@Random_Person.-.2 жыл бұрын
@lopez You’re missing my point. My biggest issue is that his depression was used as a joke by the writers and how quickly it was resolved. In the scenes showing Thors depression it isn’t framed in a way that it’s tragic but rather it’s used for comedy. The audience isn’t supposed to feel sorry for him, they’re meant to laugh at him. Also rather than him working throughout the movie to better himself mentally, it is played off as a joke until he meets his mother and it’s instantly resolved after one conversation.

I figured he went past that part to acceptance. I didn't think he would just give up his position. However I do know he struggles with the concept of never being worthy. Without his hammer providing that constant confirmation, and his first true test of leadership showing how bad he failed, I could see a psychosis occurring. Thor is a college jock who graduated from an ivy league school who was supposed to inherit his father's business. Then the market crashed and he is bankrupt. What man wouldn't say fuck it for a sec.

@@Agbahizzal I understand, but it would have made more sense to go further than breaking down. Like imagine a Thor completely isolated, like Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi. Angry, sees no one, maybe blames everyone except himself (knowing he is most to blame). Perhaps he developed a distrust to humanity (maybe the refugees were treated like invaders?). That would have been just as powerful as the lame gamer-arc. He would still have broken down at his mother's side, and felt that joy in weilding Mjolnir. An awakened, angry Thor on his A game with Stormbreaker would be too powerful and would steal the limelight away from Steve and Tony. Kinda like why Vision was incapacitated very early on in IW as he too would have been OP and would have presented issues for Thanos in IW. I do like how Drinker changed the 'take' on him, but he did get redemption in the end. If a Thor fan from comics, sure, I would be pissed. But I'm not. I told my eleven-year-old brother to write an essay about this movie (quarantine and he was bored). He had to tell me his favorite parts and his least favorite parts. As well as his favorite characters and least favorite characters. He told me his favorite part was the fight. His least favorite part was how they treated Thor. That it would have been funny if it was just for a few scenes, but that he should have worked it off to be the old Thor. His favorite character is Iron Man and his least favorite character was “Captain Woman” (he forgot her name, but I think that fits pretty well). @427Arbok4 жыл бұрын
One thing that is understated about Thor's arc is that he did have a unique role in enabling Thanos. Had he not destroyed Asgard and defeated Hela, Thanos might've never gotten the Tesseract and the snap might've never happened. Not only this, but this all happened under Thor's watch-he finally takes the reigns, and everything goes more horribly wrong than it had ever done before. Though it might not have been especially his fault, that doesn't mean Thor might not convince himself that it was. Emphasized correctly, this could be taken to produce the sort of broken version of Thor we saw in Endgame, although I think a more serious take would've been appropriate. Otherwise, however, it isn't entirely unreasonable for Thor to think that his father had been wrong to entrust him with the fate of Asgard, especially if he interpreted events in a particular way. Unfortunately, what I'm describing is an idealized version of what was shown, not the actuality of it, and it's pretty clear that Fat Thor was a decision made primarily for comedy and not to explore the damage these failures did to him mentally.
@shieldwallofdragons4 жыл бұрын
427Arbok you make a good point...it did happen under his watch...but lest we forget it was hella that caused it all...he destroyed Asgard to prevent her spreading throughout the galaxy as we know she would have...it was his and his peoples sacrifice he should be remembered for. I would’ve loved to see that the reason thor is disconnected from the world is because hes so focused on keeping his kingdom running. What he absorbs himself into isnt self pity or drink but into the guilt of not being able to protect his people, and his duty as king to do so. Keep him in a more morose mood more of the time, have him be depressed, but let him be stoic about it. Then when he’s around his friends some of his playfulness and goofynees comes out a bit more throughout the film. Imagine instead of one of the many gag scenes we got of thor being fat and depressed, that time was put into more meaningful scenes, like one between tony and thor talking about stepping away from the fight to protect something they cannot lose (tony’s daughter and thor’s kingdom). The two dont have a lot of dialogue in many of the movies anyways so this could have fleshed out their relationship a bit more, and enriched both of their character arcs.

Politics aside, she is the only other Asgardian we know of that survived that has extensive military experience. She could even have begun rebuilding her old unit, breeding new pegasi and training the female Asgardians to become warriors in their own right. Maybe they could even have Wakanda help out with rebuilding and fortifying New Asgard, with technological trade being the primary reason for the alliance. He was messing around with the water instead of actually fighting during the end of Endgame. Ridiculous. But what the directors said kind of makes sense. Hulk being afraid to fight makes no sense, when he has literally fought gods in this same timeline and thor throwing out 10 years of development from just one loss, when he had literally just killed thanos, is confusing, as he should already understand that you can't save everyone, but doing your damndest still counts for something. An idea that could add to his story. Thor has lost everything, his hammer, his family, his home, and his kingdom. The armies of earth never fought thanos, they actively hindered the avengers with the accords from civil war. Have Thor create a country on a frozen island. Have the entire island be surrounded by an unending storm. Have arcs of lightning decimate anything which comes anywhere close and the avengers need to struggle to find a method to enter where you find a brutal society based off of the warriors of Valhalla. Every warrior preparing to fight and die in a final war. Thor is training an army and is preparing for his own potential demise from jormungander. The wall of storm is brought down when he is told there is hope. He agrees to fight alongside the avengers on the premise that after thanos is undone, he can use the infinity gauntlet to bring back Asgard. The thing is that he doesn’t plan to just stop at Asgard. He aims for bringing back EVERYTHING he has lost because if everyone else can have their reward and their happy endings, why shouldn’t he. This we have a Thor who is working with the avengers based on revenge but he won’t just give up the stones after the fight and his desperation will make him far more dangerous. We end seeing him raise everyone from asgard. An interesting possibility would be that it has complications. His sister hela gains rulership of the dead, his family is raised without memories of him, etc. basically you have a new arc of Thor finally regaining everything that he lost but it not being how he wanted would.

I'll open with the fact that I still haven't seen Endgame yet but I know the plot. Thank you for actually remembering what happened to the character and his arc and growth up until Endgame. That new version sounds leagues better and fits that arc. This is the thing about long-running stories with varying writers, internal consistency. I'm still stumped how he just ups and gives Valkyrie the title. As another comment mentioned, he gives up being the ruler because he was a drunken loser unfit to rule to someone else who was also a drunken loser who ran away after losing her friends in a major battle as well. How is she more fit to rule than he is? It all just sounds like they gave up and changed characters to fit the story they wanted to tell as well as set up the state of things going forward.

Before he leaves, he takes storm breaker and beheads Valkyrie so we never have to see Tessa Thompson ever again in the MCU.

Absolutely way better Thor with your version. One thing I had hoped for in Infinity War, is the fight against Thanos, where instead of Thor throwing the Axe right at Thanos, who for unknown reasons can't stop it with a fully powered gauntlet, I wanted a brutal fight like Hulk and Thanos, where Thanos end up dodging Thor's axe, grabing Thor by his neck or something, and starting to give a snark reply about being better and smarter than Thor, only then to have the Axe return to Thor brying itself deep into his back. Then from that Point things happens like before. It would have been a minute longer, but way more powerful and satisfying. Or it might just be me.
