In the conclusion, I would have loved for Thanos to get a hold of the space stone. Then, instead of going straight for the gauntlet, Captain Marvel charges at him, ready to fly straight through his body. Then, with a wave of his hand, Thanos opens a portal right in front of him. Captain Marvel flies through accidentally and she's teleported to a galaxy on the other side of the universe. This way, she’d have about 2 minutes of screen time.

The poor writing of women in that scene is simultaneously sexist (no time to write female roles well, huh?) and at the same time, it's political pandering to women. Basically they created the worst of both worlds. Trying to come up with explanations, this is what I got: Scarlet Witch: "I came back from being dusted; to me, I just saw the love of my life die. I really want to find and kill Thanos for that. I almost already finished him off by myself. And now the ship's cannons are offline, so I really could finish him. But instead, I'm going to back up Captain Marvel, who I don't know, even though she seems to need no help." Mantis: "I'm also back, and I'm the most recent Guardian of the Galaxy. I haven't got much fighting ability, I use empath abilities, like when I read emotions, or help calm people so they can sleep. Now, instead of fighting with people who I know, I am going to run off alone, with the fighting strength of an average person, to back up Captain Marvel, an alien I don't know." Wasp: "I just came back to life, haven't even met Doctor Strange before, and don't know what Infinity Stones are. For some reason I flew through one of these portals after Strange or one of his underlings told me to, onto a battlefield. Then, instead of staying near Ant Man, my partner, I've decided to hunt down the most powerful woman on the battlefield to back her up instead of people who really do need help." Valkyrie: "We just doubled the remaining Asgardian population with the reverse snap, so I came to keep it that way! Now, instead of actually fighting with Thor or my other fellow Asgardians, I decided to find Captain Marvel and provide absolutely unnecessary aid while people I actually have close relationships with might be dying and need me." Shuri: "I'm the Wakandan technology expert, basically on the same level as Tony Stark but without battle armor. I'm going to leave all my people behind to back up Captain Marvel, someone who I barely know, even though I was basically their queen for the past five years and they're the most likely people to die in battle without help." About Thor, I think the movie did a good job at having each hero cope with their loss in different ways. Cap works to help others recover. Black Widow distracts herself with work. Hawkeye seeks vengeance. Hulk/Banner finds true peace for the first time. Stark ends his billionaire playboy antics and settles down to start a family. But Thor takes it the hardest, as he has the greatest sense of guilt, dooming half the universe to death due to a moment of hubris; he becomes a recluse, hiding in his little home playing video games rather than learning to live in the world he shares responsibility in creating. It's only after a heart-to-heart with his mother that he is finally able to cope with this and learn to function in society again. It's played for laughs, yes, but Thor's predicament is easily the most heartbreaking, and he has the strongest character arc in the film learning how to finally cope with his failure.

So for me, this pretty much ends the MCU. I am not at all a fan of the PC/SJW culture, don't get me wrong, and I strongly suspect it will have a detrimental effect in the end, if it hasn't already. But this story was so good, the characters overall were so well-done, the BBEG so well written (Thanos), that I don't care to see another one. It would be like a group of fans writing a sequel of novels to The Lord of the Rings. The original (and the Hobbit) were so good that I could not care less what happens in Middle Earth after the passing of Sauron and the breaking up of the Fellowship. Not perfect mind you, but the good far outweighed the bad. Which unfortunately Marvel didn't manage to top or even match with Endgame. Endgame is riddled with plot holes, inconsistencies and plot contrivances, it had some good moments but overall it's average at best, unfortunately. if you watched Mauler's stream you would know that he feels this way over Endgame too, so how is he shilling if states the faults of another movie in the MCU ?
@XBullitt16X5 жыл бұрын
@harrythebarry ooof that's a really bad take you got there mate. lemme guess you're one of those people that says Star Wars is for kids. Nevertheless if a movie is written well enough and is enjoyable enough, regardless of age almost anyone should be able to enjoy it. Not to mention, the reason I brought up Endgame was worse that infinity war wasn't to justify anything, just to prove the point that MauLer isn't a shill. He criticizes movies as he sees fit, not because someone is paying him to espouse a certain opinion or that he is a diehard fan of the MCU and think every MCU movie is perfect. He has movies he likes and movies he doesn't, it's as simple as that. Again, I will reiterate, liking a movie you do not doesn't make that person a shill.

Then it's just the convenience of Stark having nanotechnology and being a genius to figure it out. And tbh it still probably isn't as protective as the proper gauntlet, since Hulk's snap damaged his whole arm and shoulder, while Thanos' snap only did his hand. Further, Tony's (comparatively) simple snap of dusting Thanos' forces (far less than half the universe) killed him. But yeah it's annoying how they brushed past that. Honestly if they just hinted/showed that they just used the time travel more to let them prepare, it would have been ok.

It doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with modern feminism. I’ve been to the movie theater with friends, two of them girls, who are real Marvel fans, who take this stuff seriously. Both of them have said that they would have loved a scene like this when they were younger. Not everything that has anything to do with the modern left and feminism is bad.

