@@yayarea5109 Should be even more frustrating when you watch the Jets game the following week and realized they actually had a better gameplan against that defense then the 7-3 Ravens did. And that your old washed up QB Flacco had a much better game against that look. Not saying that to knock Jackson as he's great and that every QB in the league would have struggled with that protection and play calling. So more so just knocking your OC and line. As Jackson was sacked 4x compared to Flacco only 2x. And Flacco threw for like 290yds and had 2TD and 0INT. Jets OC was somehow at least smart enough to realize the middle of the field is wide open and that all it would take for a huge play is to throw a slant pass in that coverage and for the DB to miss the tackle or be behind the WR and you have a good shot at getting a 50+yd TD. Which is exactly what the Jets got in that game.

We ran this a lot in high school against teams that threw the ball. High school QBs don't have the composure to sit and take the hits, so it forced a lot of jump balls that our freakishly tall corners would snatch up no problem
@tylerbrantner40263 жыл бұрын
I bet that really causes problems for their running too, it’s hard for high school linemen to adapt to pressure when run blocking, and getting one guy in the backfield early can really mess everything up
@cmd312203 жыл бұрын
@@tylerbrantner4026 yes and no. The problem is that running a zero blitz opens you up like no tomorrow if they have a competent run blocking scheme. That extra Blitzer means nothing if the running back is already 5 yards up field. Our defense against running teams was mostly a soft form of a 4-6 where the outside 2 linebackers are replaced with safeties to take away option plays.
@mroverdose143 жыл бұрын
@@cmd31220 Your coach was smart. But the best thing to do was to attack the seams with TEs which are basically WRs in Highschool and would beat most blitzers with no over the top help. 4-6 vs a balance team would open you up to deep shots on post nasty. Any team that can throw and have a decent run game would cause you problems. You could run a "Heavy" cover 4 were safeties are 7 yards off the line but are your D-alley players (Rams run this and My high school I coached did the same). Safeties have to be smart, fast and can tackle. this defense works for undersized teams that are fast cause runners will be forced to the edges where you can rally and the two high safety look takes away post and seams pre snap and if the safeties do their jobs it's gone post snap. But of course inside power and inside trap neglects the safety help if they can out muscle you inside even while being out numbered....ie no Talent in the front seven
@cmd312203 жыл бұрын
@@mroverdose14 yeah we got beat a few times with those seams, but it's a pretty simple fix in the way we did it because the way we ran our zero blitzes was that the key read wasn't the interior linemen to drop back off the read of the center, but the outside linebackers against the furthest wide skill player in the box. Basically think a safeties responsibility in a more man style of quarters. If that player made any kind of vertical release, they peeled off and covered. Anything short is cleaned up by the DBs playing off coverage. Otherwise, they just blitzed as normal. But yeah, when we played truly balanced teams, we got roasted. Curse of the small school. That's what happened pretty much every year once we won our district. We go to the playoffs and get smacked by a real school.

@@CraftySouthpaw they just didn’t run any plays for quick throws. This was entirely on the coaches imo. The issue was that a lot of these were on third down. On third down and whatever, 7 yards won't cut it. Kurt Warner made a note about the Devonta Freeman Option play, where Freeman leans to the inside instead of immediately running outside. Given everything going on, that was actually above expectations. Behind coverage, right in the back of the endzone, it just dropped straight down at the end right around where Watkins should have been... etc. I mean, that was right in the area it needed to be in, and I don't know how much more catchable he could have made that. It wasn't as pretty or as perfect as a throw without pressure might have been, but Lamar had every right to be pissed after that play. Watkins just gave up for whatever reason and didn't make it happen. The Belichick version of this is called "check rain." The idea is based on the turn of the center. There are 2 defenders lined up in the A-gaps directly over the center. The center can only block one, so the blitz is determined by which defender he angles to block. That defender would then drop into pass coverage (typically is responsible for #3 inside/hot). Meanwhile, the other A-gap defender blitzes behindcenter's the back, leaving the center blocking no one. You can see this executed at the 7:50 mark by #43 and #70. Both players rush the A-gaps, the center turns toward #43 to block him, #43 makes the read and backs out into pass coverage, #70 hits the open backside A-gap.

