Dan is so right about the storyline for Alexis. Of all the characters on the show, I think Alexis showed the most growth. I'm delighted that she will take time to build her career and eventually meet someone who's right for her in the life she's about to create for herself. It's interesting to realize that the trajectory for the characters changed in Dan's mind as he saw the storylines come to life and the influence the actors had on those characters.

@RewindMe I spent the entire show half-convinced Mutt would come back into Alexis’ life and they would grow together as characters - Ted felt to me like he was always going to be more mature than Alexis, whereas Mutt and Alexis seemed at similar stages in life and their main problem was communication, which was also a problem in Alexis’ and Ted’s relationship that was never really resolved (the locket episode really soured me on their relationship because Alexis was still lying to Ted and he just tolerated it!!!) Mutt was never a defined character and I guess that was sort of his purpose, to act as the character that enables Alexis’ growth and then disappears, but in my mind I think he and Alexis might cross paths again some day.

I love what Dan said about Alexa and the decision that he made for her not to get married. That was one of the things that I LOVED about the finale, because almost every bloody show ever ends with one or more of the female characters finding love, even when it really doesn't add anything to the story or the character or even ring true. (Case in point - and many will not agree with me - Peggy Olsen in Mad Men getting together with Stan. Really?! And Sex and the City - they all ended up with someone, and two of those someones were exes who should have stayed exes - I mean, couldn't Carrie stay single?! She completely regressed! There's a bazillion other examples, but I'm beginning to digress.) I loved that it was David who got married and stayed and not her. Thank you, Dan! (Honestly, I think it's kind of sexist that the female characters always "have" to find love - as though there's something wrong with a woman who doesn't.)

As heart broken as I was when ted and Alexis broke up, I believe it was the best thing for the characters development. We got to see how strong she had come from dating mega rich heirs who wouldn't send a private jet for her, to ted who would do anything for her but she didn't have the emotional skills to reciprocate that effort back to Ted. She them ended up knowing that letting him go was the best option for both of them and she has grown into a strong women who doesn't need any men to succeed (including having David to move to NY). I feel so proud of her character and grateful to the writers for giving us a feminist icon 😍😍😂😂
@Finnthefroggy4 жыл бұрын
Personally, I just didn't see Ted and Alexis ending up together. They were a sweet couple, and they both grew from the relationship, but I don't think either one of them was what the other needed in the end. Ted was still a little bit too unassertive. Alexis once said "He gives me so much and I have learned to take, as well.” While I think that Alexis became less of a taker, I still think that Ted was a little bit too willing to give up too much of himself. Patrick was always there to gently guide David in the right direction, and as his flaws became more apparent, David did the same for Patrick. They helped each other grow, and I'm not sure that Ted and Alexis were helping each other reach their full potential. I also think their interests were too incompatible. Some difference is good, but I feel like Ted would be better off with a girl would would enjoy a Galapagos adventure, and even if her career hadn't exploded, Alexis was clearly going to be sacrificing way too much to be there with him. I was proud of her for making the sacrifice in season 5 and agreeing to move with him, but I think if she had actually gone, she would have been miserable the entire time. While they could have attempted a long distance relationship, I think they both deserve to move on and find something better out there. Ted was her first healthy relationship, and he'll always have a special place in her heart, but Alexis is young, vibrant, and beautiful. She's still got plenty of time to have it all.

The ending for Alexis reminded me a bit of the one in La La Land where (spoiler alert) the couple does not end up together, but grew with and from each other and was truly happy for the other. It didn't rip my heart out like it did in La La Land, but you're left feeling good about how the couple had benefitted from their relationship.

One of the best things about this show is how accepting everyone in Schitts Creek is. They are just so loving and pure.
