Brilliant! I wonder how many of us are now left wondering what it was that he did to incur such revenge, and what became of Monica after her father's death and poor Madame - one passionate kiss and....? Good old Blackwood - ' always leave them craving more', eh? Wonderful reading and effects throughout - thank you so much!

Mr. L’Estrange, you indubitably my preferred teller of tales in all the KZbin realm. You have such range, and your narration voice evokes shades of the warden from the film The Count of Montecristo
@EnCryptedHorror3 жыл бұрын
Ooh...which film version of Count of Monte Cristo? I must admit, the voice I'm always aiming for is Donald Pleasance and his voice over for The Spirit Of Dark & Lonely Water (kzbin.info/www/bejne/jn-zfoyIodusibs)

The version with Jim Caveziel, and you sound like Armond Dorleac (sp?) Played by Michael Wincott to my ears. Always loved his voice, no homo.

I really enjoyed this story (I read part 1 first obvs!). There’s something extremely creepy about dolls and puppets and I really like scary stories about them.

I don't know how, but that doll looks creepier the second time around. And just as the suspense hit its apex, every phone in the house went off with an amber alert. Thanks again for a job well done.

Who is Jasper Lestrange? Nothing available on wiki anyway. I'm infatuated. Your voice and spot in accents, the finesse of your delivery, as well as the quality of you stories has me thoroughly intrigued.

I have to say that I found the climax very underwhelming. But the story itself was fabulously creepy. Thank you!

Great writing from Blackwood, as ever, but I tend to agree that the story is all build-up. I wonder if, having settled on the doll as the minister of revenge, Blackwood struggled to overcome the chief narrative problem (it's actually quite easy for a full-size human to do battle with a little doll) and chose instead to focus on the ideas (colonial wrongdoing, responsibility, etc.), perhaps hoping we wouldn't notice... I couldn't resist a creepy doll story, however. Every channel needs one! 😃

Does anyone remember what television show made an episode out of this story. I can see scenes of it play out in my mind, but it's just not within my reach of remembering.... The end was different in that before the man died, he had sent a soldier doll to an man from India. He was, in turn, terrorized like the English man was.
@EnCryptedHorror2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I think someone else mentioned this a while back. It was filmed for Rod Serling's Night Gallery. You're right, they changed it a bit, but the doll was terrifying!

Brilliant, haunting narration... Blackwood was such a master of that creeping horror. However, his knowledge of foreign languages was lacking quite a bit evidently. It's Hindi, not Hindustani, and the term for revenge in Hindi is badla. 😊
@EnCryptedHorror2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for clearing that up. I always look into things I'm unsure of in the stories and I couldn't work out what Blackwood was getting at there 😄
