Fun fact, interesting that they named the other cat "Aegis" since that is the name of a very famous shield in Greek mythology. So, it fits Amaya's character to a "T".

I'm glad they have subtitles because I can't see most of Amaya's signs. Also just a pet peeve. I feel like a woman who's dating and engaged to be married to a fully Deaf woman who only uses ASL as her means of communication should know more ASL.

@@ThePrincessCH My main point is that if this was more realistic when representing a Deaf character, Janai would definitely know more sign. I've seen Deaf and hearing relationships countless times before and everytime the hearing partner isn't perfect but knows enough sign to have deeper conversations. The chopped up signing that Janai presents in her scenes is something you're more likely to see from a person who took ASL 1 and is now interacting at their first Deaf Meet. Amaya having this "super lip-reading" ability of being able to read someone's lips no matter the lighting, the distance, if they just met, how much facial hair they have, and whether or not they enunciate, is not only very unrealistic, it's actively promoting toxic stereotype of Deaf people that most hearing people believe is true. I know so many Deaf children who have parents that know absolutely nothing when it comes to ASL. They expect their child to lip-read and when asked why they don't learn they almost always respond with one of two answers. 1: "They know what I'm saying." 2: "I've been planning on it, but I just haven't had the time." If the show wants to accurately represent Deaf people they need to have more than one Deaf character so that the representation isn't all on Amaya's shoulders, and to show the diversity in the experience, and they need to have Deaf people working on the show.

There’s some scenes when Janai talks to her while facing semi-away and down, and I’m (heavily) assuming that would make it difficult for Amaya to read her lips. Are they alluding to the fact that Amaya is not 100% unable to hear?
