I mean bedrock hasn't changed ever since the pe era either but seeing cringe stuff all over ruins the experience. and recently if you get into the snapshots the gui is changed. it looks good tbh but bedrock is taking a step forward to become corporate. conclusion: with bedrock having a launcher in the ms store and mojang giving you bedrock for free while getting java is a sign. I'm sure youve also seen in javas launcher telling you to get the bedrock's launcher. I've also heard in the past and its visible in the versions that they will try to make them as alike as possible, 2 years ago, once bedrock caught up with javas version numbering in 1.16 and the fact they're getting closer. I'll be honest. When we didn't get worldgen for 1.17, I got it. Worldgen as pretty as 1.18 is not easy to code and breaking the update into two parts was probably the smartest decision in the long run. When we didn't get the Deep Dark for 1.18, it felt a little off, but I chose to wave it off - they may have had big plans for the biome (to their credit, they did - and it looks great). But some of the features cut from 1.19 have zero excuse, since it's honestly such a comparatively smaller update.

I would LOVE to be able to use those developer tools for making videos. Java Edition is the only option for recording because it has BASIC FEATURES like spectator mode (which is in the dev version), F3 debug screen (which is in the dev version), and many other quality of life things (that are also in the dev version)! As of October 2021, the Minecraft Marketplace had made $350 MILLION in revenue. Surely they can use some of that money to add a few more quality of life features. One argument is that the features would need a lot of polish to be in the main game. If that's the case, they could easily allow these features to be togglable in Minecraft Preview! I think that would be a great compromise, making Bedrock Edition way more popular among KZbin creators. My 5 year personal Realm is on Bedrock Edition and I can't count the amount of times I've said "I wish we could convert this to Java Edition." We've lost so many pets to a bug where if any mob can move across a chunk border, it will just despawn eventually. We can't convert the world without losing our inventories and entities, so we're stuck on the buggy version of the game. Even my famous skin is glitched! It's made in the built-in character creator, where you can't change the colour of clothing. My shirt got randomly changed to blue one day and it's been like that ever since. (until last week where all my bedrock skins got randomly deleted for no reason, another annoying bug. rip glitched blue shirt skin) I'm worried Microsoft bundling Bedrock and Java is a step towards phasing out Java. If that happens, the game is not gonna last much longer. Thanks for coming to my ted talk

I'm gearing up for the move to Linux Mint and preparing to do so before Windows 12 can be forced on me. Its always been a Microsoft problem, when Notch left the team as Microsoft geared up to buy Mojang and they took over everything, there were already visible cracks in the good old foundation of the game, the pressure of changing public opinion and whatnot began the push to commercialize it and then the deal was sealed with -the devil- _Microsoft_ and its been overall downhill since then despite getting some really nice things, its like they gave us time to get comfortable and then they started turning up the heat, pushing more and more commercialization and whatnot until the players start abandoning the game, wringing money out of the players as much as possible until all that's left is the ruined husk of modern Minecraft and disillusioned players crowding around older versions of the game, and then a 3rd party will start up and start developing the last good version they could crack into the code of and rebrand it so Microsoft doesn't sue them to death, and the old playerbase will slowly converge and support that version until it gets big again in a renaissance of Minecraft and then Microsoft will notice and try to either claim it or kill it as usual for such a greedy all-controlling dominating gigacorporation.

I feel like it's important to note how "concept art is not a commitment" is a very shoddy excuse when the context of the showcased concept art is that it would be a new feature. Obviously, just showcasing concept art does not mean it's a commitment--but you need to have clear communication if that's the case. Say "this is concept art, which may not indicate an upcoming feature" INSTEAD of "we want to make some biomes feel more alive, here's the birch forest." Communication is an important, and not often understood, element of game design and development--whether that's internal communication among multiple parties, or between developers and their playerbase.

