Buckle up, it's gonna be a bumpy ride. Jim just pulls you into the fragile madness, so great. Thanks for playing this, L33. It is so worth the trip that was The Doors, such wonderful musicians. Loved your reaction, L33, it was perfect. RIP Jim. Blessings all.

Saw The Doors at The Roxy for $5.99 in L.A. It was AMAZING! Jim Morrison did a poem but it wasn't this. The concert was awesome and lasted for 4 hours. And I became friends with Ray Manzarek the keyboardist. We were friend up to his death.

For those unfamliar, the Felt Forum was tucked in next to the larger venue, Madison Square Garden. It went through name changes over the years. I think it is still there.

The original concept for the doors album "Waiting for the Sun" was to have "Celebration of the Lizard" on the complete side of side two. Their record label would not have it. But, "Not to touch the Earth" was used and some of the poem was printed on the cover.
@lilaelsi576623 сағат бұрын
They simply weren’t satisfied with the results of the studio recording. It wasn’t possible to achieve the same mood as during the concerts. So, they decided to give up the idea and use only “Not To Touch The Earth” part. In the latter bonus editions of the album, the unfinished version complete suite was included.

Wow , Shit !! , that still sounds awesome, loved it Bigtime back in my teenage years in the 70s! Haven't heard it for decades, but seriously that's probably definitely the greatest ever live recording of any band ? , tell me that I'm wrong! What poetry, what a voice, what a Band, unbelievable energy and passion, what a timeless experience it still Is!! I've still got the original vinyl, might have to put it under the mattress on my bed for some inspired dreams!!.... Great reaction Lee !!.....

If you enjoyed this, and I know you did, you'll need to listen to the "Ghost Song" song the the posthumous Doors album (basically the remaining Doors playing over Jim reciting poems he wrote) 'An American Prayer'. It's a short song but very well put together.

I consider Ray Manzarek, Rick Wakeman, & John Paul Jones as the best keyboardists in music History.Jim Morrison was a Shaman or considered himself "a Shaman" and the members of the band were instruments of his shamanic ways of expressing truths in songs and acts on stage which were ritualistic, many times Jim Morrison and the members of his band were naked on stage performing these ritual rock operas or music scenes that they practice from a vision or dream Jim experienced from a Coke or LSD trip! Most bands from the 60's and 70's wrote music and lyrics out of LSD or Coke or Mushroom trips!!!! lol Good reaction

Ray is in that top 5 greatest rock keys easy… a few were more adept at mastery of playing complex structures. But ray,’s ability to arrange, bridge, build, release, create hooks, he may have been the best if that’s the criteria. Certainly the best at improv and originality…. Funny thing though, he couldn’t write songs for crap & he couldn’t sing. All masters have flaws.

From that same disc set, I would LOVE for you to play Magie M'Gill! It's a laid-back blues with a grove that will play over and over in your head for the rest of the day, and you won't get tired of it. - BUT - Caution is advised: It's highly addictive! You'll be playing it over and over and over... Sit back, relax, just listen and forget about the world. John Sebastian on harmonica. To help set the mood, play the 30 second or so track before it where the band is kinda slipping subtly into the song. This is nothing like the track from the Morrison Hotel album.

"You can tell that Jim Morrison was "an old soul", though he died 'young" in "this life". Morrison was a poet and a storyteller, I have his book of poems. "Shadows of the trees, witnessing the wild breeze" is my favorite lyric form "Not to touch the earth". I was wondering why you and many other "youtubers" rarely react or listen to the doors song >"Not to touch the earth" (not this live one) song, it is my top favorite, along with "The Soft Parade" song. I hope you will react and listen to "Not to touch the earth" song from the 'Waiting for the sun" album, separate from this one that is in this live version of "The Celebration of the lizard", as Jim's vocals and Robbie's guitar work is sooooo good!!.

Hey brother, you've got to react to their "American Prayer" album, the remaining Doors put it together after Jim's death, using some live bits from what was played here in this vid. They used a lot of Jim's spoken word recordings and poems to sort of piece together the story of Jim's life
@janvanimpe837723 сағат бұрын
Jan Van Impe 4 remarks !! 1) so happy you took this version and not the one on "absolutely live" 2)to understand a little bit more about the mind of Jim and this song, you should buy and read his poetry book called "The Lords and the new creatures" the first part (the lords) is philosophical but understandable. the second part (the new creatures) is.... well,he really is trying to create a new world, mixed with mythology, but it's hard to understand for simple minds(like me) 3)Morisson hotel is their 4th album. You forgot the 3th album "Waiting for the sun" !!!!!! 4)(like i said before, but i repeat) after jim died, Ray,Robby and John made 3 albums and especially one song is very long and beautiful: "ships w/sails"
@kelvinkloud27 минут бұрын
Check out Joseph Campbell. Power of mythology. Jim read him a lot. Campbell lived a long time after Jim and did some really good interviews in the early 2000s. They are on KZbin. He was a professor and explained things very well. He was in Jim’s wheelhouse in re to using symbolism and myth for greater truths. Worth your time. It will then make Jim’s stuff more understandable. Also will explain Blake well who Jim admired a lot.

@kelvinkloud15 минут бұрын
In music, the closest is probably reed, iggy pop, bowie, p smith or Rollins. I may be missing a few others in punk/new wave/rap… but even then, none were as steeped in ancient western epic ode myth like morrison. He inserted the ancient w/ the vanguard like no one ever has in rock. He had misses and was inconsistent. But w/ ambition mission plan he had it was going to happen. This was A game, it not approachable for many. Less so than the end, wtmo or even soft parade. It’s dark and abstract, yet still holds out a way out. Morrison was t as nihilistic as some claim imo. But he didn’t feign from staring down darkness. It’s visceral at times here.

Bullseye… I think that power haunted him some… gifted and charismatic. Also he explored the spiritual realm and that can be heavy and even dangerous. Shame we didn’t get to see his 2nd chapt post paris. Continuation in music but new work in film screenplays and collaborative direction. He had the goods for it. Acting too.

not my fave stuff of the doors, not this, not horse latitudes, no messages here, no deeper meaning. this ain't the doors best stuff for everyone. I have heard all their material over and again for decades and I don't go back to this on purpose. gimme LA Woman or many other doors tracks and I am happy.
@kelvinkloud10 минут бұрын
There is meaning here. But I concede it’s very abstract and layered in symbolism. He’s commenting on the western culture at the precipice. On the verge of a possible new Dawn but a painful birthing. It’s all here.

Why do no one react to Buffy st Marie? Is it because she is native American and you are all ashamed of the genocide commited against those people? Will someone please have the courage to react to "my country"(tis of thy people your dying), or "bury my heart at wounded knee". How stupid of me to even suggest such a thing.
@mojorider845520 сағат бұрын
hey brother, put the drug pipe down and chill, lol....and Canadian investigative reporting found out she's not Native American. But the rest of what you say is true, this country has a big wound that won't heal until we address the original sins: genocide and slavery
