Got the deluxe edition delivered on Saturday and it sounds amazing. I hope they go back and do one for Strange Days so I can get a full set

My guess is they won’t and/or don’t have any outtakes or session tapes. The band released 50th anniversaries of each album plus other archival releases stating in 2016 up til now. The opportunity was already there but we only got them for the last 3 albums.

@@BrendonSnyder they did a deluxe box set for every album other than Strange Days the first one for the Debut album didn't have any outtakes ut did have the Matrix show tracks but only the tracks from The Doors so I assume the strange days one would include the Matrix tracks from this album. It just looks weird on my shelf is all. 50th anniversary for The Doors, Waiting For The Sun, Soft Parade, Morrison Hotel and now LA Woman....it just bugs my OCD a bit!

I've had 2 different cover L.A. Woman albums. The first one was a hologram and depicted someone on a cross (can't remember if it was Jim). It was pulled off the market in a very short time frame. It may have been the same picture that is on the insert that you showed in the box set. Another great 6 CD set is the rare "Live at the Felt Forum" (the NYC marathon shows). Although not an official release, the recording quality is superb. Thanks for the great review of the new box set, L.A. Woman.

I have the 2-CD greatest hits compilation, but haven't gone any deeper than that on The Doors. I may have work them into my playlist today. Curious that it they kinda went on the cheap with the "book," plus didn't include the other discs and film that you noted. I agree that they could've gone bigger. But if all of those earlier editions are still available, the label may be hoping that fans will pick those up as well. It all boils down to the $. Nice job, Brendon.

Yeah I don’t think they wanted to duplicate the earlier releases. And the booklet of this one is the same as each one of the 50th anniversary boxset editions. It slides nicely into the vinyl holder so that is nice. If it had been a separate book, there would have had to have been a box making the package bigger and cost more. So I get it.

@Jared. There's also a 6-disc box set available called "A Collection". It contains all of their studio albums including Jim Morrison. Lot of music for a very decent price.

I'm happy with just the original studio albums. I'd be only interested in listening to that once, not enough to want to buy it. All of the original studio albums with JM are absolute essentials, I can't pick a favourite, all superb. Thank you, great and interesting review as always

I agree, it’s not something I will listen to often like I would one of their albums. But I still want it in the collection and to have access to it when it’s out of print. These don’t last too long.

The 40th anniversary remix of this album is fantastic! The remixes includes a microphone set up in the middle of the Doors workshop! The microphone in the middle of the Doors workshop was not used anywhere else!

Hi Brendon!! nice unboxing, i just completed early this year the studio discogrphy of the Doors w/Morrison on cd, i think they were part of the 40th reissues, so i'm ok with those pressings. The extras on the boxset looks good to me, but not seeing going back to them very often and being this the 50th anniversary a huge milestone, it should have some extras. cheers and be well

Since the doors released L.A. Woman in the 1970's and this year marks 51 years since the doors released their last album with Jim Morrison and long live the doors!!

The Doors released LA Woman in 1971….when the boxset came out last year it was the 50th anniversary. They did release another album with Jim in 1978 called American Prayer.

For me it was sort of the same thing. I don’t hear any difference between the 40th anniversary remaster and the new 50th anniversary remaster. It’s really all about the 2 hours of session material. It’s a fun listen and as diehard fans it’s enjoyable. I don’t see myself going back and listening to it all that often. I’ll probably pull out the 40th anniversary bonus disc more. But like you, I’m glad to have it in the collection.

Still have my original vinyl. Other Voices and Full Circle were pretty lightweight. America Prayer is kind of odd. I might actually be interested in buying this one.

I like exploring the “what if’s” from bands so the sessions discs from this box but also Other Voices and Full Circle I find very interesting.

@@BrendonSnyder well, I still have my Other Voices original vinyl because I actually like a lot of the music although I'm not crazy about the vocals. I especially like Ships With Sails and Tightrope Ride. Other Voices I hated and got rid of it. Then, thinking I might have been wrong, I bought it again and tried it. No, I still disliked it; I was actually disappointed because I WANTED to like it. I have American Prayer and like it. Here's a crazy vague Doors/Yes connection. Jon Anderson and Johnathan Elias put an album together (the word American is in it I think but I can't recall it exactly without looking at my computer list REQUIEM FOR THE AMERICAS?) and it used a snippet of American Prayer. How's that for an obtuse connection?😁 Personally speaking Strange Days, LA Woman and Morrison Hotel are my favorites depending on my mood. I get the biggest kick out of Strange Days though, it's so wonderfully bizarre. Have you ever heard Manzarek's NITE CITY group and album? It's somewhat Doorsish.

I have the DVD-A and 2013 Analogue Productions SACD. I can't imagine this release being as good sound wise.If only they could fix the 1st Doors album - the SACD was horrible.

I see behind you that the two post-Morrison Doors albums were reissued together as a two-fer, which makes me laugh. They're not important enough to receive separate releases I guess, while LA Woman and all the previous albums understandably get the box set treatment.

The two-fer release was the first time they were ever issued on CD. They had never been issued on cassette either. So I’m just happy they finally got an official release. Before this I had a Russian bootleg on CD.

I completely disagree. It was great to hear alternate versions with new instrumentation mixed in. And now 10 years later they are re-issuing the original versions. You just have to do your homework and know what you’re buying.

@@BrendonSnyder i hated those alt versions. bought them day they came out and was excited to hear. but every song just sounded wrong to my ears. couldn't get into them at all. I had the original CDs and the Complete Studios Box Set luckily so I was A-OK.

yeah, you want the DCC pressing. i'm here because i heard they used the plangeant process on this version so i'm trying to hear someone speak about the sound quality before considering a purchase, personally could care less about studio out takes. 10min in and haven't heard anything yet. guess i'll keep searching. but all the grateful dead stuff that's used plageant sounds flippin fantastic. edit: ok so i downloaded the 50th anniversary and did a shootout. the new mix sounds really good and different than the older mixes everything is crystal clear and sounds more detailed and crisp but it's like the bass disapeared!!? and i like bass. so i think if i was going to a dessert island and could only take one i'd go with the DCC. but either one is better than any of the other modern remasters i would say.

It bugs me that they mix media on many of these box sets. CD's with LP's. CD's with DVD, etc. I have a CD player but not a turntable, or a 5.1 sound system.

I almost purchased this but backed off when I realized it came with 3 CD's . I'm sorry but when I'm willing to spend this kind of money on a Vinyl set I expect my money to go towards Vinyl and not CD's . I don't understand why various artists do this . They could of knocked $15-$20 off this set by keeping the CD's out of it , or even better put the bonus tracks on another 2 or 3 records -vs- the CD's and I would of gladly paid .....stupid . I still listen to CD's but when I'm spending the cash on vinyl I expect Vinyl .. For example I recently purchased a Black Crowes "Shake Your Money Maker " box set that is very high quality , has 4 Vinyl records , a cloth patch , booklet and a poster for $75 ......with no CD'S !! I've listened to LA woman in completion at least 50 -100 times in my lifetime and own the first pressing along with the CD , I'll pass on this one as it's just a money grab .

Well…but that’s why they do it. They can charge more and get both vinyl and CD people to shell out for it. I hate it too. I don’t like having to pay for something I don’t want. But that’s how it is and I didn’t want to let the material go by without picking it up.
