How wonderful to stumble across this movie on KZbin.... it brings back many happy memories as I often used to watch Edgar Wallace films with my dear old Nan back in the late 1960's/early 1970's when they were aired regularly over here in The UK...

This was really good and Leslie Banks seems to have revised a character he played back in 1933 in "The Most Dangerous Game". Interesting coincidence, the movie "The Most Dangerous Game" was produced and directed by the team that did the movie "King Kong" made the same year, in the same studio with the same special effects artists who created Kong. The coincidence is that this film "The Door with the 7 Locks" was written by Edgar Wallace who also wrote the original story of King Kong.

A delightful film with some comedy and the sweet innocent but sudden unusual partnership and relationship setting the mood where the one off a few medium shot scenes encapsulates the viewer and ending it in a close-up shot while other characters end in medium shot. The murder mystery plot has many layers which can be a little difficult to follow but all comes together eventually. The film has bright lightness but shifts more towards medium dark to dark scenes with shadows created on characters faces and interiors which creates the sinister mood. Overall, the movie emphasizes the sweet innocent relationship between the characters which blossoms throughout the ups and downs of the melodrama where emotions are heightened during exciting events leading up to a fairytale victory.

Someone with the name of XyzXyz wrote a really nasty note that the title and description state 1940, "where the hack" did I get 1962? Well, I do state that the film was shot in 1940, and I just noted an error in the description that mentioned the year 1962,. My entry was made about a year ago. Thankfully it has been corrected.

Yo, Cult Cinema classics. This is not the 1962 version of Edgar Wallace's Story. This is the 1940 British version. And yet, this film only exists because the British Board of Censors lifted a ban on Supernatural and horror films produced in England back in the middle 1930s. And one more thing, Wallace was known to be a prolific writer in his lifetime. He had pinned various serialized short stories loosely based on his experience as a Daily Mail journalist assigned to Africa. He also wrote a cornucopia of crime novels and detective serials. Although Wallace died under mysterious circumstances in 1932 at only 56, he is well known today for penning the original screenplay for King Kong. However, Wallace had initially titled his script, The Beast. (☉‿☉✿)

The 'mumbles' at 9:40 is 'George Raft pyjamas'. There are also some huge errors based on the writer of the subtitles being American (10 buck - far too much then - instead of 10 BOB at 7:31 - favor instead of favour) and obviously being young hadn't heard of George Raft or Lucretia Borgia.For a British film these errors are annoying

Wow, they really had a bad opinion of marriage. He said a woman should be caged and then shot at 20. In a lot of those B/W movies, the women are very bossy and high maintenance. Maybe that’s the way those women were in Europe in those days? But it wasn’t the women in my small town, nor the surrounding areas.
@fluffyfour Жыл бұрын
They just put women into stereotypical boxes in those days. Everything was made and written by men. You had the young, pretty, love interest, the elderly (over 35) straightlaced and maybe slightly batty spinster, the battleaxe, or the concerned mother. That was about it

If you're someone who watches a lot of these old movies, and maybe old TV shows, you might want to invest, maybe $100 in a wireless speaker. It hooks up to your phone, just go into settings, it's easy, and you'll be set! I have a Bose, but I'm sure there's less expensive ones out there. We play political channels on our phone as we drive, and that allows us to hear over road noise too.

This is an odd movie. The Spanish doctor says that he fled the rebels, but he is obviously a Franquiste and Franco was the rebel against the Spanish Republican government. Were the writers that ignorant of history? Then there are silly fights and a style that harkens back to silent film days.

Aw, yeah. It's all Franco's fault. The so called "republicans" (communists) in Spain did not eliminate innocent people. Right?
