When on Royal Caribbean they rarely stopped you going on deck. Even when really rough. Got some great videos. Recently on PO though they stopped you going on deck in a brisk wind.
@ardongrainford8004 Жыл бұрын
Rough, didn,t see any rolling or slamming. Been from Holyhead numerous times in rougher weather in a far smaller ship, and wasn’t bad.
@flydriveexplore Жыл бұрын
You don't get the movements like you do on a small ship but you still get the rise and fall. The wind was force 10 with 5 - 6 metre swell.
@michaeljohndennis2231 Жыл бұрын
I’ve been on rough crossings on the Irish Ferries Ulysses Cruise Ferry, between Holyhead and Dublin in the Club Class Lounge at the bow of the ship, both summer and winter, daytime and overnight crossings and it’s not been too bad, you just have to remain seated during rough weather on the Irish Sea
@flydriveexplore Жыл бұрын
We've never done that crossing but heard the Irish Sea can be rough. Luckily these ships are so much more stable than the ferries.

I have travelled through the Bay of Biscay a few times. On one occasion the bow of the ship would kneel into the sea, we were enjoying 😮 a gale force 10. I was on the 5th deck looking over the rail and was soaked with seawater. I like to think I have sea legs but I couldn't eat for 2 days. Looking inside some of the eateries not many diners were there. Though enjoyed all the cruises I have been on.
@flydriveexplore Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't fancy that, luckily the ship was quite large and stable compared to some of the smaller ones we passed.

I did the opposite in July traveling from Lisbon to Dover. The seas were much calmer but there were a couple of ports that we were unable to dock due to high winds and needing to tender. Jersey was one andSt. Ives another. Hopefully you will get some better weather in the Caribbean.
@flydriveexplore Жыл бұрын
Yes, by the third sea day the weather was much better and the sea much calmer.

Brilliant video, esp as we're doing this next year. One (slightly), off topic conversation question but ... Please can you tell me where you get your shirts from? Every time my fiancee watches your videos she says "what a nice shirt"!

You both have made us want to investigate sailing from Southampton! (never did it before), you made it look easy, and this Bournemouth thing I am amazed, never knew about flights etc, although it is way to far south for us to fly & drive back, maybe a hotel stay and parking in Southampton, I don't now yet, anyway great stiff to ponder over.
@flydriveexplore Жыл бұрын
They do offer transfers to and from Southampton from a few airports before and after the cruise.

Hi guys done the repositioning cruise a few times and then stayed on to do the next one.I’ve been in Biscay in a lot worse than that doing the same cruise on Azura a few years ago we had weather far worse than that until Madeira.One consultation was we were one of the few in the dining room and the service was tremendous.Several passengers were complaining about the “deck slap” caused by the waves.Is Paul Brown the captain?
@flydriveexplore Жыл бұрын
It was our first crossing, although it was rough, it wasn't as bad as some of those horrific journeys like you mention. Yes, Paul Brown was the captain.

Hi haven’t seen your video yet, didn’t venture out on the bay of biscay when I was same time as you and your wife.I did see you both but didn’t know about your videos until today. I had been watching Ben and David, I did get to speak to them. Just curious as to what it feels like on the elevators, when the ship is swaying?
@flydriveexplore Жыл бұрын
We didn't use them that much but they all continued to work normally. The swaying is quite slow, it's not a sudden movement.
@jeanheaphy2222 Жыл бұрын
They felt ok the lift although they didn’t have many in use, didn’t like the bay of Biscay I might get to like it next or not, going on Iona then

Cabin 9.123 again - yes it was a little rough and your video shows that heaving sea ! But, yes, it was not as bad as we feared it might be so we were able to enjoy the experience if that is the correct term. We met with a couple whose cabin was up on Deck 17 later in the trip and she had been seasick throughout the trip even after we had arrived at the Caribbean so being higher up clearly has an effect. Mind you she had only got a wristband rather than tablets so maybe it was not as effective. Incidentally, one minor thing that I was not so keen on was the high glass plating all around the Promenade deck above the handrails. This meant that you could not rest your arms on the hand rail and peer down at the sea which I like to do and kind of 'cages you in'. Only a minor point...someone told me it was not so much to prevent people from possibly falling but streamlining the ship which makes sense I suppose but you lose some of the thrill of being out on the open deck.
@flydriveexplore Жыл бұрын
Yes, we went up to the Crows Nest bar and you could really feel the motion up there. Pleased that the tablets did work and we didn't miss out on anything (both of us are bad travellers).

It was quite funny when later that day a man carrying two pints of lager came running into the lounge, across the floor and nearly out of the other day as the ship rocked. He couldn't stop himself and didn't want to spill a drop.
