For me, the fundamental problem with the Dragon Knights events is the Dragon Knights themselves - in particular, Lancelot. Lancelot as a character has had no development whatsoever - he is still essentially the same guy we met 11 years ago, whereas Vane's become a real character in that time, Percival got a *ton* of time to shine in the Wales event and has much more fully fleshed personality, and Siegfried is hot so he gets a pass. But Lancelot refuses to change, even when worldshaking things happen around him that should change his world. That, combined with a childlike insistence on throwing out a new grenade of "but then ANOTHER TWIST HAPPENS" every single year, results in something that I don't enjoy in the slightest. And I swear this isn't me being a flaming lesbian! I love Vane! I love Feather's parts of the concordant events! I thought the Juri event fucking ruled!

Combine this with a reckless insistence on Making Feendrache Reckon With Its Sins to the point that I no longer feel any reasonable person would support the Feendrache government with HOW MANY SINS IT HAS TO RECKON WITH, and Lancelot still insisting on unwavering national faith (nationalism already being a shaky look in modern stories), I just get *awful* vibes.

And none of that even approaches the fact that the plot makes zero logical sense in terms of decisions being made and the consequences thereof. Appointing a 14 year old generations-removed foreigner as heir of your kingdom is how you get coups!

No but seriously you can say "Wales has fallen" all you want but you need *soldiers* to occupy land. This isn't a problem you can solve with draconian supersoldiers you need to have enough soldiers to guard X number of people and have them comply and not just ignore you. One could argue in the medieval era that the citizenry wouldn't care past who they pay taxes to but Granblue is *clearly* politically in the late 18th/early 19th century long past the development of nationalism, it would make no sense for the people of Wales to just roll over and accept their fate. Unless Albanorum is supposed to be *larger* than Wales, which would make EVERY OTHER event not make sense-

Oh but don't get comfortable, because you know how Merlin has been the secret force behind everything bad happening? It turns out that we have *Morgan* who is a different secret force behind everything bad happening to Merlin and *their* lost kingdom that died is way older than Merlin's so they're even cooler and more of a threat and-

I’ve finally caught up with this event series after having to wait for a The Strength to Wield rerun for like a year now. I think that the event series read better when you read them all at once since you can then tell when they’re setting things up, for example I was able to read The Strength to Wield and then immediately go and read the next two events before getting to read the new event. Honestly I really enjoy the storyline but I can tell the issues people have with it. I think the major issue people have is for how small of a conflict the Dragon Knights story really is, there’s so much set-up, mysteries and world building added to an originally very basic plot and not enough being concretely answered. Another issue is comparing the scale of the events to another long running and finished storyline in the Society storyline. It wasn’t locked to this one big island and had multiple set-up events before starting to get the plot truly started with Right Behind You, the stakes are also massive with Home Sweet Moon being a potential doomsday scenario for the entire GBF world. The stakes are so massive for this storyline that even the Main Story Quest has to acknowledge the existence of The Society. On the other hand the smaller scale of the Dragon Knights storyline I think can make some people resent the attention the storyline gets. Not helped by not knowing who the true villain is. Ignoring the first 5 events since Isabella is the original antagonist who is pretty handily defeated by the second event and Aglovale is a villain for one event, with the next two events having nothing really important happen. The Cabal seems to originally be set up as the villains but now they’re probably a Red Herring and Morgan might be the new main villain? It’s very flip-floppy and so while that’s great for making marketable reformed villains (I genuinely really like Aglovale’s writing). It isn’t good for keeping some readers invested since they’re just given more questions and not enough payoff. I actually think that the most recent event did plenty good in addressing a lot of questions and was just a good read in general. I really enjoyed it and loved a lot of the scenes with Vane and Arthur. I’m personally of the opinion that there might be another one or two events before they get an Anniversary event, hopefully with some appearances from the other Knight characters like Charlotta and Naoise, as well as maybe involving some Dragon associated characters like Stan and Naoise again. I think it’s way more likely we’re going to be having to wait a full year for another instalment in this series while Percival and Aglovale are MIA. At least this hopefully means that the April Fools event might not be Sanrio again since funnily enough it’s connected to To Each His Ideal. I think being a yearly story is also a bit of a blessing and a curse. On one hand you get yearly content with these super popular characters, on the other hand you’re expected to remember basically everything important that has happened since 2014. Strangely enough though despite there being so many entries in the Dragon Knights series compared to other events, I can remember them all while I can’t with a fan favourite event like 000: if you asked me to list off what happens to you I can only really remember a bunch of fights, some flashbacks, Beelzebub losing to Lucilius and the fight to seal him and like a bit of the ending where Lucifer and Sandalphon talk. I don’t know why that event was so forgettable to me but I’ll probably get around to rereading it one day.

@8:57 As for Avalon, considering they said it was before the invasion of the Astrals, that means it was before 2,000 years ago from the plot of the main story, but a good time after the split of the Omnipotent which happened like 8,000 years ago iirc. So within that timezone. The Sky Realm still existed.

Given that Excaliber is an Astral weapon, one must have gotten involved with Avalon. Especially given that Sylph is modeled after a Fairy. (More specifically, an Astral's dead skydweller wife)

(I wish they would give specific numbers for things when it came to the dates certain things are said to happen.)

wait holdon Ducky-- SIEGFRIED actually is a narratively important event for the stupid saga since the whole thing is kicked off by someone related to the Cabal giving Siegfried's old bestie the dragon shit.

I'm a firm believer that things will eventually converge in a GBF anniversary event (coping that it's going to be next anni) with all of the set up similar to Home Sweet Moon with the Society gang. Hoping I'm wrong tho since I'm not too invested in the Dragon Knights story line.

yayyyy tjank u for covering dragon knights. i now understand the haterisms and remarks u make on the event series now and then. and i also agree about vane being a great character. my impressjon as a newbie is that its really funny that he has this whole childhood besties / i want to catch up to you thing with lancelot who is... honestly a very boring and static character? GET VANE OUT OF HERE......... PUT HIS BOOBS SOMEWHERE MORE INTERESTING....

I was fine with this event up to the point that Albert was made the new king. Bro really said "I may be literally dying as we speak but Otherworld take me I will make this 10 year old child king of an entire nation (in the middle of a war btw) before I leave it to a poor." Then they said that Chickadee dude was a homunculus the whole time (a decision im sure they 100% made all the way back in the first Chickadee event and isnt an insanely random retcon) and I promptly skipped the rest for my crystals.

In actual Arthurian myth, Arthur became king at 15 years old. GBF Arthur is currently 14, so they're just staying true to the myths at that point. Regardless of how you feel about a child being king, that's kinda the whole premise of King Arthur to begin with. The stuff with Cruz has been hinted at since The Strength to Wield in 2021, to the point that I'd seen many people theorize that he was a homunculus back then, particularly after To Each His Ideal came out after. Whether that was the direction they had in mind for the character from the start or not, we can't tell, but you can't say the reveal in this event came out of nowhere.
