I had a T9 Boise game last week where I was the only T7 ship and it was on Atlantic irrc - very few islands to camp. I was worried. Figured it would be over soon. But I found a spot and used it the whole time, never relocated just swung from one end of the isle to the other as red ships tried flanking. I did about 90k dmg, 2 kills, OK. but it was textbook defensive cruiser play when uptiered. Patience and awareness were key. Great battle. The team was good, too.

(6:52) When I was still playing, low tier cruisers when spotted were always targeted first by the team, trying to get an easy kill I guess. Unless it was a ship everyone hated, like a Smolensk for example, high tier ships usually didn't just focus other high tier ships, but that was just my experience. Still like to see a DeGrasse replay, was always a solid T6 cruiser. Thanks again for the video.

While it was uptiered, you whole side of the flank was really T7, except Balti. That certainly helps when bottom tier, if your side isn't dealing with a Pomern or Iowa instead of Gneis or Nagato. Good vid.

The Boise is my go to T7 cruiser when I want to warm up, get a good game in. It absolutely slaps. The 15 guns, the heal, the hydro, the fire chance - The Boise is a beast. It can take a hit, reposition and commence burning down everything in sight. It also wrecks dds. I've sunk more dds with Boise than probably any other ship.

Glad to see the Boise in your video. It is one of my go to ships on Legends so It's tier 6 there and only see 1 tier difference. But the ability to burn down BB's and the AP when you get CC's on broadsides and crush them quickly. My best salvo on broadside was 12 citadels out of 15 on a poor Helena Dev strike was fun.

In my experience, good players will kill lower tier ships first as it removes guns from the enemy team faster and everyone knows a tier 8 can set you in fire just the same as a tier 10

Yup, especially frustrating when you're nose-in to a +2 ship and they shoot you, even when a teammate in front of you that is flat broadside to the enemy that just shot you.

@@ryanbrochu3336 Hated being up-tiered. As being bottom tier. you're easily going to be bodied. and left last in place. Reported for poor play... Which is why I often switch to submarines after being up-tiered like that. To spite the next match.

Helena was my favorite T7 cruise until I got the Boise. The slower reload is more than compensated for with the heal.

You should try the Witchita some time, a decent tier 8 cruiser, that gets almost no coverage on YT. A bit of the opposite of this one though, more of a CA and no heal. Another question if you happen to see this, I have been stuck for a while trying to decide between the Salem and the Napoli for my first coal ship, which would you suggest?

Napoli is unique and fun. Salem plays fully like DM but worse version. Short radar and super heal worse than mino.

Mid tiers are the most fun, you just need to stop being afraid of being up tiered PQ. My highest base EXP round was in a Tirpitz VS T10, over 5k base EXP. T8 premiums are awesome credit farmers vs T10. 1-2 million credits earned a round is pretty common with all the new bonuses. Keep the ship alive and the gun barrels hot!

Luv, luv, luv my Helena. Wish it had a small heal. Always sorta envied the Boise however. Shoulda told us how it is attained? 6600 doubloons (with coupon) only? Had a game with almost 3700 base xp several weeks ago, submitted to Jingles and and few other WOW's sites, but none wanted to post a T7 ship in favor of their coveted, favored TX and superships. God forbid.

Why does IFHE have different levels of pen at different tiers - I thought HE pen was related to calliber independent of tier?

that was originally 1/6 caliber rule, then they introduced 1/4 rule for some ships, then IFHE rework made 152-155mm use 1/6 caliber rule from tier 1-7 and 1/5 caliber rule from tier 8 to 10 (beside cruisers only some ships use it, most BB's 152-155mm still have 1/6 rule at tier 10) reason why 152-155mm were split was due to IFHE change, previously they has 24mm pen and reached 32mm with IFHE, now they have 25mm pen and reach only 31mm with IFHE reason HE penetration change and IFHE penetration bonus being reduced from 30% to 25% previously without IFHE HE penetration needed to be 1mm above armor value to penetrate so all HE has 1mm less penetration that it had now

It's not about IFHE, it's that t7 cruisers have worse *base* pen for the same caliber between t7 and t8; Helena/Boise have less pen than Cleveland. Starting at t8, light cruisers get 1/5 HE pen instead of 1/6 HE pen, which means 152s can't pen 32mm at t7 (when they have standard 1/6 pen) but can pen 32mm with IFHE and 1/5 pen.

That change was literally implement in IFHE rework Reason? IFHE penetration dropped from 30% to 25% (and fire chance was changed from flat -1-3% to 0.5 base fire chance multiplier), it was to make IFHE less mandatory on light cruisers and some destroyers Through some ships lost on possible penetration thresholds as 1/6 pen 152mm at tier 1-7 can't pen anymore 32mm and 127mm guns can't pen 27mm with IFHE

You forgot to mention PQ that the 9 de Julio is a copy paste of the Boise. So anything that applies to the Boise, also applies to the 9 de Julio.

WG code using the highest point of a ship for the peek around corner cheat is so lame. if you are 100 yards from a ship poking its ass out you should be able to spot it.

Pq I like how you call maine the best supership yet when a satsuma player focuses up, he dev strikes me from across the map kills my teams Maine and snipes my team cv. Imo satsuma overall is just better for the meta. And I feel like in your Maine videos you specifically never mention satsuma in any of your supership comparisons
