If work in Jaya One, sandwich between MRT Phileo Damansara and LRT Asia Jaya though it's quite far, and Batu Caves only have KTM. PJ have quite reliable with free buses and paid buses by Selangor State. Though the driver prefer her solitude and spaces in her own car, it's quite okay considering the length of her drive. In KL, if your office was near to public trans than it lucky, yes you may be tired physically, but the money and time saved is incomparable. But KL jammed is bearable tough. Choose your poison, pay expensive rent but near to public transport and save time. Or live far from public transport but ready to caught in jammed and paid numerous toll and parking fee. I'm a avid PT user, in KL I can go quite anywhere as KL is very compact and linked to major area.

All I hear are excuses to use the cars, and contributions towards the traffic jam... I had lived in Batu Caves, and I endured for years going to my classes back in the 2000s at Universiti Malaya which is a kilometer or more so than Jaya One. And I only have the LRT as an option. No problem in waking up early though, that's just excuses. But yeah, convincing even my car-centric friends to use the public transportation in Klang Valley itself is challenging. However, I can give a little bit of consideration for cars with families especially small children. Solo adult drivers whining about traffic jams, not so much.

I think you don't live and work in the Klang Valley. For me, the time it takes for me to get to my office in PJ from Puchong Jaya by driving without traffic is 15 minutes, at rush hour is about 45 minutes. But if I take public transport, doesn't matter when, it takes about 1.5 - 2 hours and that is subject to whether is bus is on schedule and if the LRT is working etc etc. Just wake up, most people driving don't want to drive. If we can walk or take public transport we will. But Malaysia has made the Klang Valley into a car-centric city. And we are paying the price while carmakers are laughing to the bank

The unsustainable way cities are designed needs a new shift in thinking. The old way where people commute to work is unsustainable. There must be new solutions such as bringing work closer to where people live. One way is to integrate businesses within any new township developments so that gradually we can be closer to our workplaces. The old way of needing to be in the central business districts is unproductive with the availability of new technologies. Developers and city planners must start decentralising businesses from the city central.

The Park and Rides are never enough, because Malaysia keeps pushing for car sales and highways and making cars more convenient. There is never enough parking in at the stations, many resort ro give up and drive to work and many more illegally double/triple park by the roads. This is the price to pay in a car-centric city design, so the auto industry can laugh to the bank. 90% of people on the road during rush hour don't want to drive, but there is no other convenient method for them. There needs to be more steps to make the surrounding cities of KL in the Klang Valley be more walkable and better feeder buses. Once every 30 minutes or an hour is not nearly convenient enought compared to more developed countries at 10 or 15 minutes frequency.

Public transport is not preferred by some because this group of people cannot tolerate the crowds. And often, either the place of your residence or your work are not well accessible to public transport. And yeah, Klang Valley area might have good public transport, but the sidewalk access is still very bad and many disconnected link which makes unpleasant walking experience. You would often then rely on private hailing service such as Grab to connect to public transport... whats the point o that, if you can drive all the way from home to work.

COE doesn't work for Malaysia cos the country is big and there are rural areas that people might need to get to. If you want to reduce traffic in KL, better use ERP make sure using the local KTM/LRT/MRT cost way only fraction of what you would pay for the ERP. Of course, the public transport has to be improved to make it more reliable, more extensive, make it easier for people to park their cars near the train station and take the train into the city centre. Entice people by giving free parking or by paying a nominal parking fee if they take the train. Also link people to the suburban train stations by having reliable bus services that go into all the housing estates to shuttle people to the train station nearest to them.

What more does the traffic in Metro Manila, Philippines?....... Same problems with KL and Jakarta, cheap prices of automobiles and lack of accessibility for public transport. Though we have raised the taxes and prices for automobiles here in the PH, the demand is still growing yet, the public transport still lacks and is far away from the likes of Singapore. That is why I really hope that the PH government would build more amd better public transport not only trains, but also buses as the land transport (aside from trains) is really bad. I also hope that in the future, the taxes and prices of automobiles will be expensive as like with SG that imposes expensive COE for automobiles. I really believe that way will help solve the traffic congestion in the Philippines. I also agree with the work from home for many jobs. Just provide a space, a room that can be transformed into an office area similar to what they have in their offices.

prices for cars in Indonesia is 2nd highest in ASEAN just behind Singapore, but still the traffic jam is so bad. so frustrating. the only way out to solve this problem is by increasing the private vehicle tax (to the point where it becomes way less beneficial to purchase a private vehicle) and extend the accessibility of the public transport. but i have to say, the public transport is getting better tho in Jakarta. hopefully in the near future the traffic jam issue will be significantly eased.

Who says car prices is cheap here in Indonesia? It is already expensive, second only to singapore and among the most expensive countries to own a car. Still people buy cars. On average, middle class to upper middle class people here in Indonesia own 2-3 cars. The govt already made cars harder to buy yet we just seems to not give a damn about it and still buy cars anyway.

And consider Cambodia have many deathly traffic accident throughout the years. Malaysians should not complain about the traffic because Jakarta is far more worse. Not only that, the motorcycles are just maniacs (not all but since Indonesia has a population of 200M it’s like all motorcycles are crazy, they are everywhere and they are the biggest threat). Just see what I mean by watching dash cam compilation videos, the motorcycles will usually run away if they hit you.. So Malaysians, don’t whine about the traffic in our country. The gridlock is still ok compared to the gridlock in our neighboring country and most drivers and motorcyclists are fairly good here I’m partially Indonesian too so I know and I don’t make up stories Hope Malaysia and Indonesia will be brothers forever.
