Yes a true story: A friend and I were on a pilgrimage to Los Angeles for different reasons. We went to an amazing dive bar called Coach and Horse's which is no more. I ended up talking to a gentleman who said his father played tambourine on the Doors LA Woman sessions and helped produce it. BTW my friend was on a Doors pilgrimage to the Whysky A Go Go. I said you really should talk to my friend about this. That was a long conversation. We thought he was full of it later when we crashed out at the hostel behind Grafhmans Theater in Hollywood. The next day we are in my 1974 California Style retro V Dub and THAT guy honks at us on Sunset & la Brea. It's him!!! In a Darth Vader black 911 with the wing and all. He halls ass away. I believe his story to this day. His story was true. Thank you for your channel. So much.:

The Doors and Jim Morrison are my absolute favorite band and listening to their music is almost a holistic experience. I live in Los Angeles, and saw Robbie Krieger and his band perform @ the Whisky for Jim’s birthday last month. I’m not sure why, but their music resonates so profoundly within me. So much so, I plan on blasting My Eyes Have Seen You when I propose to my lovely girlfriend this year. All of that being said, I am happy AP was able to capture and present the music so beautifully and do it justice. Just Sub’d and I look forward to your videos!

Yes, especially when I consider the original copies I'd have to go through to even find a good one, it might cost many more times what this does. When I look at it in that context they seem more than reasonable. Certainly will hold their value if not skyrocket if they ever go out of print.

I couldn’t agree with you more. These Acoustic Sounds releases of the Doors albums are stunning. Never owned any of the Doors albums so I purchased all of the albums within the last two years. Some I like and some I prefer less but the SOUND… incredible. Goes back to the subject, does a person collect to sell later or do they purchase to enjoy. The later is the case for me. I will leave them to my son as my father left me with quite a few origin pressings of jazz albums dating back to the early 50’s. No regrets purchasing the Acoustic Sounds 45 RPM releases. The quality is definitely worth the money 💴

Thank Steve! You know now that I think of it, I hadn't really picked up much from AP in the last couple of years, beside the Verve/Impulse jazz series. I'm going to look deeper into their catalog because this kind of quality was rare several years ago. It seems getting almost everything under their own control and streamlined has really given QRP and AP the edge over anyone else I can think of. Thanks for your comments Steve!

100% Scott. This Doors reissue series from Acoustic Sounds is absolutely fantastic. Riders on the Storm on that double 45 is almost a spiritual experience. The only ones I have yet to get are Soft Parade and Morisson Hotel. Waiting for the Sun was my number 1 purchase last year. Magnificent.

This is one series where I definitely want to 'collect 'em all'

I absolutely love The Doors music. The only album of theirs I did not connect so well with is Soft Parade. It is a decent album but it seem to lack compare the others. They did get back on track with Morrison Hotel release. LA Woman was Jim's last gift to us before heading off to Paris. It is one of the great last album by a major artist although the surviving members did soldier on with two album releases. Oh just one not, to put Jim in a 1980s settings, just listen to the big hit by Simple Minds Don't You Forget About Me. Lead vocalist Jim Kerr sang that hit in very much the Morrison style while I am sure you head this song many times, give it another listen with my Morrison observation in mind. Had Morrison been around in the 1980s and did not abuse his voice he would have been perfect to record that song. ha ha

This popped up in my feed, and I was very happy to see that one of my favorite vinyl people did a review on this killer album. I alternate between Pink Floyd and The Doors as my favorite rock band of all time. If Jim Morrison didn't have such an untimely death and The Doors with Jim went on to make more music, it is very possible The Doors would be my favorite band of all time. I must concur with how terrific this version of the LA Woman album sounds. 😻 I was thrilled to hear that Doug Sax did his magic on the AP/QRP release. His The Mastering Lab also originally mastered the Pink Floyd The Wall album, my favorite rock album of all time. I have LA Woman in a number of versions, including the first pressing. This AP/QRP version smokes anything else I've heard. If it's any consolation, Mike Esposito of the In Groove and a big time fan of The Doors says the 45 rpm AP/QRP smokes anything else that has preceded it in sound quality. He says that The Doors is his favorite band. I have all of these AP/QRP 45 rpm versions of The Doors albums with Jim. The one that sounds the best in quality across the different albums to me is Morrison Hotel. 😻😻😻 LA Woman has just been released in an AP/QRP 33 1/3 rpm UHQR, so it remains to be seen how good that album is. As a huge fan of The Doors, I just had to have a 33 1/3 rpm version of LA Woman with the UHQR royal treatment. 🎤🎸🎹🥁

Hello, I'm so glad you found this older review. I notice there is a renewed activity with it. I was very impressed with this 45 and still am. So much so that while I immediately ordered the UHQR, I cancelled it the next day. I'd love to have it but just could not afford it. My friend Oz got two, and I'll get to shoot it out against the DCC, and if I must have it and it's sold out, he'll have his retail copy for me.
@audiophileman70472 ай бұрын
@@ThePressingMatters In Chad's announcement about this UHQR, he said that the 45 rpm version sounds a bit better than the inside tracks on the 33 1/3 rpm. That may not appeal to people who love Riders on the Storm, last song on the second side of the 33 1/3 rpm version. It's a matter of what's important to you and how much you like this band, and I definitely understand about budget. I like everything else that comes with a UHQR beyond the record itself. Sometimes I don't feel like flipping the record more than once. A UHQR release doesn't just give you a great record made to the highest standards; it's a celebration of the album. 😻

That's true, and I am a big fan of the series. I have nearly every one. I'm very curious to see the box quality, the jacket and to hear what Bernie did with it. I'll probably cave and get it if it's as good or better than the DCC.

Another great video Scott - thanks! I'm sure other people have said it but I would suggest buying the first two albums last. I have all of them - bought individually at a lot of expense (I'm in Ireland) last year. The first 2 albums - they sound amazing - don't get me wrong but Waiting for the Sun onward is probably the better ones. In my opinion Soft Parade and Morrison Hotel should be your next two. But look, they are all so nice in my opinion. Also I totally agree that $60 is a steal. I have paid closer to a hundred dollars for my copies as I'm based in Europe. If I was stateside I'd be spending a LOT more with Acoustic Sounds. At the moment I really want to get Pet Sounds and the Buddy Holly album - oh and a couple of Elvis ones - but the extra costs are just crazy. I'll probably wait to purchase in the future if I visit the US again. Anyway - great video thanks. Hope to see more Doors!

Back when I was 11 years old, in 1971, I bought Morrison Hotel for $1.99, along with Absolutely Live and The Soft parade, also 1.99 each. At Woolworths!! All of those albums had sold disappointingly, so cutouts were everywhere. Of course LA Woman was destined for a similar fate, but Jim died and back up the charts it went, peaking at # 9 and staying in print forever. Why can't an expensive audiophile edition simulate the original Elektra packaging?? With the rounded corners and see through plastic etc? Those 1.99 cutouts were fabulous sounding first pressings, and later I got an early pressing of imo their best, Strange Days. Can't afford these 45 versions. Still have several DCC editions on CD which are very good.

Great comment, Jack! I've often wondered why Analogue Productions didn't go all the way on this reissue and do the die cut see through cover and charge a bit more for it (certainly would be costly today.) The 45 edition's jacket IS a thing of beauty, though, much more impressive than I had hoped. Thanks so much for watching and commenting on this great music!
