need to own my bias about it; this album was released in the States on my 18th birthday, on the very day I moved out of a very repressive home arrangement, and the concert later that year was the first show ticket I purchased with my own $ (talk about peaking early!!!), so yeah...tDB was the soundtrack to my journey into adulthood, and thus remains one of my favorite Floyd albums, and albums full stop.

Another excellent video. I've been excited about this one. I also liked hearing Todd's input on the lyrics, when I listen to music, I rarely ever grasp and analyze the big picture of lyrics, I usually just catch a few lines here and there that I like, because I focus more on the music when I listen. There are plenty of great lines in this album that I always enjoyed before hearing your inputs on the lyrics. "Why did we tell you that you were always the golden boy and that you'd never lose that light in your eyes?"- Poles Apart. and "While you were hanging yourself on someone else's words, dying to believe in what you heard, I was staring straight into the shining sun" - Coming Back to Life. Basically I knew I liked the lyrics to this album but I'm also not too critical or analytical with lyrics so, it's not something I could've gone into that much myself in a conversation. It was nice to hear you and Todd also speak positively of the lyrics. My favorite tracks have always been What Do You Want From Me, Marooned, Great Day for Freedom, Wearing the Inside Out and High Hopes. The other songs are great too, Poles Apart, Coming Back to Life, Lost For Words. For some reason the only track that I would skip sometimes, and consider my least favorite is Take it Back, it just never clicked with me for some reason. Whether or not we share the same opinion on Endless River, I still look forward to hearing your thoughts on that album. I personally loved it, there's also a bit of a first impression bias, because after Dark Side of the Moon, it was the 2nd album I had listened to by them, I was barely discovering the band in 2014, when a friend of mine who's always been a fan was excited for that album, we played that CD so many times. It was one of the albums that got me into the band, to the point where I just start trying out any album of theirs that I hear about.I also think the outtro solo of Louder than Words provided excellent musical closure.

I agree. With everything. This is one of their best albums. Objectively, I would certainly place it at number 3, after DSotM and WYWH. Personally... it's probably my favourite Pink Floyd album. I'm not sure there are any songs on it I don't like. An amazing intro, powerful lyrics, a soaring instrumental, finishing with what it probably the best song they have ever recorded in the studio: High Hopes. I rate the live version of Comfortably Numb higher, but not the studio version. Speaking of lyrics, I think Samson is getting a lot of undeserved hate, mostly because Waters is wracked with regret. She is a good lyricist. Her work on this album as well as on David's solo albums is really good. It's not worse because it's not Roger Waters, it's just different. All in all, an absolutely stellar album.

You’ve convinced me to give this album a relisten, I’ve only heard it once years ago and found it a bit boring but I was a dumb 14 year old too. I find it really irritating, even as a neutral, how people in these comments write it off. It’s fine if they don’t like it, but you clearly have an emotional connection to it and if music is capable of speaking to someone then you should respect that even if you can’t relate. The whole “no Roger no Floyd” debate is very familiar to me, as a staunch defender of Steely Dan’s later reunion albums, so people writing off albums based on simple notions of what a band is and not what the music itself sounds like or does annoys me to.

I'm really happy to hear your take on this album. The Division Bell came out when I was growing up and developing my musical tastes; it's the album that made me aware of Pink Floyd as a band, though I probably had already heard some of their other work before then. I think a lot of people who dislike this album are too strung up on all the personal drama that went on behind the scenes (and still is going on to this day, sigh) and are simply choosing sides. I however was blissfully unaware of this and judged this album on its own merit: it's a really good album. Even now, nearly 30 years later, I still think it's a very solid album, that holds up quite favorably next to the Floyd '70s classics. High Hopes especially stands out to me as one of their best ever songs, a perfect cap on their career. Though after watching this video, I think I'll go back and listen to the album in full again; there are definitely more layers here for me to discover still.

For me, when I first bought the album in '94 I have always thought Division Bell was in general about Waters: An eloquent middle-finger wave to Roger, and telling him "We're much better off without you." I think this is why he dislikes it so much. A friend once summed it up that Floyd has made an album about each member that has left the band.
