Great info. They do come in corals, and are notorious for growing under the tissue of montiporas and even capable to annoying it, until the coral die. Mine came in a Monti and spread to pretty much all my other montis. Like many, they never bothered me until the day they spread and started annoying corals.

I have them in droves... drives me nuts. They bother zoanthids a lot. They sprout up in between the heads and cause them to stop opening. Then the zoanthida grow algae on the them if closed for awhile and don’t want to open. It’s a vicious cycle. Hate that pest

Thank you Travis, another great video! I too have vermetid snails, and looking through other videos I found one that said emerald crabs eat them. I really had a bad infestation,(100 gallon tank) so I got about 7 Red and 7 green,(emerald crabs) and all different sizes too! I observed them at work shortly after I let them in there new home. I am not going to say that they are completely gone, but around 90% of them are... I do have a Maluranus wrasse but she just picks at different things around the reef! Just saying and helping people with this issue like you. Thanks again for the great videos and happy reefing to all. From Key West Florida Sincerely Marco

Great topic/video. I also have these bastards in my nano. Like you, i have introduced bumblebee snails. Also, once every few weeks, I'll go in there and massacre as many as possible with tweezers. So far, i haven't totally eradicated them but they haven't populated out of control either.

I bought 2 coris wrasse and a melanarus wrasse as I had an infestation of these things. Soon after, they disappeared. I can't say for sure it was those fish that was the cause, but damn was I happy.

I have a tank thats only 3 months old, all new rock except for a couple of pieces that I thought I cleaned. After 3 months, these pest are throughout the tank. Definitely an eye soar but hardly ever see their mucus trails.....until I disturbed my sand bed yesterday and created a bloom of junk, my tank was like a nest of cobwebs within minutes. About 20 minutes later all back to normal. This scares me how many active vermitids there are....I was hoping they were empty abandoned tubes and they just move on and make another tube. I'm hoping to be able to live with them in my mixed reef. I cant go through another reboot starting with all new everything.

They have become a nightmare for me! Killed a monti and zoas with their web. Had a few large ones a year ago...and now thousands of tiny ones. I’m worried when these thousand tiny ones grow I will have to start completely over. They are no joke

my display is infested with them, but apart from the ones next to my Blastomussa Wellsi, the rest don't seem to have noticeable web out and being a nuisance. I read that by glueing them shut in the tank could create some toxin once they die, so I took out the Blastomussa piece and dipped vinegar into their opening, and seems that work really well and to no effect to the corals.... obviously I can't do that to all....

I found a bay snail today on a zoa. I only have 2 nassarius and had 2 turbo snails that only lived a few weeks. I have blue leg hermit crabs and dont know if perhaps they attacted them or why they didnt last long. I also added a astrea that died as well. The crabs didint take ove rthe shells or anything. My problem is I added a half bag of caribe sea live sand that has lots of tiny dead snails so if i had not of seen this snail moving on one of my zoas I would have just thought It was one of those. Now I am worried about having this sand in my tank but its been in there about 7 months since I set up the tank. Most of my sand is just arognite so there is no way to just replace it all, without possibly causing a recycle and screw up my tank. What would you suggest? Maybe picking through the sand and try to remove these or do you think this is something I need to worry about? I have no idea what kind of baby snail that was but I guess I should dispose of it since it was on my zoa anyway and not knowing what it is. It is dark but not black and has a cone shape and has a sharp point at the end of it.

Depending on your tank, I smash the. Good when they near the base of any of my corals. I'm thinking the only way you could never have these is dry rock start and dip quarantined every coral. That sounds like a huge amount of work. Smashing them up every few months is easy, but u can't get them all. I just live with the bastards, might get some bumble beensnails
@prsnlty64 жыл бұрын
My LR is covered in them. I even went from a 125 to a 180, busted them all treated the rocks quarantined and then put him in the 180 and they're back in full force. They started 9 years ago from a torch coral. I never saw one until then nor did I know what it was. I did break it and had my torch in quarantine for a month with no sight of anything else on it I put it in my tank. From then on I've had this plague.

Thesevermon are so bad, going to replace the sand and rock. They are so small, but their webs are everywhere. Their slime is so bad it runs down the glass durning water changes. Plug up socks, have to change 1 or 2 times a day. They came on a snail purchased online. The slime balls up on top of sand, encapsulates fish waste. What a mess. How do I get them off my snails without killing them?

Hey so I just bought some of your chaeto. I put it in my sump and I have a 36 W grow light on it and also an LED strip light that is used on my old 29 gallon tank a few feet above sump that I leave on so when I work on it I have ample light. I went to work leaving both lights because I want this stuff to grow and thrive obviously, and I heard they need a good amount of light. I came home from work 7 hours later and noticed about 1/4 of it is starting to turn a pale white. Any idea why? I assume it is bleaching but I don't think there is too much light for the chaeto. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

no one nowhere has a pest free tank if they claim they do they are lying plain and simple, and are hypocrites for even trying to ridicule others. the hatred that people spew out and hide behind they're keyboards is profound. we live in a time where the entire wealth of the worlds knowledge is in our hands. yet people are so ridiculously stupid that you're more likely to get hit by someone texting while driving than a drunk driver. there is an epidemic of stupid in the world today. and God help you if you misspell a word.

People who jump on mistakes in a judgmental way betray their unwillingness to try new things. There's little leeway, clearly, in saltwater tanks, but that doesn't mean people have to be perfect. Any pet will get sick, no matter how well cared for. Shame makes it more difficult to teach and learn, hurting the hobby in the end.
