What's really sad is that the Met Gala is actually for funding historical fashion preservation because the fashion arm of the Met has to get funds each year to keep going. It's relevant work that has historical and cultural importance, as well as celebrating an art form that we all engage with every day, ie. fashion. They've relied on the celebrity angle so people donate, but the problem is that it's become so about that that most people have no idea what it actually funds and many celebrities use it for less than great purposes. It's one of the reasons that Kim wearing the Monroe dress was extremely insulting both artistically and historically.

So many rappers killed in the music industry for decades, and gang/criminal activity. So many child stars and celebrities are destroyed by drug addiction, the crazy plastic surgery turning women into weirdos.. The other thing is the standards/quality of Hollywood and music is very low. Most singers these days mime their "live" concerts. then use twerking asses and softporn to get noticed. Nobody watches TV anymore. Movies are full of woke propaganda, The celebrities who are always talking about diversity and acceptance turn out to treat their own staff like tyrants, like Lizzo or Ellen. Many neurodivergent people don't understand the worship of anyone - celebrity, royalty, religious figures etc - it makes absolutely no sense, it's all pretend titles, costume and construct. So we do a lot of observing of human behaviour. I honestly think the celebrity backlash is due to the economic and sociopolitical environment, our loss of hope and fear of the future. If society was to recover it's equilibrium, the worship would be back as well. But that's just a personal opinion.

True, but my understanding is that it's generally not the celebrities themselves who pay the ticket price. They are invited by different fashion brands to display their designs. I think it's important to note that the Met Gala is a charity event. It didn't always involve celebrities, that is a fairly recent development. It's a highly publicized event and the optics around the timing were horrible, but it's not the most egregious example, in my opinion. It's just possibly one of the most mediatized. And while we direct most of our ire toward influencers/celebrities, we pay much less attention to the billionaires who do far greater damage (very few artists have that kind of wealth). The ones that can afford to keep a low profile (while maintaining the same standard of living).

Even as a kid, I thought it was ridiculous how that was a scandal. She stole, paid for the items, and went to treatment. Also, the shoplifting only became a thing after she refused Weinstein. They had that dirt on her and pushed it to the news to ruin her. Besides, it is well documented that kleptomania is a form of trying to feel in control. I don’t doubt she was already dealing with the toxic industry and acted out that way.

I think you really hit the nail on the head with the point about celebrities' private lives being overly exposed as a contribution to their downfall. What this made me think of though, is the Kpop industry and how that's defied the trend and continues to foster celebrity worship of its artists among the Western world (and the artists are quite literally called "idols" lol). This is all an aside but IMO, the Kpop industry shows what the American celebrity culture lacks. For one thing, it's very visible that being a Kpop idol requires hard work considering the physical demands of their choreography alone. That's one aspect of the profession that garners them admiration. In contrast, being an actor doesn't really have an immediate visual representation of the level of hard work it takes to do the job. Most effective though, is the sheer amount of extra content showing Kpop idols being normal people, both at work and outside of work. We get to see them learning dances and making mistakes, fooling around in the studio, getting nervous backstage before performances, along with seeing them just talking about random things with each other. We see them stay at AirBnB type places as a group, watching them cook, play board games, eating dinner, walking outside, having life talks... It really makes fans think, "they're like me after all."
@StateofKait7 күн бұрын

The fact that some women allowed it to happen is what shocked me more! When he said they" LET" him!? 😢😢 Lots of men think with their small head, we know that. Women pls take a stand! 🤔

My hope is that this attitude extends soon the political realm, and we started holding those people accountable.

There is problematic content creators on YT and other platforms but as a culture we are liking the new way of doing things better than the old. Hollywood is continuing to burn while YT creators rise in subscriber numbers, likes, and views. Celebrities are out-of-touch millionaire elitists whereas Jane/John Doe uploading content from their homes while their dog is barking, the phone is ringing, Mom shows up with overbaked cookies, and the new shirt you bought at Target has a stain on it, WE HEART IT! It is relatable in every way. I don't think we are going back to the way things were. We like it here. It's comfy, chill, and a kind of contentment one can't get from heavily edited programming for television.

Chris brown is coming to South Africa soon, which has resulted in a petition being signed, demanding his concert being cancelled. The women for change Instagram page posted the petition which has received signatures. Chris brown saw it, and replied to the post saying “I can’t wait to come❤️”. A disgusting creature that will probably never really pay for his violence and abuse and knows it

We need to remember it women weren’t the only victims revealed during Me Too- Bryan Singer abused young men. Then Terri Crews and Brandon Fraser both victims.

Absolutely, thanks for that correction

So did Kevin Spacey. And none of their victims saw justice. Singer was particularly vile.

'Imagine' was never a beautiful song. It is about dystopian mysery and the denial of individuality. As for blaming idols for idolising them, the responsibility lies in quiet cessation of the idoliser. Envy is an ugly thing. Nobody is to blame, just stop doing it. It is a nothing thing. As for Rikki Gervais, he's one of them and they hire him to show that they have self deprecating humour.

I'm 47 and have always hated celebrity culture. David Bowie, Daniel Day-Lewis, Olivia Newton-John and Judi Dench are/were celebrities. Kardashian, Swift, Drake and such are just mediocre puppets with minimal talent but teams of ppl who push their wagon.
