How much horsepower does the Explorer v8 have? Will it work in a 2000 ranger 4x4?
@PureCountryof914 жыл бұрын
Depends on version. But 215hp is stock. However, the torque is better than any v6 that the ranger had and it's a *factory* setup, you take everything out from the engine bays, toss the ranger stuff and put the explorer stuff in. Watch the rubber/plastic tubes for vac. They're probably cracked, and leaking. That'll effect everything. Trust me. I'd know. I have one almost done.
@DylanC8284 жыл бұрын
225-235 hp and 280-300ftlbs stock. You’re lucky for having a 00. The 99 and 00 4x4 rangers are the easiest to swap. You need to find a 99-01 5.0 explorer or mountaineer, get the complete donor vehicle as that will make your life so much easier. I found mine running and driving for 400 bucks. Then everything is plug and play, take the motor mounts from the explorer and they bolt into your frame, the ecm from the explorer, get the pats tuned out at a dealership or have it paired with your key, and just drop the motor in. If you’re using the auto trans from the explorer it’s bolt it, if you want to go manual like I am then an m5odr2 trans from an f150 will fit once you slot out the crossmember bolt holes about 1/5” and use the ranger master cylinder. Ford used the same fittings for everything. Easy peasy. Then bypass the park safety switch so the computer will allow the motor to start. To make the ranger gauges work, you only have to swap a couple pins and they will read correctly as they are the same panels between them, look up any missing info at the ranger forums on google. Good luck

Now, I’m 16, this is a long ways away but when I picked out my first vehicle at 14 I just wanted a work truck, I couldn’t afford an f250(cousin bought it for 5k). So I bought my ranger, 2003 ranger xlt, pushrod 3.0 v6, automatic(unfortunately), with 78k miles for 1600. Pretty dang good deal being honest. But I’m to used to this thing. It and my dads manual escort zx2 are way, way to slow anymore. So I’m looking at some swaps for the ranger. The 302 sounds great and I love the low end torque, a friend of my fathers swapped a 302 from a mustang rather than an explorer. I have similar plans. I bet I can find a 302 in good condition at a junkyard for about 500 bucks. I read the 5 speed manual tranny from a 4.6 f150 will fit with a 302, do you know if this is a fact? With all that said I’m hoping for a camshaft(unsure of how aggressive I’m looking). I still want peak torque below 4K rpm but I want power past 5200. I’m looking for 280hp/310 torque at the wheels.

I did a 99 Explorer drivetrain into a 98 Ranger. Believe it or not, emissions, EVAP etc all work and I don't have a check engine light(I did before I added O2 sensors, so the CEL logic works).