The reason for that isn't necessarily the difficulty for mojang. Mojang only has full control over Java edition. Bedrock is under control of Microsoft. I'd imagine that Microsoft doesn't care enough about the game itself to let mojang fix the bugs and add features rather than improving the income from the marketplace. Features are added scarcely over time to keep players hooked and purchasing more marketplace items. Only when a big update hits, is there really going to be major additions. Something like spectator mode for example is being rolled out very slowly. Meanwhile it was released on Java around 2015. They're probably taking so long because Microsoft wants other features to be worked on that are more likely to make more money. Of course there also is that probable lack of communication ant talked about. Microsoft probably let them work on the update to get everything done as quickly as possible so they can bugfix things that matter to Microsoft (e.g. marketplace). Tldr: Microsoft has full control over bedrock. If they don't think they make a profit from something, it's a lot less likely to be done.

But these values do not remain when some have to pay for maps, Mojang introduce a terrible reporting system, and ‘upcoming’ features are dropping like flies.

@heck_bird2 жыл бұрын
i think the great thing about legacy console edition was the fact that it just worked, the performance was great and you got just about as much world customisation as you did with java (e.g. Amplified worlds, custom super flat) the game was also very polished and 4j studios updated the game very often, and if there was a bug that really bothered you,, it would have been gone within 2 weeks at most. It also innovated a lot because it introduced the crafting system that gave you the recipes for items (this was before the green book). And another thing i want to talk about is the dlc. Now i’m not a fan of the idea of buying skins and maps but for the dlc in legacy console, you got a whole library of great skins for each skin pack that you bought, and they were at a reasonable price. And the maps were also great because you could try them out before you buy them, (though you weren’t allowed to save the world). And in every one of the skin packs there were at least 2 skins you could use free of charge. But bedrock suffers in all of these categories, it’s very buggy, the dev team is lazy, the customisation is very barebones, the performance is terrible as it’s designed for mobile devices, and the dlc mostly sucks. So in conclusion, Legacy console edition was superior to bedrock in almost every way.

What my audience (bedrock players) complain the most is the treatment that the Bedrock Edition version has, for example: In The Wild Update you can put water inside the mangrove roots to use for your gameplay (compact cobblestone generator), there is also the "sink in the mud" feature, these 2 are not available for the bedrock version and Mojang seems to think it's ok to delay these features. I know it's little things, and Mojang is working hard on parities in the latest versions, but this has happened so many times in the last few years that now the Bedrock public is angry at Mojang for any feature that comes to Java Edition and not to the Bedrock Edition.
@Ponteiiro2 жыл бұрын
But what bothers me the most is the treatment they have with the community that produces Addons and are not their partners, because this developer version and other resources that Mojang makes available to their partners could be very useful for creators who are not, there are fantastic content created by 3/4 people and they at most ask you to go through a link shortener, on the Marketplace most are content with low quality and focused on making money, as a company I don't think it's wrong for them to want to make money and focus their resources on partners so that they can do this, but it's sad to know that there are creators (non-partners) who could make even better content if Mojang looked at Them more.

It just didn't seem like Minecraft and although I don't think many people were crying when it wasn't added it's clear to us that they're starting to slip up in their creative department. I was so excited for firefly simply for an environmental factor because ever since the 1.16 update I love particle effects and as a builder it really brings builds to life but now they're not adding them because frogs can't eat them?? That's like saying cookies are getting removed from the game because they kill parrots It's just dumb! They can't think of the fact that maybe frogs don't eat fireflies?? I think they are slipping up their priorities and that they really just need to focus on making the game better and doing proper parity changes. I still can't believe that I can't customize my shield in bedrock edition but meanwhile Java gets the ability to put named banners on their fucking maps! Both versions clearly have their own ups and downs but Java has very important features that would be amazing to have on Bedrock!!

When Microsoft bought out Mojang, this is something I wholly expected in the future. It took a few years, but it's here - corporatization. The board tells you you're spending too much money on bug fixing, so you stop fixing bugs. They say you're not making enough money, you need to be aggressive with your moneymaking. Mojang is no longer an indie company. They're a subsidiary of a trillion-dollar tech company. In trillion-dollar tech companies, it becomes really hard to make any sort of progress on features - you need approval for everything. "Hey, we want to add fireflies" and if the board says no for any slew of reasons, it's a no and you cannot add that feature. Even if you've already developed it. This is the issue that every single corporatized game studio faces. Delayed releases, massive bugs, and more can be seen in titles like No Man's Sky, Cyberpunk, Elite: Dangerous Odyssey, Fallout games, etc. This is just how corporatized games function. It seems to me that Mojang employees are fighting back by continuing to support Java edition, but eventually these problems will increase over time, and once Mojang doesn't make as much money, the subsidiary will be shut down and replaced by another company and other game. This is the inevitable truth when it comes to game development.