RamsesTheStone 20 years ago, Ellen Ripley duct taped a machine gun and flame thrower together (twice), do go destroy the horde of aliens and single handedly fought the queen in a Mech suit. It fits this conflict because it’s ultimately about individual successes rather than the collective success. Heroes lead the collective to success but the stories are about that individual doing better than the rest. There have been and always will be the Sarah Connors and Ellen Ripleys, female heroes - and incidentally, T2 manages to squeeze in some discourse on the importance of femininity as a strength, which is what’s missing in female characters these days... But the scene in question was more about female empowerment rather than tie empowerment _of_ females. It’s ideological, and so, an affront to the viewer, that wants to see team work that’s a little less cringe.
@radrno75 жыл бұрын
@@RamsesTheStone Like Mike said, 30 years ago, we would've had all of these characters well introduced, developed and built for this moment in contribution to the story, and without making it so obvious that they're there because of their gender. Now... there has to be an obbligatory scene for a certain public, independent if it makes sense, if it's well done or if it's good. In terms of superhero movies, I can understand little girls needing more aspiring female models, but don't be Ghostbusters(2016), don't force it on the movie, much less on the public, because instead of contributing to the whole "female empowerment", you're just reinforcing the idea that women need blatant appeal to be represented, as if they weren't capable of doing the same as others so they have to take time of everyone just for themselves. Not to mention you're just doing it to please certain audiences, doing that only damages the film as a work of art. If you're not going to bother doing something actually meaningful, it's better that you just don't do it.

I think Endgame was a good film, if a bit predictable. It ran more like a fond farewell for the cast and crew where everyone got to have their moment and say their goodbyes. It was so much fan service, but we were rewarded with a climactic battle. IMHO, when you introduce time travel, you've officially jumped the shark. Plus, there's no real villain for half this film. They're just running around through time, bumping into their past selves and reliving the glory days. A nice, final bow, but lacking in style and all a bit inevitable in the way it plays out.

I think the worst thing about this movie is also the thing that makes it so enjoyable to longtime fans: the sheer anount of fanservice. Half of the movie was pure fanservice moments, which of course as a fan you love to see but it's like the story took a backseat. It feels like they came up with a bunch of epic moments they thought fans would love and then tried to write the story around those moments instead of writing the story and working those moments into it.
@bemusedbandersnatch20692 жыл бұрын
I think they did ok all things considered. In particular the fanservice aspect is why I forgive them the time travel plotline. It's not just a way to get them out of the plot corner they're stuck in, it's actually a clever way to revisit the franchise before this arc comes to a close and to work in lots and lots of fanservice. "That is America's ass" for instance. It's also an interesting way to look at the ways the characters have changed and grown as the series went on. Cap has adjusted to the modern era, Thor gets a poignant moment with his mom, Tony gets one with his dad now that he is a dad, etc. That makes it more reflecting on the past than marching to the future which is why it kills the momentum, but I think this movie needed that because it's the culmination of so many things. Plus it's just pure comic book fun to watch them fight themselves and hop timelines. You couldn't get away with that in a regular movie but they are well past the point of slowing things down for newcomers so they can just go for it.
@Salta0monte5 жыл бұрын
The movie had great moments - the poignant moments were the best - but felt a bit of a mess overall. They absolutely raced through a huge amount of story in the opening segment, pre-time travel, and it just felt like half the movie up to that point had been left on the cutting room floor. And they totally did the dirty on Thor, not happy with that at all. I watched a lot of the press & interviews building up to this, and had the impression Hemsworth wasn't happy. Now I see why. Apart from Brie Larsen being a total non-event (she's still rubbish even in the 5 minutes she's in the movie), every worry that people had about Endgame leading into full on SJW Marvel came to pass. I'll be finding other things to spend my time and money on from now on.

I personally really dislike Captain Marvel in it. Stark's death was only nessessary cause she got overconfident and arrogant and let Thanos blindside her. This isnt a problem in itself, but the issue is that she feels nothing for being responsible for the death of a father. Thor went through tremendous guilt for letting Thanos win, and at least his excuse for playing with Thanos is more reasonable. He becomes a slob because Thor is a better man since Ragnarok. Before, he would react to his constant failures with childish rage or reflection. He's more mature now, but that also means he takes all the failure on his shoulders. But none of that with Captain Marvel ofc. If she felt bad for letting Tony die because of her arrogance, it might have finally given her something resembling a human, sympathetic flaw and sparked inner conflict. @JakkFrost1 Жыл бұрын
One problem with the time travel was that it actually lowered the stakes, and thus lowered the tension. Like you said, it's supposed to be a race against time, but once they were in the past, they had all the time in the world. Not literally of course, but they weren't racing against Thanos, they were only racing against the time when they knew exactly where the stones were, and really the reality and mind stones were the only ones with a severely limited time frame within which they knew their locations. The rest of the stones were in their relative positions for years, centuries at least, for two of them. Even after they'd gotten the stones, though, they had lots of time. They could have stopped for a bite to eat, taken in a movie or three, played chess, gotten a good night's sleep, anything. They could have waited a few _years_ before triggering the time machine to bring them back. There was no rush to get back once they had the stones in their possession.