he misses two points on these quick outs and slants. 1) this is the point of the defense. to force this. rushers starts getting their hands up creating a lot of tipped passes which everyone knows turns into picks. 2) dolphins defense was still blitzing but the DBs were playing a little more conservative by the time the ravens started calling these types of plays. dolphins ran this defense a lot last year which is why they forced so many turnovers. looked up their defensive highlights from last year. this is nothing new. they didn’t start running it again this season until 3 weeks ago against the bills (supposedly because it seemed the phins personnel couldn’t handle it until then). that’s why the defense is ranked so poorly this year

Broke his thumb in 2nd quarter when our best player kept helmet to ball tackling him. He ended up being a sick freak after high school and is serving 4 life sentences, but I still remember those days fondly.

I was screaming at my tv this entire game. For all the good things Greg Roman brings to this team, he is absolutely terrible when it comes to adjustments.

Couldn't you just run the ball, utilize some read options to set-up play action?

They tried to option off the contain rusher away from the pressure side and pretty much failed all but one time. Their RBs aren't dangerous enough to do it with.

@@BrettKollmann fair statement on the RBs LOL. I only say this because in most of these clips Lamar is just dropping back. Thanks for you reply, much respect for your content man 👊🏼

This video might be the best football analysis I have seen in 40 years of watching it on TV.

Field conditions definitely helped them out too by limiting Lamar's ability to move.

This could've been played on SoFis brand new turf and it wouldn't have made a lick of difference.

This tactic is really successful in football video games. A common meta scheme in NCAA 25 is to run every play from a double A gap set but sometimes drop a couple of linemen into coverage

And somehow Lamar got fooled by this…what a fraud (Oh wait did you really think a MVP candidate was a fraud?)

This is a defense that works well against big play offenses. Offenses that are content with getting 3-4 yards on every play and work on long sustained drives make minced meat of this defensive style.

I really like learning about defensive strategies. This vid is on par with the one breaking down the 6-1 scheme that the Pats used tear up the Rams.

At 5:59, that is exactly what the Bengals did to Lamar on nearly every 3rd and long / 4th down play. Its how the Bengals secured the win after the Burrow int with ADG dropping back and making a jumping pass deflection on fourth down.

Reminds me of the term “violence of action”. Be the most aggressive SOB and commit. And the offensive line can crumble under the pressure of simply knowing they are going to be blitzed.

in fighting video games, there's a saying that goes something like, "If your opponent keeps spamming a move, it's because you keep spamming a mistake."

XOR NFL Challenge from the mid-'80s: ran 4-4 Inside Charge every play. Pretty close to the old 46, which was at its height of popularity at the time. You'd occasionally give up a big one deep, but most of the time the offense was getting smothered.

I would actually really like to know the arithmetic on how the CPU/AI adjusts to plays. Are their play calls based on percentage and ratios based on down and distance? Or is the CPU randomly generating plays based on the teams actual playbook and how often that team actually ran certain plays during season? Or is it simply the CPU calling plays based on overall in position? Answers…I need answers

0:55 yeah, LSU vs Florida with the HB counter. a team that averaged 70 YPG on the ground got 321.

I love this style of defense....bring everyone to the line and either rush 7 guys or rush 1 and drop everyone in coverage. Disguise is key

This reminds of the time when I was a kid that I used “field goal block” in madden whenever my friend would do a run play because I would screen peak, but he never caught on. So I would just wait for him to select his play and then choose between a zone defense (if it was a pass) and the field goal block play. And yes I was that kid I would play him legitimately sometimes though, but I was like 7 years old so I only really cared about winning.

This is the reason I love football: it is a true TEAM sport. In this case, they were able to run the same blitz because their coverage is outstanding. The same can be said about the Cover 2 defense (Aaron Rodger’s weakness). If you can stop the run with 4 players, you can drop 7 into coverage, the QB is gonna have a rough day. Same here: if you can cover the receivers with minimal defense, then you can load up on the rush. At the same time, fake blitzes are fun because the QB is thinking “shit, gotta snap and throw fast” but then you have linebackers dropping back into coverage and eliminating pass lanes.

Can you make a video on why the packers defense has been so effective these last few weeks? They haven’t had any big personal improvements (actually quite the opposite w injuries) but have been shutting down premier offenses like Arizona and Kansas City.
