The Dragon Rally 2023

This is my experience of the infamous Dragon Rally held by Conwy MCC in North Wales .
The weather in 2023 was unseasonably mild, and whilst this may have disappointed some hardened Dragoneers, it suited me just fine!

Charlie, in terms of filming, editing, music selection, and everything with making this adventure, give yourself a pat on the back, one of your best. I hope I'm not the only rider that does this, but as you travel along the motorway, I'm scanning far ahead and both sides of the roadway, beautiful scenery. Now just add a mirror, and I'll check to the rear for approaching traffic - lol. Well done.

My riding pants are waterproof as is my jacket during the rainy months. In fair weather I wear a vented jacket but my lightweight rain jacket is always with me. Keep up the great videos!

glad you had fun at the Dragon, yep 1985 was a snowy one, roads cut off , snow the same height as the hedgerows... but great fun, i had a Dneipr and sidecar, probably the best machine for the conditions... oh to be young and foolish... instead of old and daft... great video

As a young lad very very very very young lad in Ruthin "North Wales" I am sure I saw the Dragon Rally pass through more than once? I recall siting on the stone wall watching all these machines go by ? That I feel was my intro to the motorcycle!! I have been on bikes ever since. Big bikes little bikes 2 stroke 4 stroke quads even scooters !!!!!! You name it and I bet I have riden it L.O.L......... I sadly now only own 8 bikes as the boss made me sell the others and these 8 are also going to go. Not sad just prepared to let others have a go on my lovely machines I simply just dont get to use them as they should be used and they should be used should they not ?? God bless and whatever you do always keep those two wheels turning because they are what life is really all about and never ever forget that !!!!!!!!! God Bless Ya All

Hi Charlie, I thoroughly enjoyed your video, brings back a lot of memories, I never did the Dragon, but a very good friend did and it snowed for them! that was in the 1960s, it took him a week to thaw out! lol we used to go up into Scotland on fishing camping trips on unreliable British Motorbikes, but I suppose then we had no option, I know North Wales very well beng from the North of England and have camped all over the area, some beautiful places! especially around North to mid Wales, if you have never been to Harlech and Barmouth I can recommend it, l you were very lucky with the weather and hopefully you will again next time you go, keep on Biking and ps loved your music choice.

Good heavens Charlie...i must be getting old....ive been to dragon twice on my Norton commando, cant remember year but we had 6inches of snow and met in betsie-co-ed..(sorry about spelling) and 200 of us ended up camping on a rocky cliff for two nights!!! coldest ive ever been. I was just feeling a bit home sick, just kidding, looked like a great bunch of co riders, it’s really refreshing how bikers seem to get along together putting aside all the niggly bits. Like our ten expats on our Laos, Vietnam tour, I think we had six different nationalities! From the three giant 1250 GS’s down to our two 300X Versys maybe struggling a little on the fast straight bits but loving the tight hairpins and twisties in the mountains.

Cracking vid Charlie. And yes you got lucky with the weather and posh site. As you have gathered ,it's not normally like that. Last year was grim and the previous rally in 2020 gave us storm Ciara. I've done 9 dragons now and only 2 have had ok weather. Keep the vids coming

I was on the first rally in 1962 but only on a pedal cycle as I did not yet have a motorbike. It was snowing. My pal and I only had one pair of gloves between us so we too turns wearing left or right and kept the other hand in a pocket as we rode - about 90 miles from Manchester. We stayed at a nearby Youth Hostel.

Hi great to see the vid, was wandering if the rally was still going went to my first in 1963, 2 up on aTriumph sports cub, 24 hrs to get to Llanberis and 48 hrs to get to back to Wimbledon, did 3 more after then wife and kids put an end riding hope you enjoyed it. STAY SAFE

I came across this video quite by chance and reminded me when I went to my first (and only) Dragon Rally back in 1978 or 79. I have the enamel badge somewhere. We were at Capel Curig and the weather was rubbish getting there but lovely on the day. I went on my Moto Guzzi Spada bought three days earlier. My mate Pete came on his Panther 120 and we spent several stops bolting it all back together... Now I have a Guzzi Stelvio and will plan the Dragon again. Lovely video, thanks for taking me back down memory lane!

Nice video. the campsite looks so clean and without mud! Even proper toilets and showers! Great! In February, the weather was actually not s bad in North Wales. Also in 2023 I was with my wife and my sidecar, again for a few days, relaxing and hiking in Bewts-y-coed. We love the north-Wales area. . .

Did my only Dragon Rally in 1971. It was a lot less organised and wild and somewhere up a mountain as I recall. Getting there involved snow.....Great memory though.

Very cool video Charlie. I’ve been to many a biker rally/party. But never one with bagpipes! It was very interesting to see a woman’s perspective on a biker rally. Especially the all night snoring. Looked like a fun time. Save your money and come to America. We’ll show you a biker party. But I’m pretty sure there won’t be bagpipes.

That was great Charlie, When travelling at Himmy speed you have to get into the mindset that you ain't going to be going.....in a hurry:) Loved the rally and the company. For your first Dragon, always a good idea to travel with someone who knows the ropes. Weather is often mixed, Ive been to some very mild dry (taking tent down in T shirt) ones, and some very snowy icy very difficult ones! Usually go on my old outfit. had to work this year so wasn't there, but I love the weird and wonderfull machinery that turns up each year! Well done.

That looks like a good weekend and it’s a great video too. I’m heading off camping next weekend at the Truff Hivernale in the Dordogne in France. The forecast isn’t looking too good… That will be my third winter weekend this year, the last one got down to -11° overnight so hopefully next weekend will be relatively comfortable.