In an ideal situation this should contain none of that and so even 15 minutes of exposure to this toxicity can be argued as ruining it. Because it DOES! Not only from the identity politics angle but also because OP characters are destructive to the story in much the same way time travel and character resurrection is, like Critical Drinker outlined in the video. It just destroys any impact anything has in the story. "Nothing's permanent anymore." "Never fear, Captain Marvel will save the day. There's no danger here, no jeopardy." Etc... But, from the perspective of "Whew, that could have been sooooo much worse. It could have been Captain Marvel everywhere, all the time Captain Marvel." I suppose this is less consolation than it should be, but hey, rejoice in the crumbs we do get? And from my perspective, this is still the single best piece of news that I've heard. The two moment s where we got to see original hulk during the time jump we're too great moments and just showed how much the movie missed having him in it. It's interesting how the film nerfed it's two most powerful characters only to bring back Captain marvel in time to single-handedly destroy a ship and fight Thanos to a standoff.

I didn't get why Thanos in the final battle was still so powerful that he could take on Cap, Iron Man and Thor with absolute ease without ANY of the infinity stones. In IW it seemed like he actually had to put effort in to beat Iron Man, who also managed to make him bleed. He had 4 infinity stones at this point as well. Then when he had all 6 stones, Thor still managed to overcome one of his blasts and deliver what could have been a killing blow. He should NOT have been able to beat Cap, IM and Thor the way he did in Endgame, especially since Scarlett Witch came in and made him look like a little bitch just a few minutes later. Basically implies she's more powerful than everyone combined.
@elpollodelamuerte5 жыл бұрын
Infinity War made him up to be a beatable threat even with the stones and he only succeeded by a tiny margin. In this I just can't buy him being a threat. Granted the put him up against weakened heros but there are other heros nearby who can take him. I will ignore this as a sequel and leave it as it's own movie.
@Trinsicity5 жыл бұрын
@@elpollodelamuerte That's what I mean, he just seemed really inconsistent in his power level. Even his motivations looked inconsistent when all his life he has been pursuing this goal of "balancing the universe" yet he flips this completely and decides to destroy EVERYTHING just because the Avengers are trying to stop him? As if no other race or group had ever tried to stop him in the past? I didn't like him at all in this movie yet thought he was amazing in IW.

Because Thanos in IW was so powerful he knew he would easily win - he just played with his food you can say. No need for an armor etc. Russos even stated that in an interview. Thonas in IW was more on a journey etc. In Endgame he is extra motivated - its personal for him and people like Thor are not as powerful as they were before. And some peopel nearly won against him - like Scarlett witch.

He beat beat hulk easily in IW and hulk is one of the strongest. He always seemed to toy around with them. Here he is desperate, he knows that they get the gauntlet its over. I agree. The Final battle was too short. I wanted the end battle to be like Return of the King. ie In Final battle, War Machine did absolutely nothing, again! Groot wasn't in the battle. Rocket and Hulk did very very little. Drax, Falcon, and Winter Soldier killed only one noob . Nick Fury who started it all was visually phoned in at the end. So basically all the Secondary Male characters did little to nothing. However, ALL the female characters, Primary and Secondary stole the show. I know the MCU is already going the SJW route, I'm just glad I'm done with it.

After seeing Endgame for the second time I must say that out of all the films which didn't need to split the last part I'd love the Endgame to be split in two with extended battle as a last part. It was epic, but too short. I'd love to see more comeback reactions like Cap and Bucky, even a quick look of aknowledgement, anything. Bucky got dusted in front of Steve, so Steve should be the first person Bucky sees after crossing the portal.

The biggest bone I have to pick with this film is Black Widows 'sacrifice'. To obtain the Soul Stone 'you must lose that which you love', yet neither Hawkeye or Black Widow actually does this, instead choosing to fight over sacrificing themselves for the other, thus negating the premise of the exchange. If they'd have had Hawkeye realise that his only option was to let go of Black Widow when they were dangling off the cliff instead of Black Widow breaking his grip and plunging to her own suicide it would have made more sense. But instead Hawkeye ends up with the Soul Stone without actually making the sacrifice that was required.

THIS. This is someone who understood Thor. He was just a guy that had the deity of a god thrust upon him since birth, never did he stop to think of a different life for himself, it wasn't until he really lost everything that meant to him and he finally got his revenge, he realized that he had nothing else to live up to. He tried to keep his selfrighteous pride by acting like he was the one who won, when in fact he lost a long time ago, and deep down he knows that but won't admit it after all he's been through. That is a real person. THAT... is good writing.

It would have been boss to have a previously scared Hulk come out to throw down with Thanos. Dr. Strange used some really cool abilities in his first fight with Thanos, but here he was relegated to the sidelines. Man, put that no-good Captain Overpowered on water duty somehow. I’m sure she’s OP enough for that. They just had too many characters on screen to do them all justice, and I accept that. That doesn’t mean I think it was done as well as it could have been.
