The first act of the reign of King Aegon V Targaryen was going to be an important one. What to do with Brynden Rivers, Bloodraven, this dark hand of the king whom had shaped westeros from the shadows for decades. The issue Aegon had was Bloodraven while he did kill Aenys Blackfyre in a very dishonourable way, did after all remove another member of house blackfyre. The lords waited to see what kind of King, Aegon would become. And with that Bloodraven was sent to join the nights watch.

It's a calculated move. They sense a threat beyond the wall. So send the most effective two targaryns to Nights Watch to deal with it. It later becomes a blessing to Nights Watch and especially Bloodraven.
