@@StompboxBreakdown What I appreciate about your style is that you demo the pedals without trying to emulate the exact sound of famous bands and without playing slightly modified covers to avoid KZbin's copyright filters. You do it your own way, you show what every knob does, and it's a much more authentic experience which matches how the average guitarist approaches new gear. Whenever I watch Andy Timmons or the Reverb/Sweetwater guys, it feels more unnatural and more like a sales pitch because I know that's not how I would approach the pedal.

Thank you, I really appreciate that. Yeah, I try to stay away from straight-up covers. Partially for the copyright reason, but also, if I used a Uni-Vibe pedal to do a cover of Pink Floyd's "Breathe", I'd bet half the comments would be pointing out that it didn't sound exactly like the album, tone-wise or talent-wise. So when I make something up, nobody can say what I played wrong :) I've learned through running this channel that people really don't care if I'm laying down alternate-picking 64th notes and doing 100mph fretboard runs. They just want to know what the pedal sounds like, so I try to cook up something that lets the pedal show off what it's good at. I also think there's a huge difference between the at-home messing-with-a-pedal experience and the "trying to get this thing to fit into the band mix right" experience, and I think that comes across. The politics of internet guitar pedal demos is fascinating and weird. I'm kind of hoping I can keep this channel growing the way it is while still featuring 90's stuff that only shows up at yard sales. Really hoping to be able to get that ART SGX2000 demo up before the end of the summer.

@@StompboxBreakdown I guess it's much harder to grow "organically", without receiving money and review units from pedal manufacturers. And I guess it's the pedal manufacturers themselves that demand for certain covers to get featured, as there's a huge market for "I want to get that tone from that song by a famous band" content. But yeah, I enjoy watching your videos. I presume it's a pretty expensive hobby, you must have spent a lot of money on cameras, editing hardware and software. There's also a lot of work that you put into editing. And I respect the fact that you maintain a quality standard as if millions of people are watching, even if your stats aren't there yet. Hope you'll keep it up and I hope you'll keep on having fun doing it. Because once it starts to feel like work, the passion gradually fades and you'll begin to re-evaluate your priorities on a more pragmatic cost-benefit basis. But I'll stick around for as long as this lasts... for no other reason other than the fact that I'm a nerd and enjoy listening to fellow nerds who can teach me stuff I don't have time to research myself 🤪

As a big Green Day fan, I've wanted one of these for a while, but the used price tag kept me away. Then I heard the FOD is the same circuit, so I grabbed one of those. Love it. As you point out in another comment, the FOD has a 3-way toggle for flat/hump/scoop tone tailoring which the Dookie does not. But the FOD does have the same trim pots (including the two mystery pots). And yeah, "opaque overrides." Nice. Great video, man!

That’s a great price for what will no doubt be a very valuable collectors item. I got mine for super cheap a few years ago from an eBay action. Someone listing a bunch of pedals with this one in the mix, priced the same as the rest. Welcome to the club!!!

I have this pedal too. It's great. I use it along with the Friedman BE-OD Deluxe pedal and the Revv G3. It's always good to have that Marshall esque tone to step on to jam some Green Day stuff. Great video.

Call me crazy, but there is certainly the basis of a perfect Van Halen brown sound in this pedal. It makes sense considering it’s based on a Marshall, but it sounds closer than the 5150 pedal does.

I've got the original version, the one you have. I love this pedal. It might be great for power chords riffs as you pointed out, but I think the Pete voicing is great for 70s AC/DC, Rush and Joe Walsh type tones, with the gain at a moderate setting. The Meat voicing has more gain, more hair more buzz, great for 80s Iron Maiden types of tones.

DEFINITELY. When I was playing around with it with a 2x12 attached to my amp, there were settings that made me literally drop my jaw. Like, feel-it-in-your-chest kind of stuff that made it feel like everything was coming together. I'd definitely love to see more "amp evolution" type pedals, and Alex Lifeson would be a great example of someone with a 70's sound, an 80's/90's sound, and a contemporary sound. That'd be a really interesting project for an amp-in-a-box right there. They could go all-in and make it in the shape of a washing machine.

The Fender Pugilist has an A-B blend knob. Also a switch for either blend or series. In blend mode it’s slightly noisy. ……fyi

Sounds like it could be just a great overdrive without trying to sound like anything. It could be great going into an amp threatening to overdrive on it's own a bit. For the first time I think I'd be interested in this pedal, but at $200 for the cheapest one, no thanks. Thanks for covering it. Nice job.

@@StompboxBreakdown I just saw a comparison to the MXR FOD. Almost identical except the mid switches don't seem to have an identical setting. The FOD gives scoop, flat and boost but the scoop and flat don't seem the same on the two pedals. Two super nice pedals here, but even forgetting about the price, the FOD is a perfectly suitable substitute, and I seriously doubt you'd be missing anything. Keep up the great work.

Thanks so much! I'm actually just using the built-in drum tracks from Logic. Probably something from the Punk Rock or Hard Rock catalogs. I actually purchased EZ Drummer 3 but I've had a hard time getting it to work the way I want it to. The drummers from Logic (and probably also Garage Band) plus a good channel strip plugin (I like the SSL Native Channel Strip 2) really makes them come alive.

You’re comparing apples to oranges. This isn’t a simple OD pedal. It’s a very complex circuit that makes for a versatile distortion pedal that will get you in the ballpark of a cranked, modded Marshall Super Lead. As much as I love Tubescreamers, they don’t do that.