Microsoft on the other hand has full control of Bedrock edition, Bedrock edition is nothing but a Cash-Cow, Despite Bedrock edition being a C++ program it still isn't as polished as Java, Microsoft doesn't give a Damn about Bedrock edition, all they care about is the big bucks they make from the Marketplace, Mojang really does care about their game, Microsoft just cares about the dollars they make. Great comment. Though Mojang has their own issues still. There is 1 bug in the game that has been there since version 1.3.1. Essentially this bug is caused by the separation of the local player and the server. In og minecraft, if you get hit, the player and your camera moves in the opposite direction from where you get hit. Post version 1.3.1 your camera and player moves to the left no matter what direction you get hit from. Mojang responded to this saying they wont fix this. The fix is a few lines of code that resyncs the server and local player with each other.

In my opinion the firefly is a bit more of a negligible addition than birch forests; it would provide some great atmosphere but not much more. Despite this, I think there would be a much simpler way to add them, particularly now that frogs don't eat them (a decision that I think is perfectly reasonable). Think about how, in the Basalt Deltas, ambient ash particles float through the air. Something like that might be possible for mangrove swamps and fireflies. I'm not a Minecraft developer and I have no idea how to code though, so it's probably a good deal more difficult than I'm imagining. Feel free to respectfully disagree as well.

being that java is coded in, well, java. I can understand why it could take longer for bedrock to be fixed being that it's coded in c++. For example the laggy piston animation was set to not be fixed, but they changed it almost immediately once someone said that it could cause epilepsy from the blocks flashing white. Different codebases don't take longer or shorter to debug just because of the language they're written in. If anything, Java probably should be the one that takes longer to debug given that it now has code written over a decade ago by somebody who wrote in Java simply as a hobby who was basically ostracized from their company. @@trashboxbobylev9900 Sure, but that's only in an apples-to-apples comparison. Java's platform was made by a hobbyist intending to make a one-and-done indie project with a couple additions, Bedrock was made with an actual notion of the scale that Minecraft is/was going to be. If their cards are played right (and it seems like it isn't, just for the record), they should have a really good internal self-support system to be able to trace issues. Another indie project that's been in development hell for a while, osu!, actually has a large scene of community members contributing to a new revision for their game client in reward for bounties. From what I can tell, it generally ends up painless to find and squash bugs or add totally new features because their documentation is so good and they've had rather well organized project management. Somewhere from 80-90% of the onus falls on the management and support for how smooth the long-term development rolls, and that's what I feel like Mojang are lacking in their Bedrock team.

@@CheeseManFuu I imagine by this point that most of MC:Java's code has been overhauled and modernized at this point. So many huge architectural and design changes happened since Notch stepped away from Minecraft development, that I somewhat doubt that much of his original work remains. If I had to take a stab at why Bedrock is the way it is, it might be an obsessive focus on performance. Given that the Bedrock codebase seems to have originated in around 2011, specifically targeting phones from that era, it wouldn't surprise me if some of the decisions they made back then just to get it running on those platforms are causing issues today. The nature of some of these Bedrock-exclusive bugs kind of supports that (falling through the world likely being a floating point precision issue, world gen issues typically being caused by integer overflows, etc.).

