The hardware is not straining much. I set a pilot house on some and backed it up but it never would have moved. It was a strong, strong bond that would rip up the deck before letting go. Good stuff for the right purpose.

It might sound like a stupid question for seasoned boaters, but bear with me for a second: why not attach the engine to the transom directly (maybe strengthening the transom before, if needed) instead of put it on a bracket with all this work to do?
@malekodesouza72552 жыл бұрын
Sometimes moving the engine back is a performance upgrade. Some like that it moves all the “mechanicals” back off the transom, which creates more open cockpit space for fishing etc.

That 5200 can be removed it's a tough job but I've done it and without damaging the boat. If you use slightly heated heavey duty putty knives you will speed up the process and use plastic wedges to keep spreading the joint as you use heated putty knife and cut the adhesive as close to the bracket as possible.

lol Can't tell you how many times I have had to pull a bracket and it (5200)destroys the glass and gel coats, even had one rip the entire transom off . Amazing stuff, above water and things like your bracket could be installed with 4200 and save your transom possibly as well as having plenty of strength and seal power.

My old boat was a bracketed 23 center console. The bracket always leaked. I ended up putting a little automatic bilge pump inside the bracket. It had an old Mercury 250 EFI and could do 42 MPH at 5800 RPM. I'm surprised you're only getting 45 mph out of that 300 HP.
@UltraMagaFan2 жыл бұрын
The type of propeller you have can affect your speed. Our boat can go 55 but we have a high pitch propeller on it so it only goes 43. We sacrificed speed for acceleration. It accelerates like a jetski.

You put the bracket on incorrectly by not compensating for the distance behind the transom where the motor is... Engineering rule of thumb is add 1 inch for every 1 ft. in your case it looks like the bracket moves the engine back by about 28-30 inches. I noticed your mistake when you mounted the bracket... An old boat with new hardware is a gem. A new boat with cheap hardware is a problem waiting to happen. Marine stainless is king. The hull itself is what really matters. You can build a better boat than they did. I've done it more than once and I'm doing it right now on a welded aluminum boat that should last a lifetime. Start with the right hull. Look for a matching wrong hull with top notch hardware. Go new in critical areas and you will have a fine and seaworthy vessel you can depend on - Fail Safely 🙂 and pay attention to these vids.
