He said he's stepping down from leadership. He didn't say hes leaving the Senate, or even that he's not running for re-election. He'll freaking drop dead on the floor of the Senate.

2 terms wouldn't work for the House because of how it operates; it's a huge body, it shifts more frequently than any other US government body, and freshman reps have very little power. 2-term limit in the Senate can work, that's 12 years and Senators have a bit more individual power from the get-go, a term limit for the Supreme Court would be great, but in the House of Representatives experience matters so they need either a very generous term limit, or none.
@madisonmiller4581
@madisonmiller4581 8 ай бұрын
I agree with term limits for the Supreme Court. It's ridiculous that the position is for life. That said, term limits for house and senate would mean that the lobbiests in Washington would be around longer than the politicians. Talk about unintended consequences!

Does the US really need term limits!? the 2020-2022 congress was for a modern congress, expecially compared to the current one, very productive, with some major bipartisan projects, like the infrastructure bill, etc. Let's take a look at those most responsible for that: Pres. Biden: 1 term in the new castle country district 6 term senator 2 term vice president 1 term president Speaker Pelosi: 17 term house member Majority leader Schumer: 8 term house member 4 term senator Minority leader McConnell: 6 term senator I don't think long term legislators are the main problem!

I do think that the wisdom and skill obtained by long stints in the congress is invaluable. But I also think we need shorter terms. I recommend having term limits but then having each rep get a mentor or sponsor that is paid. They can campaign with them like a VP. The mentor should have no voting say but be part of the staffers.

Speaking of healthcare some coverage on the Change Healthcare cyber attack would be nice since none of the major news outlets deem it newsworthy that a healthcare claims clearinghouse that process claims for around 1/3 of all the patients in the US was a the target of a ransomware attack. Why is it that a multibillion-dollar company doesn't have redundancies such as offline backups. It's almost like all those profits go to shareholders and not enhancing patient outcomes, privacy, and security.
