I’m a little disappointed that a public facing career seems to only have one mode. And it’s that of behaviour policing/an invasive need of the know how about the artist by fans (entitlement, even) heightened deification of the idol that turns to straight dehumanization and the spectacle of shame being treated like a past time. I get it’s motivations: there is bitterness, envy and class disparity that fuels our justifications of this behaviour. (She’s rich and famous, this is the price to pay for her. Let me, the working class fan, have this since I’m contributing to her success) schadenfreude. I don’t believe there should be such demoralizing transactions in order to achieve success in your field. If she were to be just a producer then the same problems will still exist for the next wannabe talent. Now, with doja, I don’t know what’s in her head. It feels mostly intentional and a public cry of ‘I want to lose followers, I don’t like the artifice of fame, but I still should be compensated for my hard work.’ Fame and wealth is conflated now so it does spell out some outrage for fans and makes her out as a hypocrite for living lux and denouncing fame and parasocjal interactions. Maybe she is aware that The more successful you become the more detached you become to the lower class. animosity grows from that and you inevitably face some backlash, even artificial drama will be created to pull you back down. I hate billionaires, I hate wealth hoarders, and I hate all bloated industries. I’m a big hater of wealth disparity and late stage capitalism. She’s not the biggest cash cow in the game, but she is steadily growing and has the potential to be. In my good faith I can believe she know this and is jumping ship now with what she’s got. You lose more empathy and lose touch the wealthier you are and with the more blind followers you’ve got. I do have a bad faith take on this that just suns her up as a jerk with musical talent, though 😂
