The fact that this one turned out so well was an accident on the part of the BBC. The person they hired to write it had never worked in TV before, and was a Doctor Who fanboy. The BBC had been getting terrible scripts from fanboys in the mail for decades, and assumed this guy was just more of the same. He wound up writing what most fans consider the true 25th Anniversary episode, rather than the one that officially has that honor, Silver Nemesis.

What I liked about the Seventh Doctor was that he felt like a full evolution of the Doctor. He felt like a culmination of advantages the other Doctors had shown (such as using being underestimated to his advantage and his wordplay), but with a streak of experience that made him come off more ruthless and many times more manipulative than usual. He’s played the game for so long that he started to evolve beyond his major enemies like Davros, Master, and Fenric (established to have lost to the Doctor before). The Time War was pretty much the universe biting back at him.

The time war actually started in Genesis of the Daleks, when the 4th was sent back in time by the time lords to Skaro to stop the development of the Daleks as they became to powerful and was a blight on the universe, this is the Daleks retaliation from that event by searching for the hand of omega, which properly started the great time war, but there has been more than one time war.

He didn't. But you have to dig deep in the canon to find the full story. Originally he trundled around in a motorized wheelchair like the lower half of the classic Dalek but at some point (presumably still early in the development of the canon) the Daleks were portrayed in comic strips as being ruled by an emperor who looked like the "egg chair" though the contents of the egg were never unveiled. And of course, there was also a "Supreme Dalek" which AFAIK may, or may not have incorporated Davros.
@Silverwind876 жыл бұрын

The Dalek Emperor from "The Evil of the Daleks" did not look like an egg. More like an oversized coffee pot. And since Davros was not invented yet and he dies in this story it is pretty clear this Emperor was not Davros. The Supreme Daleks are also clearly Daleks. In fact Davros got in a civil war with one of them and allies with the ones in the Revival.

Can we just give credit to Terry Molloy here for his excellent performance as Davros. I’d definitely says his incarnation of Davros is the most Dramatic and Shakespearian. He is so effective in delivering even the simplest of lines and making them become so iconic. Why not just sit back watch the stars and have a jelly baby. They're ever so good you know Five: Davros, I beg of you. Be reasonable. The hand is a powerful weapon. If you use it you don't know what it will do. Please. You must listen to me. Six: You, dried out chair bound raisin. That is time lord technology you hold there. Your arrogance is tiring. Get on with it you decrepid fool. I do wish you would stop wasting my time with all this talk. Nine: Let's see how much power the Daleks wield. because if you use that thing I will climb aboard that ship and tear every last stinking Dalek apart with my bare hands Ten: You just don't get it. Power is nothing. You have nothing, Davros and I'm sorry. I really am very sorry. But remember. You did this Eleven: Ah ha. There's power in that hand but nowhere near that much. And you know what. I think you've forgotten who your dealing with I think you've forgotten who brought the hand to Earth in the first place. Or to put it another way Davros. The sun will set on Skaro for the last time Twelve: Just shut up. Shut up you wrinkly old waste of space. You should take your hand of Omega and throw it into space because if just one person dies on your watch today I will hunt you down I will peel your disgusting person out of that bloody chair and throw you and all your pepper pot pals into a supernova where you can spend your last moments contemplating how weak and insignificant your pointless existence has been.

I love this story but if there's one element of it I don't think gets brought up enough it's the fact that the first doctor STOLE the Hand of Omega from the timelords along with his TARDIS and was never tried for it. THAT is why he is so paranoid in an unearthly child.

Doc: "Every time our paths have crossed I have defeated you." Dav: "HAHAHAHAHAHEEEEE. You FLATTER yourself, Doctor. In the end you are merely another TIME LORD!" Doc: "Oh, Davros. I am FAR more than JUST another Time Lord." I'll never, ever understand why they cut that out of the televised version.

If I remember right, Andrew Cartmel, who was the showrunner at the time, had the idea that The Doctor was actually one of the founding members of the time lord society alongside Omega and Rassilon, basically making him a pseudo God like figure. The idea was (righty imo) shot down by executives during this season so all references to that plot line were cut. However, Silvwr Nemesis managed to integrate that into its plot, with its not so subtle nods to the Doctor literally being god

They felt it was too overt. Andrew Cartmel heavily redid the last episode of Survival as well for the same reason. In the original script, the Master rattled off a lot of the Doctor's origin story.

It really feels like we are missing a piece in the puzzle when it comes to what happend to the daleks after this episode but before the time war. I don't know if it was said in one of the new who episodes but we never really got to find out who won the dalek civil war and why the daleks after the time war seemed to be working together it is implied that the renegade faction won after davros was apparantly killed in the time war and when he was saved by dalek Caan he was taken prisoner immediately and treated like there pet but in the first series 9 two parter he seems to be reinstated as the leader with even the supreme dalek the leader of the renegade faction being obedient to him.

