Erik Lerström well its one thing to understand a concept especially in film study after the fact but in real time its an entirely different animal. You cant just say oh ok they should’ve just done this this way and it wouldve worked because they’re playing a chess match against a chess master. You counter one thing and he has twelve answers that he can go to. Some OCs try to say im not gunna try and beat him at his own game were gunna stick to the game plan and itll work out. Some think theyll throw something else at him that he wouldn’t expect. Others play his game and he gets a chance to prove why he cant fit all his superbowl rings on one hand. Not to mention even if you draw up a perfect counter it could still go wrong because there are 22 people on that field that could effect the outcome of a play.

GamingMasters1 lol ikr. But mitch ran for 2 TDs and It’s tough to game plan against running QBs like that. his rush TDs weren't scripted runs; they were long pass plays that ended in a scramble which you can't just anticipate or account for fully in a game plan.
@GameingMasters15 жыл бұрын

"I wanna see QBs do what Rodgers did." Yeah...
@yuckfoutube1205 жыл бұрын
I mean, that wasn't an overly "holy shit Rodgers" throw like when he rolls right and throws off his back foot 45 yards down field or scrambles around in backfield for 2 minutes til a WR breaks loose. All he really did was audible Jones and Graham to stay in and block instead of run a route and then hit a wide open screen. His WR had inside leverage and he lead him perfectly, but that should be a throw (ie no safety, clean pocket, deep post with inside leverage) that all NFL QBs should be able to make, and the audible isn't anything special either, just max coverage. Really, the only aspect is that you gotta have Rodgers' balls to call that deep post, but as long as you've got the max protection you should have a clean pocket and a one on one
@CobaltGOAT5 жыл бұрын

@Zooko23NY5 жыл бұрын
Joe Lates true... It is a top 10 if not top 5 O-Line. But the point is that the max protect that you're talking about is what every NFLZ QB should audible into because he should be able to recognize the possibility of a Zero Blitz package. AND he should have the timing to lay in a 45 yard pass to his receiver. Leading a receiver into the middle is not a hard throw.

It is. Belichick picked up on the fact Goff relied heavily on Mcvay making the playcalling and pre-snap set up and simply relied on applying pressure as much as possible to get him rattled. Goff is a solid QB but it was painfully obvious in Super Bowl 53 that he was lost out there.

First, Brett is amazing. I know some people have mentioned it here, but I've legitimately learned more about football from watching these videos than I ever did playing or being a fan. Great work man. Two things I don't buy in this video. 1st Brett is talking about how Mahomes is a "generational talent" but fell prey to this coverage. He may be THAT good (I think he is too), but this was also his 7th start in the NFL. I don't care how skilled you are if you don't have the experience, I don't think it's fair to call someone out on messing something like this. I get that one of the points he is making is about how Palpatine... er... Belichick calls this vs young QBs for this exact reason, but I didn't feel talking about a guy's 7th game vs a guys' 16th start (and almost 2nd whole year in the league) is apples to apples. Which leads me to point number 2. I know Brett is a big Watson fan, as he should be, the dude is killer, but he talks about how NE didn't execute this coverage on him at all. Well... Both instances of Watson playing the Patriots occurred before even the Mahomes game, so It's viable that the Patriots didn't call it against him because they hadn't ironed it out. I could be wrong, but when the earliest example in the video is 6 weeks after the most recent game Watson has played vs the Patriots, I'm not sure it's accurate to try and pump Watson's stock up more.

One thing I noticed is protecting with a RB in the backfield is huge. He can pick up a free blitzer off the edge, so when the other rushers drop off, the offense has enough bodies to handle it. Also, if I had a rushing QB like Lamar, Watson, Trubisky etc. I would say bring it on. Rush your extra guy, and I'll let my quarterback run the other way with receivers blocking ahead.

It should be pointed out. This issue with getting into the right call for this play (by that I mean a max protect) is it's impossible to know what play it will come on before they show it at the line. The only tip off that the Pats might run a zero blitz is if they take their DTs off the field, but even then you can't know for sure. They have run the zero blitz with DTs in the middle at times. To be in the position to have that max protect option you need to limit your play selection and personnel so that you can run it. That isn't ideal.
