I was a Special Education teacher who tried to advocate for my students. I also suffer from mental illness and my district was fully aware. Just before I took disability retirement the pressure I was put under became unbearable. Even a master teacher sent to my class by the district to find out if "the teacher was the problem" returned to the district office with positive reports. The union not only failed to support me, but even falsified information to my attorney and dicouraged my onsite reps to avoid assisting me. The union worked in concert with the district to drive me out. I simply couldn't take it anymore. In my entire teaching career I was never treated as poorly as I was in those last two years at that school district. This is the first time I have said anything about this in any kind of public venue or forum and it is extremely difficult and painful. I wish I could have spoken with Delores Sanchez during that time.
