It’s a good thing we have GOG where all the games there are DRM free, which means you own them with no strings attached. I really hope GOG-like services open up for other media, otherwise you have something ridiculous like Kaleidescape where you spend a billion dollars to ‘download’ purchased movies to a 2-bit NAS, except those movies are encrypted and they’ll be deleted if they’re delisted from the Kaleidescape service.

In this case I'm confident it'll be different purely because of the '2' in the name Wii U was confusing for consumers because it looked and sounded like a peripheral/add-on for the Wii rather than a brand new console Calling the Switch 2 the "Switch 2" helps cut away that ambiguity. It's the sequel, it's in the name. It's less confusing even than the 3DS over the standard DS.

It may actually reflect Nintendo's desire to iterate upon the Switch for a long time. They are adopting the same naming conventions as phone manufacturers with the iPhone 10, Samsung S8 or whatever. At it's heart, the Switch is just a handheld console that docks so there's no reason to come out with a replacement handheld. Nintendo isn't the same company it used to be and I don't think they're concerned with coming up with innovative new hardware every few years. Nintendo needs to keep a conventional platform that supports third party games, they can't keep getting away with wacky devices. A stylus touchscreen would be nice though

@gljames24 Well not saying Switch should support stylus, bur rather it would be nice if we got another future device or display with stylus support. It's just a personal wish because for gameplay purposes, a stylus lets you do things a regular touchscreen, or joystick, or mouse can't do. But, all of that said, what's wrong with current displays like Samsung Note or iPads with styluses, they work great and don't scratch and also don't hinder the regular touchscreen functionality at all. I enjoy emulating DS and 3DS on my tablet for this reason

The next half life or portal game being on steam deck and actually utilizing the haptics fruitfully would be a big thing. Best handheld in terms of game library, build quality, repairability and price to performance ratio. I hope more people jump to it and that publishers start considering it as its own platform

Here is my prediction for the future. And I might be wrong here:) I predict the rise in Handheld gaming PC's is going to get more and more prevalent and will eventually be the preferred way to play among average people. Especially as they become more powerful. The switch has influenced this trend and will continue to do so.

It's the ability to be able to take it from your bedroom (in your bed) to the kitchen, and then to the living room where you can dock it to your TV (like the switch) that will appeal to many. Some will still want that raw power that a PC can provide, but others just want a fun experience and graphics are at a point where good is good enough.

Actually, this might be something of a market disrupter. You buy a console now and get a PC like experience where games 'age'... Your PC fanbase has the talent and facility to keep games going or revive them. For example, by having custom and private servers for games that the publishers had abandoned. To do anything remotely the same on a console means hacking/jailbreaking the system which isn't easily done ('golden firmwares' on certain console versions, like Ps3 for example). PC is usually copying and over writing files without the fear of bricking the system.

@11:05 Imo. Microsoft already has a handheld in the lab. Game Pass Might as Well be native on Stem. Microsoft is still a Computer Manufacturer similar to Lenovo. A Partnership with Value to me is the most lucrative move. Microsoft Gaming will downsize even further, outsourcing services to Value on the Software side, while still making money for Windows from Traditional Computers. Lets be honest here, console's biggest bottleneck is frankly the requirement to pay a subscription to play online. So many games I had either passed over, just got for single player, or just grabbed for PC due to that stupid decision long ago since I am already paying enough money for the games/DLCs. I shouldn't need to have a monthly payment ON TOP of that for a feature that is built into the game, no matter how small the price is for it. It was a stupid idea when Xbox started it during the 360 era, it was dumber when the others followed suit in later generations. Thank gods PC never followed suit. Rockstar also needs to suck a couple fat ones for taking down the mod, there was literally no point in doing it.

Yep Sw2 details dropped, and I could not care less, in fact I'm actively avoiding Sw2 coverage. The hilarious thing is that the lack or resources for Sony's "peripheral devices" has been thee MO for years. Heck, even PS Home felt like it was practically being developed by handfull of people in a garage and that was built _into_ PS3. Vita, Move, PSeye even their VR headset, they all run into a fatal lack of support after 2 or three years, why even bother? Heheh "PC gaming is picking up steam." cute. To be honest, I never thought I'd say it, but console gaming has become such a headache these days. When my PCs are performing better duties as a console (handheld or otherwise) than my consoles are, some people need a wake up call. There used to be a difference, in the experience, now aside from a few exclusives (that inevitably get released on PC as well) they're practically identical or notably worse and that's where the failure is for consoles lately.
