I don’t want to sound like a grammar nazi or anything, but it think it is for the better if we help each other… you say that the Doo has some solos of his own. You would use it in this way: it is the Doo’s solo, if you wanted to use the ‘s, but in this context it is redundant. And i know the reply to this comment would be the following: Shut up bitch, or something else 😆

So, to "break down" what he does is he: 1.- listens 2.- Understands the main chord progression which repeats 3.- He places the chord progression on a loop 4.- Finds the main melody (and memorizes it which is rather hard) 5.- Plays the melody and bridges inbetween through improvisational solos in the key of the song. So to do what he does, which is quite hard, especially in real time, you have to train your ear in relative pitch (to transcribe what he listens to), then either learn scales or have a great sense of the fretboard with the key "in your mind," and then obviously have the technical chops to do all of the guitar techniques he uses (legato, sweeping, alternate picking, etc..) plus his speed. Thankfully he mostly gets asked pop songs or simple rock songs which generally stay within a chord progression and time signature. He KNOWS other more difficult stuff from bands like Dream Theater but I don't think I've seen him transcribe something of that complexity in real time yet. Transcribing in real time something like dance of eternity would be absolute madness.

Just in case you're still reading comments on older videos... I'm a guitarist myself since 23 years (just as the comment under this one. Haha!) and I'm very passionate. So here's a little explanation of what's going on: The Dooo has learned music theory and the orientation on the fretboard very well. Once you're able to identify intervals by ear, you can project them on the fretboard in various ways. Do that long enough and you can "instantly" play what's in your head. Unless it's not too hard/fast. Simple melodies aren't that hard to do spontaneously when you practised what I just told. What the Dooo does when he throws in all the shred in between, is playing licks and/or patterns he already knows. All that combined is called "improvising". And yes, he is INSANELY GOOD at it! So it's actually not magic. I can do it myself. But certainly not THAT fast! ;)

1:21 according to the caption of that vid, he doesn’t actually have perfect pitch. It’s just a highly trained relative pitch. And on a side note, “perfect pitch” is not a skill, it’s a god given talent that you either have or not, only with training you can make it show itself, and improve it to make it faster and stronger. People with perfect pitch just have a much easier time learning and using relative pitch, because they don’t need interval training.

@adambainbridge45392 жыл бұрын
Yeah, anyone can play like he can it’s just an incredible amount of dedication of practice. He doesn’t have perfect pitch which is usually a rare trait instead he has developed relative pitch which just takes practice and knowledge of music theory to get good at

i remember the dooo had made a video explaining his "perfect pitch" basically, he has played so many different songs he just remembers common chord progressions, especially in pop songs so he's just built differently

Same concept as "Van Halen". "Photographic Ear". The Dooo has actually had some music theory. Combine that with "Savant Talent" and his father plays guitar and you have "Genius"! "Eddie Van Halen" never had a music lesson and couldn't read a note of sheet music. The similarities are stark!
