Whenever there seems to be a drought in Hip Hop, that would be the perfect time to venture out and explore other genres or other artists within Hip Hop that are yet to be discovered, just as a way to extend my musical palette. That’s how I see it, though.

@@D.dot. Hey, that’s cool! For me, I ventured to rock/heavy metal, punk (a little bit) and R&B. I’ve listened to a couple of heavy metal bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden and Dark Throne. The albums were interesting but none of them really stuck with me until I’ve heard a HIM album. Now I’m more into melodic hard rock.

Maybe in the mainstream but as far as the underground is concerned hip hop is at it’s most balanced in a long time especially in terms of quality drops; from the west coast shit, to the straight trap shit, the melodic trap, the grimey east coast sound, the more laidback jazz rap projects, the rock rap fusions and everythin in between every space of underground hip hop has had a couple of quality releases so far this year

the problem is that you guys are not tapped in to who would be considered the "big dogs" anymore. megan thee stallion dropped an album a few months ago, you guys didn't review it. polo g has dropped two albums, you guys didn't review either. playboi carti dropped, but he doesn't make music you guys like, and you left the review to lowmid. you also left the jack harlow review to lowmid. didn't touch the rico nasty album. haven't touched any of the pooh shiesty records. have never touched an nba youngboy record. i don't love all of these rappers, but i can admit more than anyone that they are some of the biggest names in hip-hop right now. when i go on social media or talk to folks 18-25, these are the names i hear most. j. cole, drake and kendrick are the "big dogs" to you, but in reality, they're rappers who debuted a decade ago or more. when jay-z was a decade in, he had already returned from retirement at least once. when nas was a decade in, he'd dropped street's disciple. that's the point these guys are at now--they're not just gonna drop records to feed people, they take their time and make an impact when they want. in the meantime, a whole new era of rap stars has popped up. polo g had the number one record on the hot 100, the whole country! and that's not even touching international scenes that are getting Huge, like in latin america. i love you guys' channel because you talk about the hip hop you wanna talk about, and i love hearing about it. but i don't think you have your fingers on the pulse of hip-hop, whatever that means. of all the popular rap records that come out, you guys talk about maybe 25% of them. it's only natural, then, that it would feel dead to you

I understand your point, but do you seriously expect them to review a Pooh Shiesty record full of uncreative, generic trap rap? There isn’t anything to say about it. The review would last 5 minutes. This was a bit of a fruitless conversation considering it’s a little dated now, but I still appreciate the content from you guys! As for this year and hip hop it does feel a bit slow, especially compared to last year which surprisingly had plenty of dope releases throughout despite the pandemic. As for this hip hop drought, I’ve begun feeling there are 2 methods hip hop artists take when releasing music: either flood the market or pull back and only release every couple years. I think a lot of times artists that flood the market are trying to come up and get their name out their. This method has worked for griselda and other smaller names. Well established artists such as Kendrick, Kanye, or Danny wait a couple years bc they usually come with a fresh, new product, and this method also helps keep artists relevant longer than they possibly would be if they flooded the market (lil uzi comes to mind for me). As for the year being slow, I think this slow release period will change a lot in the second half of the year, as many artists are gearing up to release music.

Hip Hop is a youthful sport and when I say that I mean for artist and consumers. When I was in high school I was all over KZbin, Datpiff, and Myspace looking for artist. I knew everyone on the Freshman cover, I heard freestyles, interviews ETC. Now that I am in my 30s I dont have time for that shit lol. Present day I just know when the big guns are dropping like Drake Cole Kendrick and the og's like Hov Nas Ross or guys that arent young but not old either like Tyler, Cudi, Earl. Its really easy to not know who the younger guys are because you have more responsibilities and other things to do. What I do now is when I hear a younger guy on one of the respected names album then I will go check them out. The other day I heard a song from Cudi's album that had a rapper named Trippie Redd on there. So I went to check out his music, that dude has great music so no I am checking for him.

@alexander harvey not really though. He hasn't done anything in a decade and most just throw him in the "should've stayed in the mid 2000s" category of hip hop like DJ Whoo Kid. No one remembers these dudes

@@SX1995able he released his last mixtape in 2016. He's always been more of a mixtape kind of rapper, Banks has never spit a bad verse, if you only follow the charts and what's popular you'll miss out on a lot of great music. Maybe it is Nostalgia, but those of us who grew up on G-Unit Know Banks was the best lyricist and is always worth the time and respect when he drops new music.

Theres plenty of huge hip hop albums coming out, a lot of them don't really interest me personally.

By a drought in hip hop , they must mean within their own niche rap community or something bc there has been a crop of rappers dropping solid projects this year

Y’all should review that Flee Lord x DJ Muggs album from earlier this year because it’s worth the time.
