I’ll never forget driving one of these when they first came out back in the early 90’s. My girls dad was a finance manager for the local Dodge dealership and brought one home one weekend. He let us take it out that Saturday for the day. I carved up the Tail of the Dragon or US HWY 129 since I live 20 mins from it and drove the piss out of that car all day and most of the night. The difference between the 91-93 and 94-96 engine is the 20hp they added. The 91-93 engine has a boost control solenoid with a plug in it limiting the boost to 9lbs giving it 300hp. All they did for the 94-96 engine was remove the plug and the boost went from 9lbs to 12lbs boost. That gives the engine the extra 20hp making it 320hp total. This was planned from the beginning. I have white 1991 currently and it was seen in Regular Car Reviews. And it wasn't fragile.

I have a 92 just like yours. It's actually thanks to that video I knew about that free boost mod. He deffinitely had preconceived bias going into that video though. Are they difficult to work on? The Dodge Stealth (in 1991 at its release) was (in my honest opinion) the most bad ass car on the market! The tech: AWD, AWS, Twin Turbo, Twin intercoolers, DOHC 24valve, (twin cam, 4 valve heads), cockpit adjustable suspension, cockpit adjustable EXHAUST (Sport/Tour), ABS, full time limited slip (viscous coupling), and the list goes on and on. My girlfriend and a bicycle and our suitcases were in the car. It would have gone quicker on a nice day. It accelerated hard until I shifted into 3rd gear. The car did not feel cross winds. To the two guys that did this review: I agree with 99% of what you guys said...and these cars are an incredibly good investment as prices are climbing (almost daily) on them. One thing you got wrong was the boost levels: Factory (bone stock) *peak boost* is: *9psi* for the 1991-1993 (first gen) models (which is what you have here in this video). Therefore, the 1991-1993 Stealth TT and 91-93 VR-4's had 300hp stock. The 1994-1996 Stealth R/T Turbo and 94-99 VR-4 (which had the 6 speed transmission) got a peak boost of 12psi. (which was a 20hp increase....i.e. 320hp). One other point to note: I have a poster up on my wall (factory advertisement from Dodge back in 1991) which showed the factory 0-60 on these cars was 0-60 in 4.9 seconds! That may not seem fast by today's standards...but back in 1991 that was MOVING!

Just watching the intro, never press the brake pedal if you are going "a bit quick" past a police officer. Assuming you aren't being followed closely by someone else, just drop down a gear, and pull the hand-brake on slowly to decrease speed without bringing the brake lights on. If you brake, the police know that you know you were going too fast. Also reduces the amount of "nose down" you get too, because the front brakes don't get involved.

@turbo_brian2 жыл бұрын
There's a lot of errors in this video. For example the early cars rated at 300 hp ran around 9 psi. I'm not aware of anyone who recommends unplugging the boost control solenoid, however there is a restrictor in one of the ports on the boost control solenoid which is often removed. This increases boost to 12 psi which is what the later model cars had, and thus produces the rated 320 hp of those model years more or less. Additionally, the touring setting on the suspension defaults to sport when certain driving conditions are met, for example heavy braking. So the amount the nose dives under heavy braking won't change between sport and touring.

Thanks for the video; loved it! Question for those familiar with stealths: I'm close to buying one but I need a bit of advice. 93 rt twin turbo with 182xxx KMs (I live in Ontario, Canada). It starts and runs but not perfectly at the moment. What happened was the owner is a customer of a mechanic and stored the car at a mechanic's garage. Over the winter some mice got into the engine and chewed up some wires. Car still runs and drives but not terribly smooth given the wires being chewed. Mechanic says it ran perfectly before the mice got in. Owner bought it previously for $3500 and is looking to get $2000 for it currently. Given the chewed wire situation, even though $2000 is quite cheap, is this even fixable or is it going to be a nightmare? If it didn't start/run I wouldn't even consider it but I trust this mechanic that it ran perfectly before (again not the mechanic's car, he's just storing it outside for the car's owner). Any advice is much appreciated!
@gordthor53512 жыл бұрын
dan If someone can see the chewed wires, they can repair the color coded wires. I suspect a different problem. I have an almost mint 92 R/T TT and after sitting in my garage over the winter it started, but wasn't drivable due to ECU failure. These cars have 3 computer units (ECU, climate control and electronic controlled suspension) and all of them had leaky capacitors. Electronics is a hobby of mine so I was able to repair the failed ECU and failed climate control with higher quality components to better than new condition. I rebuilt the ECS module before it failed and I caught it in time before the leaky caps corroded the circuit board. My point is that you should expect to address the bad capacitor issue in these cars. If it is done before the corrosive electrolyte damages the PCB or other components it's much less time consuming. The ECU was $1600 several years ago, but it's a relatively easy fix (even if a person only knows how to desolder and solder electronics components) if it is done before the PCB gets damaged. If the computer fails you will need someone competent enough to repair the PCB and make sure all of the corrosive electrolitic fluid is cleaned off the board to prevent future problems (corrosion). Considering that Stealths have gone up in price lately, I would say that a $2000 R/T TT would likely be a nightmare. Maybe not, but very likely.

@@keithharrison3636 It's a FWD architecture with RWD 'tacked on', ie a transverse-mounted engine with a transaxle (transmission and differential combined). What do you "unplug" to get more boost and more horse power??? Thanks
@alexdumay6917 Жыл бұрын
there is a boost control solenoid on the firewall that has 2 rubber hoses going into it. pull the solenoid out and in one of the nipples you will notice 1 of them looks more restricted. thats a little plug that you can remove with a pick. hook back up and then have fun!

I know exactly where your "secret" road is - that is the Fraser River you see in the background. You guys must be Langley dudes. I have a 93 Twin Turbo and have driven it down that exact road many times.

So is the NSXs, 300zx, supra, GTR, etc. Honestly in my opinion these are easier to do alot of major engine work then all of those.
@minibikemadman3 жыл бұрын
@@blackmount1 i think Supra's and nsx's are easier than a 300zx or one of these or a r34. Im sure there are tricks and trick tools but even spark plug changes are very tough on the 3000gts..even the na's.

I'd hit 150 mph 3rd gear hit 175 no problem in 2002 with the 96 rt TT had a white one with red interior. Nothing matched it's go back than love it so much wish I had it still So many cop chases and loosing them .. grade A getaway car. Alot of power for the novice driver with no real life driving skill. I ate everything I don't care what it was even Porsches muscle cars you name it'll put it to sleep in seconds well with a real driver that is with real experience

@RoadsUntraveled3 жыл бұрын
Haha well that depends on the province and how bored the cops are. In BC if you are driving 40 km/h over the speed limit you can get impounded whereas in Ontario it's 50 km/h. Usually the farther away from a city you go the less chance you will have an issue however it can still happen. Definitely no Autobahn :-P