That was also the day I lost all my librarian villagers who had also disappeared. Every tamed animal, villager, and mob inside or around my house was just gone. I feel like that I had so many mobs in the area, 90% of them being the fish in the pond, that the game just couldn’t function and it just basically whipped out all the mobs in the area. That being said it still wasn’t THAT many animals, including the fish it was less than a hundred in one chunk. As someone who primarily plays Bedrock Edition for fun and for content, I and quite a lot of the community can echo this same sentiment about its bugs and the marketplace. Obviously, it's not going to be easy to fix all of the bugs, but refusing to fix or even ACKNOWLEDGE them? There's been a major texture bug dubbed by the community "pink glitch" that was in the game for over *two years* before Mojang even acknowledged it, and even then, it was just the generic PR response of "thanks for reporting, we're looking into this". Since then, it's been over 7 months and we've heard next to nothing on it since then. At this point, "bugrock edition" is a bit of a meme in the community, but when you think about it, it's depressing how little work goes into actually making the game playable, but much work goes into presenting stuff on the marketplace and EVEN THAT has a lot of problems, as you and others have outlined. I just wish the Minecraft that the majority of people play was actually cared about by the Minecraft team, beyond just the money-making capabilities of it. It's their literal "flagship version" afterall - on the title screen, Bedrock Edition is now just "Minecraft" and Java Edition is now known as "Minecraft Java Edition". Thanks for making this video. there’s also a bug where persistent mobs like villagers can despawn at chunk borders, and its issue on the bug tracker is from 2017. you can notice your village going empty within your first few days of playtime, villagers seeming to disappear even in the same ingame day…and it’s not just a problem with villagers, it affects any mob that isn’t supposed to despawn. I’m surprised it’s not brought up much, I haven’t played Bedrock recently tbh but apparently it still hasn’t been fixed, the issue on the tracker has comments from very recent times and it’s still marked as unresolved…

Honestly.... That would explain why Java is somehow vastly superior to bedrock despite the setback of being directly based on unprofessional quailty Java coding from 2009..... vs an incredible, multiplatform, insanely streamlined C++ engine that is blatently more capable, but horrifically neglected. I think you just might be onto something here. Notice how virtually all of the complaints in the video are towards BEDROCK. Mojang handles Java Edition directly. It's that simple. I remember when I used to be a Minecraft Animator and my colleague, honestly a toxic and harmful person, used to be a Minecraft animator too before he moved to college. The biggest difference between his content and my content was that he dabbled with ONLY vanilla Minecraft, meaning anything that was already in the game, primarily the Nether. Whereas I loved to work with Modded Minecraft and I was pretty decent at it, too. I worked on Rymdnisse’s Modded Rigs, the Moa model and all those mob models were actually my models that I made in Blender 3D. Of course, I failed in my long-term endeavors to make Minecraft animations but after my battle with Stage 1 Brain cancer and after my animator friends left me when I was battling brain cancer, I watched the obvious decline of animation quality in the Minecraft animation community. As you can expect, the colleague I talked about earlier just continued to make vanilla-based content until the river of expansion dried up for every other animator. Now the Minecraft animation community is a sea of BS and monster school content that is aimed towards kids and mainly based around Vanilla Minecraft. I’m unwilling to come back to the community after my battle with cancer. I have been through too much trauma and, honestly, after everything I’ve seen and heard, Minecraft Animators aren’t worth my time anymore. And so isn’t Minecraft Animation. Which is a shame because I knew a LOT that could start a really powerful era in Minecraft animation, potentially. I knew how to export modded regions as .obj files (like the Aether, great example), I rigged up and modeled modded entities, I even made entire rig packs. All to be deleted, willingly, by me. Nowadays I’ve been just playing Terraria. Fun, engaging community and Relogic, unlike Mojang, have their heads on their shoulders and understand what the community wants. They didn’t remove fireflies because they’re toxic to frogs, they kept fireflies and added dragonflies. They were SMART. Also they would never EVER add the chat moderation or the shop function. Instead they added the Terraria Shop where you can buy merch online. My plans are to reach 10K hours in Terraria and then start working diligently on a rigs pack for Terraria, 3D. Along with a maps project where I can actually make really good 3D Terraria animations. Because, unlike Minecraft and its community, Terraria’s community has shown its ready, willing and able to progress and try new things and I’m honestly very proud to be part of this community. It’s been wonderful so far.

