I learned this valuable lesson in life regarding roommates 1. Friends have a very difficult time living together who have the same circle of friends. Two strangers with different and separate lives live together better. 2. 95% of the time if someone is paying rent to you, some situation is going to cause them to stop paying rent to you ( job loss, critical illness, their family drama… etc) The person will justify why they can’t/shouldn’t pay you rent. Both lessons are personal learned and made life extremely stressful.

People not flushing the toilet, vomit in the garbage can, landlord not having the heat work consistently, fruit flies, mice in the apartment, people cooking vulgar smelling food every day, people leaving pots and pans on the burner when not cooking, dealing with a cat that escapes the apartment. Just some of the issues I've been dealing with. I am stuck here until I find a way to make more money.

That sucks. Been there. I made my own space that no one else was allowed aka literally locked. That was MY home and haven. Not that house only my room. Well it was the basement room so I did have a lil more space than an avg bedroom but there was my hubby and I. We had everything we needed down there. Made it where I could make small meals down there and I shoved a mini fridge with a lock to hold MY drinks. Lived like that for 2 years til we got our own place. The house was trashed 100%. My room was the opposite cuz I can't handle that kinda clutter!! So idk if that's an option for u but if u can lock your door DO IT. Keep YOUR space clean and clear. Get a hot plate to avoid the kitchen. Locks r ur BFF. Good luck cuz

@@pablodelsegundo9502 I emphasis this because one of the people that lives on the floor cooks food every single day and night. I have a sensitive sense of smell + I don't eat meat. I don't even know what they are cooking but it's never the same. I don't want to know. The food they cook absolutely permeates through the apartment. It lingers in the air all damn day and night. I've smelled it outside the building sometimes. Then the smell gets into my room and it upsets me. Can't do anything about it. I've never mentioned it to them but it's always been an issue for me while living here
@brieanastraiton366524 күн бұрын
@GrimLion good for u dude! It kept me busy and helped my mental health significantly when I added those locks. U have to get creative if u have ppl who want in to take ur shit and have no qualm breaking a pass thro lock. I had a full exterior key lock I bought and installed on the door to the basement. There was a walk out so I had to get one for that too. It was a rental so he wasn't willing the straight break the door to get in but picking the locks he did no problem. So keep that in mind if u do decide to lock your kingdom up lol. Once I knew no one could get in and mess it up I instantly felt better. Then finding fun ways to decorate and arrange things. I'm a big DIY and craft person. So I built shelves and painted. I made it my peace place.

I lived in a flat share with 6 women and it was a dream. Each woman took one night and cooked and for all 7 women. We cleaned the whole place together 1X per week. We had a rule that you do your own dishes or the dishes go in the trash. Everyone just ate lunch out (cafeteria) and just ate an apple or something for breakfast.

I don't know if I'm unlucky, but I've never had decent roommates in the 10 different ones I've had. I've had people who barely cleaned up after themselves, threw parties until 4AM multiple times a week, thought I was their personal taxi service, and were generally not compatible with myself. It was my motivation to work hard and get a place all to myself.

I would've NEVER let them move in to begin with! I trust my instincts, intuition, gut and foresight too much to have anyone live with me! I wouldn't even let relatives live with me! HARD PASS!

I hate hearing the word roommates once you become an adult and you find a building and it's a landlord the landlord needs to teach you guys how to call it a rooming house. The only time you use the word roommates is when you're in some kind of school institution like a college or even high school but when you are in the adult World especially passing 25yrs years old a landlord should always teach you the word (ROOMING HOUSE) you get your own key to a room you get a locked door and once you lock it it's a tiny apartment room and you go out you share the kitchen and you share the bathroom but never call that roommates. It's called (ROOMING HOUSE) and everybody has their own dishes. And I blame this on the landlord because it's the landlord's responsibility to show up and dispute the arguments between rooming house adults that pay the landlord rent in order to accommodate and the landlord is the one to enforce to say clean up after yourself and put away your pots and pans and there will also be most likely multiple fridges you're not going to have fridges sharing you will have your own fridge PERIOD.
@krn268325 күн бұрын
That's not how it works in America. The landlords don't usually live in the house. We have roommates even as adults. There's no locks on bedrooms unless you get permission to put one there yourself. Landlords aren't there to teach us anything, they just own the property, collect the rent and hopefully do maintenance on the property. Rooming houses haven't existed in the US since the 1950s. Separate fridges. 😂😂😂😂😂 I've never seen a rental with more than one fridge. Good god, how old are you? 😂
@kconway226323 күн бұрын
Apparently rooming houses are still a thing. I only know them and SRO’s from watching old TV shows. Generally, though, Magneto, in the US, you rent an apartment or a house, and the landlord might be local or could be a Wall Street investor. Roommates usually share a kitchen and living area. They may have their own bathrooms.

This girl said she was in a mid-life crisis at 18 because she wasn’t comfortable… this younger generation is delusionally spoiled. Try figuring shit out at 15 / 16.. wash the dishes because you’re grateful.. I didn’t understand her story. She was definitely out of pocket and the friend don’t owe you a ride because you think she can give you one.. do better and do it alone if you don’t want to accommodate your accommodators
