The Drone Police Paid Me A Visit For Flying My Drone. DJI Mini 2 (The Dread Drone)
Today I paid a visit to a company that I used to drive for every once in a while, it used to be NFT Transport, but it's changed names quite a few times since then.
The site manager didn't mind me flying the Dread Drone at first, but then changed his mind and kicked off about it.
Please enjoy the video.

Strange how the police will physically respond to a false complaint and interrogate someone carrying out a fully legal activity, but if you get burgled at home the best you can hope for is a crime number over the phone to make an insurance claim.

Astonishing isn’t it. Get your car stolen, someone vandalises your property, tries to break in, or assaults you, and you may struggle to get the police to visit. But fly a 249g drone totally legally, and they are out like a shot. It’s madness. Officers were semi decent but police resources have to be deployed correctly. However officer asks all sorts of irrelevant questions and seems to be trying to put a free citizen off carrying out his lawful activity. He keeps saying “I wouldn’t be doing my job” making enquiries about your drone. He isn’t doing his job- he’s questioning a person carrying out a perfectly legal activity and disturbing a member of the public with no signs or suspicion of any illegal activity. That is not his job!

Why oh why does flying a drone always cause a police response but have your house ransacked by burglars and frequently it seems there's no police response due to 'lack of resources'. Large companies appear to have far more clout with the police than ordinary members of the public. It's a strange order of priorities that drones (and photography in general), both legal activities, are given a higher priority than robbery which causes serious trauma.

Great interaction? It was more like an interrogation! If someone is doing a lawful activity there is no need whatsoever for the police to go on a fishing expedition for personal information! And then to give a lecture about what you can and can't do with a drone to someone who is licensed. These constables need to be reminded they only exist because we pay our taxes. Their function is to protect & serve, if a crime is committed. I think some people actually want a police state?!

Why couldn't the cop just be honest at the start? Confirming why he was there wouldn't have exactly been tricky. I'd be much less inclined to speak to a cop who started off lying to me anyway. The police should spend most of their time after call outs like this talking to the people who called them out and putting them right. Asking why you were flying there and about hazards... they have to have the last word don't they. Ok they weren't too bad but they still spent too much time investigating something that was completely legal.

Those were the days......

Wow. During the 70's and 80's I hitchhiked the length and breadth of the country. The only time I ever had a lift from the Police was to get me off a dual-carriageway I had wandered onto. It used to be a great way to travel though, back then. Taking advantage by wearing my Army kit made sure I hardly waited more than ten minutes anywhere. In uniform, I'd get lifts and sandwiches and tea, offers of daughters' hand in marriage, requests to come round and 'sort out' a lazy boyfriend, lol and thanks. Lots of thanks. I don't think squaddies are even allowed to wear their uniform out in public when not at work nowadays. I remember the forbidding of the wearing of uniforms in public when off-duty, back in the seventies. It was the threat of active IRA cells on the mainland that put paid to it. I remember I saw it as a small, but nonetheless significant loss of freedom in the fight against terrorism. Besides, I had to start buying train tickets because the same threat made people not want to give lifts as much.

They cannot help themselves can they. Gotta give directives when none required. It is not illegal fly a drone at all unless the CAA has put in a no fly zone that stops it from flying anyway. Just because they don’t want you to fly does not make any difference as they do not control the air space. I’m sure the police could find real criminals to try and harass if they really wanted something to do rather than respond to a call that someone is doing a totally legal activity. It’s about time the chiefs tell the call operators that is not viable to attend. They very quickly did that for burglaries, they only attend if it is in progress now. Why attend when nothing illegal is taking place. Really need to think before they send out constables for someone taking pictures and vids and flying drones.

PJ you're NOT brain dead mate, not one bit. I could swear while I worked with the Indian High Commission I was in Mumbai, but I was in Australia it turns out. I have memories of both but one particular I swear I was in India but everyone says "No Lee, that was when we worked in Aus". It in involved a romance. I should be able to remember that, she was a fit Indian girl named Salma 🤣 Police officers were excellent, did their job perfectly and held a lot of respect. Loved the handshake, you can tell a lot about someone when it comes to a handshake.

They should tell the police NOT to respond to these calls where people are acting totally lawfully and switchboard operators should be trained to advice people that he is acting lawfully and they won't be responding to a NON CRIMINAL matter and wasting police time and taxpayers money when they could use this time productively and investigate crimes instead of the easy option of giving a crime number and telling you to claim on your insurance.

Exactly. We used to have an obnoxious neighbour who would phone the police for 6 year olds playing on the green area in our cul de sac. They knew him and what he was like yet they still came out every time he called them. All the parents used to sit back and laugh.

@@johnseabrook1703 Asking questions is sort of what the police have to do to determine that no crime has been committed . PJ is sensible as he is on the right side of the law . In my experience ( mostly ) I find that co operating with the police knowing I havent done anything wrong works best all round . They are satisfied and I am on my way much quicker . Only had a problem with an arsehole copper once many years ago and wish I had reported him . Alot of people commenting are just plain anti police .

@@scooby1992 I wonder why so many people are “ anti police “. The last two years have opened many peoples eyes, the way innocent, law abiding people were treated during dodgy lockdown rules extinguished any respect that the police had.

Although the two bobbies were nice and polite one of them tried to give the impression he was in charge of your drone flying and was in charge of legislation when in actual fact you didn't need to talk to him at all and he was in charge of nothing as the CAA are.

Your audits are brilliant PJ. The best auditors bring something unique to the table, and stand out for their own personal reasons and you're defo one of them. If Auditors and Auditing was a Premier League, you'd be like 3rd... don't be upset that's not bad though lol AB would be 1st, DJ Audits clear 2nd and right on AB's heels... You're the one they both need to watch out for though imo. 4th I'd go with PTTP. just outside the top four I'd say that dude who does the PINAC inspections, he's brilliant but still not top 4 material just yet lol there's many great auditors but I've named the ones that I like most 🙂