I quite honestly have been noticing a decline regarding how Mojang seems to be handling their updates and even their concepts for a long time, now. I never found it enough to condemn them, but it was always enough to irk me, one of my greatest examples of many problems being with the first ever mob vote, back when we got the wretched Phantoms. Their implementation is certainly annoying, but that isn't what makes me angry, that instead goes to what has become of the remaining three. Jeb's infuriating insistence on sticking to his words in spite of the entire community, to *NEVER* look back at these mobs ever again. Mob A would have been perfect for the Update Aquatic giving us that hostile ocean mob we were in desperate need of. Mob B honestly could have fit into any update, being a gluttonous mob that could be both underground AND in caves. Mob D, the Nether update would have been perfect.People even begged Jeb to add it, but he outright said "no." He literally has no reason to not give people what they want, but he holds himself to a promise everyone hates. That was the start of me noticing things I wasn't happy about with Mojang, pointless scrapping of ideas and designs and then saying "We need more mobs" after throwing away so many good ones. Now we have inconsistent standards of not wanting frogs to eat "poisonous fireflies" yet you're allowed to kill a parrot with a cookie. Not wanting to add endangered animals, hence why Pandas were only added after being saved, but then we get bees and Axolotls _because_ they're endangered. Not wanting people to think sharks are dangerous, yet it's perfectly fine to have polar bears attack you unprovoked. Nothing they say makes sense, and come across as excuses, and the "concept art doesn't count as a commitment" line feels like the ultimate backhand to culminate their lack of accountability, and poor handling of updates to the point roughly 75% of what what said to be in this update was removed, with many features even being three updates late by this point, and STILL missing. In short, this is becoming ridiculous, not only the general sense with Mojang, but also all of the scummy, and ridiculous bull with Bedrock Edition, how badly it's neglected while also being given features in a development build that people have been begging for, yet will never get. But the people that make money on being reprehensible trash get these desired features because it'll somehow make Microsoft more money. This right here is a tipping point, this is where Mojang needs to find a way, and quick, to decide whether it tips in a good direction, or a bad one, because their image is starting to get tarnished, and just their ask Mojang segment is a clear indication of this with the amount of negative reception they got for even just that gaslighting reason for cutting birch forests alone.

Join friends -- Similar to the friends list, but this is a feature that should've already been in Java Edition to help prevent the younger members of the playerbase from seeking out potentially unsafe alternatives. Mod support -- Another thing that the community has been asking for for a long time. Mojang has helped in the tiniest way by de-obfuscating the code, but it'd be awesome to have an official toolset for modding Minecraft. Optimization -- This is unlikely to happen within any reasonable period of time. Bedrock Edition has the advantage of fresher code, in contrast to Notch's spaghetti code in Java Edition. Cross-platform -- Unfortunately Java Edition is only on PC, which makes it almost impossible to do any form of crossplay. Bedrock Edition isn't even in the same programming language, so if they ever did reach parity, Mojang would have to actively translate between the two languages to play side-by-side. Now I have Deepslate brick, polished deepslate, deepslate tile, and chiseled deepslate and all four blend together well and have slabs and staircases. Lanterns look sooooo much better than torches or Redstone lanterns and chains add so much flair. Shovels can make paths now so I don't have to use gravel anymore. Fucking bubble elevators oh my god yesss. Villagers placed from eggs act like natural spawned villagers now. There are so many little things added over time that have raised the quality of the game so much higher as a virtual lego set you can survive and create in. It's so schizophrenic. On the one hand, it often feels like Microsoft and Mojang want Bedrock Edition to become the "definitive" version of Minecraft, since Microsoft has much more control over it's monetization. At the same time, basic feature parity between both versions appears to be too much to ask for. Redstone, the Nether, individual blocks acting differently. And how on Earth does Bedrock not have Hardcore Mode yet? They literally did an official "Meet a Minecrafter" on Philza after he lost his five year world. That was over three years ago! And this is before the gamebreaking bugs AntVenom mentioned come in. As for the Wild Update being much smaller than it was presented as (along with disappointing loot in the Deep Dark), the reasons for that just don't hold up and feel like weak excuses instead. We can't have fireflies because frogs would eat them, but it's totally fine that they eat slimes AND magma cubes? And they don't eat any other mobs, too, so it's not like the fireflies would've been an exception from a general rule. Not to mention that the concern that a child might feed their pet frog fireflies is laughable if Minecraft is then willing to have frogs eating magma cubes as a game mechanic. And the other updated biomes? If they weren't planned to begin with, why show them and present them as if they were upcoming features. If time constraints were an issue and they weren't willing to delay the Deep Dark and Warden any further, just be upfront about it. It's not the lack of content that annoys me, we had light updates before, notably buzzy bees which still did plenty under the hood. It's the dishonesty.
@norbucso2 жыл бұрын
I wrote this exact reasoning in other topics and got burned with the kids feeding pet frogs fireflies stuff. A lot of adults here. But I felt Mojang is doing BS. And they focusod mainly on the deep dark and still went through to call it the Wild update. More like a Dark or Scary update. With the cut features the balance was shifted in favour of the deep dark. Probably was late for marketing team to change all the stuff about it.