Both sets of Daleks were wiped out in Remembrance by The Doctor and themselves. Davros survives Remembrance by means of an escape pod. Thus, he can start from scratch, avoiding the issue altogether.
@vibingwiththewind28897 жыл бұрын
Fairly sure here's what happened: The Dalek Civil War ended here with the destruction of Skaro's sun. The Doctor tells the Renegade Supreme Dalek that he is useless, and the Dalek self destructs, being the last of the Renegade Daleks present on Earth. From there, while the timeline is confusing, it is clear. We know that the Renegade Daleks are superior to the Inferior ones (the Battle at Foreman's Yard, where they won despite being outnumbered prior to the advent of the Special Weapons Dalek) and we know that the Imperial Daleks occupied Skaro, having taken it earlier. At this time, the Renegade Faction, which earlier could be said to be winning the Dalek Civil War, are losing. They don't own Skaro and their numbers are fewer, but they still presumably control most of the remaining Dalek worlds. Then, in the events of Remembrance, the Daleks have a battle on Earth, with Davros investing all his resources into the matter - the entire force of Imperial Daleks, save those occupying Skaro. The Renegade Daleks, while they commit much, don't commit all their forces. Then Davros destroys Skaro (which is later... uh... reconstructed... or something... or apparently... it wasn't Skaro at all... and that was... a lie... I don't know...) and in the end, Davros is presumed dead by the Daleks, and while the Dalek Supreme on Earth was destroyed, the Dalek Prime - the true leader of the Renegades - survives. Here it gets wonky. The Imperial faction, without Davros, is defeated. They are subsequently dubbed the 'renegades' by the former Renegades - now the new Imperial Faction - who are victorious. The remnants of the old Imperial Daleks are rounded up and destroyed or reintegrated while the remaining Daleks consolidate, the Dalek Prime (who was actually one of the original Daleks who 'killed' Davros in Genesis, according to material) would be transformed into the Dalek Emperor and begin the reconstruction of the Dalek Empire. While the Daleks were damaged by the loss of Skaro, they had other worlds made for Dalek creation, research, and manufacture, so they would not be lost. During this reconstruction, the Daleks discovered Davros, who sued for peace and surrendered. The re-integrated Imperial Daleks who served Davros presumably vouched for him, saying that his brain was essential for the Daleks, and Davros, while he did not command the Daleks, was very important. The Dalek Emperor would watch him, however, and it may well have been under his order that Davros's ship flew into the jaws of the Nightmare Child. It was most likely Davros's ambitions for the successful victory of his species that lead them to begin the Time War. While they would later say that the events of Genesis were the beginning, the true beginning of the Time War is a little foggy (for a war fought all across time), and it can be instead said that Genesis was more like the Versailles of the Daleks - they were initially weakened, but they later came back for revenge. Thus connects the history between the Dalek Civil War and the Time War.

When Davros returned in Series 4, I was disappointed that Terry Molloy didn't reprise the role. I hoped he would because he played the role more times than the other three actors did. He'll be returning in Series 8 and it'll definitely be Julian Bleach reprising the role a second time.

No, he didn't return. Maybe they were trying to pull the wool over our eyes,but nah. Davros died on board the Crucible, right in front of the Doctor.

TheBobBrom Well, South Park is a comedy cartoon, they dont need logic. Comics have so many continuities, they really don't always end up consistent. Tennant would probably have tried to save Davros, but you hear am explosion and hear him scream, as a slightly shaken Tennant looks on. I still cannot believe you compared Doctor Who to South Park.

I can’t find the clip from immediately after this, but it’s one of my favourite moments in the series. Like, we’ve had a whole season of this Doctor being a bumbling clown, and even here he’s hamming it up a bit, but when Davros realises he’s beaten the Doctor is suddenly ice cold, and it really hammers home what a calculating chess master this Doctor really is. “You tricked me!” “No Davros. You tricked yourself.”

Michael Wisher defined the part and set the standard for those who followed. Terry Molloy was good but chewed the scenery rather more, especially in this scene actually.

When I first saw Julian Bleach I backed across the couch... just like all those kids must have done in 1964 the first time they saw a Dalek. Terrifyingly good tribute to the late Mr. Wisher. Don't forget David Gooderson did the best he could in Michael Wisher's mask (literally!).

Matt Maloney Oh I don't know! I quite liked the way he delivered the lines "I think I am quite capable of handling the tek-nolo-jehhh" and the way he breathlessly says "aaaaand … with that power at my disposal". He then, deliberately but for good reason, falls into an Adolf Hitler canter. I think that's good. And of course there's "NOW YOU BEGIN TO FEARRRRR" :-)
@MALONEYCAMFIELD10 жыл бұрын
whophd It's called "camping it up". But then he is playing against Sylvester McCoy, who is often regarded as the most camp and least popular Doctor ever, so perhaps we shouldn't blame Molloy when camp had become the order of the day.
@MichaelJW729 жыл бұрын
McCoy was campy his 1st season. He became much more dangerous in seasons 2 and 3. Unfortunately for both it was a time where the BBC was basically looking to run the show off the air. Just my opinion, but I always thought Colin Baker was the least popular of the Doctors of the original series.

Considering Terry Molloy’s appearance is really an extended cameo, he literally waves a torch across a piece of Perspex, his costume is a mask, a bin liner and some wires obviously with a Dalek base and bespoke top. However he is completely compelling in his delivery and although Michael Wisher is considered the first and best I have to say I’m in the Molloy fan club. As from Revelation we have a scheming sinister and dangerous genius. Revelation is a great story with a convenient resolution. Revelation and Remembrance are Davros at his best. The body language between Colin and Terry is spot on when they finally meet and when 6 denies being the Doctor the pent up fury and frustration Terry portrays is utterly real. We also have the fabulous moment when 6 goes to shake Davros’ missing hand 😂. In Remembrance Davros actually looks like he’s not only won but is also holding all the trump cards, he has Daleks totally obedient to him, the Earth and the Doctor have no defences whatsoever and Davros has weapons on the Mothership “capable of cracking open this planet like an egg.” It’s the fact that the Doctor always wins that turns the tables, rather than just opening fire with the Mothership weapons he decides instead to try to humiliate the Doctor and use his shiny new untested toy thus snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
