The difference maker it was getting jeff hardy on friday nights alone was historical. You gotta remember raw was still on cable and smackdown was on cw channel 23 in 08. It literally meant the world to us young fans who didnt have cable 💯

Smackdown was only bad summer and autumn 2010 when it got to the end of the year it started to change and Smackdown got better than raw which was clear in 2011. Raw in 2011 was trash, the only good thing that year was cm punk and the rock roasting people. I think the 2010 draft only helped raw in the nexus storyline but I think the draft really hurt the careers of John Morrison, r truth and ted dibiase jr, raw had more guys than they knew what to do with.

The very later years of the Draft definitely weren’t as excited as the Ruthless Aggression ones. Those had surprises and even game changing events. These later ones were predictable and more boring. No wonder the brand split died a year later.

Fun Fact: Swagger was originally suppose to cash in on John Cena the night after WM26 and win the WWE Championship but Cena refused (probably because he knew Swagger as WWE Champion would be terrible) so they had to awkwardly move Swagger to SmackDown and make him World champion. I think that's why his first fued was with Randy Orton (who was on Raw) because that was suppose to be his first fued as WWE Champion.

I really feel this was the beginning of the end of that brand- split era of smackdown (2002-2010). It had slowly gotten worse & worse & it basically died when they started the raw/smackdown super shows around 2012. Wasn't until 2016 that Smackdown became must see again.

As if the SmackDown main event scene wasn’t bad enough, the Divas Division got worse with Beth being Injured, Mickie being released, & Tiffany Suspended which led to that Divas/Women’s Championship unification match in order to have the championship appear on both shows.

I’ll never forgive WWE for that. Edge just returned in 2010 and sent him to RAW for no damn reason. Jeff leaving, Taker getting injured and mid card looked weak made Smackdown less entertaining than 2009.

That 2010 draft runied Sd for tue summer atleast, HHH and HBK left they moved Edge to raw to fill the void, jack swagger was the WHC big show was boring as a babyface, rey mysterio and del rio had a boring feud and cm punk was just around, sd only picked up when they face turned Edge and moved him back to sd, plus the kane and Undertaker feud

It got so much worse for them that year. I remember because that’s when I first got into WWE. Matt Hardy went out, Christian went out on Injury, they tried to force Swagger v Big Show on us several times, and it was so boring. Punk was one of the only things really keeping the show afloat until Edge came back.

2005 Draft seemed somewhat even on paper (Losing Kurt really did hurt though) but I argue that is the draft that hurt Smackdown's stock in the long term. It shifted the mindset of "Raw being the 1A to Smackdown's 1B" to "Raw is the A show and Smackdown the B show" as they moved the guy they saw as the face of the company there the second he got the title it seemed.

It honestly seemed like everything that happened on Smackdown in 2011 should've happened in 2010. The people who were drafted should've stayed with a few exceptions. The Blue brand could've had Undertaker, Orton, Edge, Jericho, Christian, Mysterio, Bourne, McIntyre, Rhodes, Morrison, Ziggler, Kingston, Kane, Henry, and Big Show all on the same show. Vince was too focused on nonsense and pushing the wrong people though. I think we'd all like to forget about the overpushes of swagger and del rio.

It seems like whenever Chris Jericho was drafted to Smackdown, they couldn't wait to get him back on Raw: 2002: Was drafted to Smackdown in March, got traded to Raw by August where he stayed for 3 years. Then returned there in November 2007 2009: Was drafted to Smackdown in April, but won the Tag Titles with Edge (then Big Show) so he could appear on both shows, but spent most of the year on Raw feuding with DX. Spent a couple months after losing the Tag Titles back on Smackdown exclusively, but was drafted back to Raw in April 2010. 2012: Returned to Raw, but the brand split was pretty much done by that point 2016: Drafted to Raw in July, stayed there until April of 2017 when he was drafted back to Smackdown, only to make maybe one-two appearances before leaving the company altogether and later joining AEW.

From 2010 until the 2016 draft, Smackdown was terrible for the most part (apart from Christian vs Randy Orton, Mark Henry’s Hall of Pain and CM Punk vs Rey Mysterio) and acted as a highlight show for Raw. Smackdown Live restored the legacy back.

Smackdown 2010 was my safe haven, I would remember rushing to my dad's room hearing green day, who I didn't even know the band name lol, and being hyped, watching smackdown was like watching a movie too me, I didn't get too see much of raw cus it was obviously on school nights but Friday nights, get to stay up late, watch smackdown, see my number 1 Rey Mysterio, Kofi, Big show, Kane, Cody, Swagger, Edge, and yes even Del Rio 😑, but the memories I had around this time, especially around a dark depression period of my life, was my home, this era was special too me, and at least the draft back then was at least fun instead of just coming out to a podium stand and reading off a card 😒