It is of course sad to see such a long list of events that have simply been ignored by a multi-billion dollar company, however, I feel that Mojang is taking this unfortunate path simply because of the mistakes they left, many years ago, which have over time built up to a massive list of issues. It was just last week that I was thinking about such issues and that I thought that minecraft was starting to, in a way, go downhill. I personally think that they need to stop focusing on a new update for a while (not that we haven't been waiting for months) and instead catch up on major bugs, before adding a new feature.

I agree with all of these points, and I feel that the announcement of Minecraft Legends is another nail in the coffin for Minecraft. I worry that Mojang will move more and more resources to this new game (I know it is being developed with help from another studio), and removing resources from Minecraft development. I think that this was their reason for combining Java and Bedrock edition purchases. They know that they won't be supporting the game for much longer, so why not just combine the games? It's a win-win. People get happy, Mojang has another reason to cite for cancelling updates. With more and more updates being cancelled, they may just slowly slowing support for the game, announcing a big update, and releasing it a year later with half the promised features. This cycle can only get worse and worse as time goes on, until we have the final update.

It was so tall you could see the clouds phasing through the top of the hollow mountain as if it was fog or something. It was honestly one of the most amazing things I had ever seen in any game. That moment made me fall in love with Minecraft and I realized how special it was. Ever since then I've wanted crazy world gen like that but we just don't really get that in Minecraft anymore. @@PVP1470 Wait, you aren't calling me a "Java only" player... are you? I play Bedrock on my phone like 75% of the time. I'm just pointing out the origins behind Bedrock's issues and explaining WHY they're so extreme. Yes, Java fans can exaggerate the problems. That doesn't mean issues are non-existent. A few real reasons for not liking Microsoft's laziness include: ○ Chunks interupting each other and causing huge ravines, unfinished structures, misplaced structures, etc. This isn't due to the terrain update alone. Bedrock has had this issue as far back as when it was still Pocket Edition. There's no reason for this to have lasted for almost decade. ○ The dreaded "disappearing mob glitch" which can cause any potential mob (regardless of name tags or tamed status) to be erased from the world randomly without warning. This glitch seems to vary in severity. In my experiences, a single mob will disappear. There are reports of ALL MOBS getting erased though. The biggest problem here is that Microsoft has been dismissing it for years now. ○ Features that were promised 5+ years ago still haven't been implemented in the release versions, yet they CAN be found fully functional in beta or developer versions. ○ Realms is pretty unstable despite being a paid service... ○ The command system in Bedrock edition is very, VERY limited.... Yet custom add-ons show us that even the weakest of phones (5 years or newer) can handle way more than what's incorperated here. ○ Superflats cannot be customised.... This one is awkward at best. There was this weird sort of knock-off game called SurvivalCraft for android phones. This obscure game DID have the option to customize flatworlds, back in 2012! Why doesn't Bedrock have this feature 10 years later? ○ Horse health bars appear to be *very* glitched? Sometimes individual horses will display two or three less hearts on the health bar than they normally do. This seems to sometimes be fixed by reloading the world. I'm pretty sure this is another glitch that Microsoft refuses to fix. It's a stubborn one.
