Zara and Mike , they know protocol. Only two exceptions , each too self absorbed , each fighting for their own agenda ,MM stardom , money , H arry is fighting his own battle like a dog who won't part with a bone , both are entitled , egotistical, paranoid, delusional, nasty liars , that are in it for themselves , he's using her for his "satisfaction ", thinking with his todger , she's using him for his money. Connections , title . What a loving couple , never home , children never seen , no real friends , and alone . Grasping at anybody who they can grift off . It certainly does remind me of somebody. However, Wallis lived her final years lonely, lost her looks, was confined to a wheelchair and her money and life completely controlled by her carer. Very sad ending to such a luxurious high society life.

I don’t know much of anything about it, but I’m thinking that maybe (a big maybe) that the BRF kinda of looked after her after the Duke passed away. Queen Elizabeth was a very kind person - especially with family - no matter what feeling she had of her. QE was very kind to Wallis when her Uncle passed away at his funeral and was buried in Frogmore.

The Queen mother absolutely loath and detested her and blamed her totally for her husbands ill health and eventual early death. He was quiet, shy and timid with a dreadful stammer! The stress of becoming king took its toll on his health and he died at age 56 of heart problems. Neil, you can easily tell this happened in another age because the insurers paid up quickly without a full investigation. These days you’re more likely than not to have to take the insurers to court to get them to pay any claim at all.

I read about this as the alleged mastermind was the Duchess of Windsor for the insurance funds. The Queen Mother loathed her and allegedly did not allow anyone to help but who knows as you mention Neil. The Duchess died lonely and without much in France. Buried in Frogmore Cemetery with the Duke which was very kind of Queen Elizabeth 2nd.

I heard another story with respect to the so-called "robbery". I read that King Edward VIII had given Wallis Simpson Queen Alexandria's very exquisite set of emeralds, and MI 6 (or 5) "retrieved" those jewels back for the monarchy. Either way, I don't think it was a theft. It was either the Windsors selling those jewels for money or an MI6 (or 5) inside job.

Many of the stories I have read of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor paint them as less than honourable people, so they did leave themselves open to suspicion and gossip. We'll never know the truth, but if there was some "dodgy work at the crossroads", it doesn't appear to have brought them much joy as they didn't seem to have had a happy existence.

It certainly would not have happened in this day and age - royalty or not. Insurers do a full investigation, and even then do not always pay-out in full. I was blessed to see Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford in _Phantom_ 💖 She was brilliant! Very thoughtful of Lord Lloyd-Webber.

Hello Neil, I must say that I think they were capable of pulling off an insurance scam.... because of who they were, they were no doubt quite confident that things wouldn't be checked too thoroughly, imho. Penny from Christchurch. 🇬🇧

Love this story. Cash strapped Duke whose wife's jewelry goes missing ? I am on team " They Scammed the Isurance Company". Wallis had a gorgeous collection of jewelry. The panthers are my favorite.

Neil Sean, I could tell you a story about a pair of emerald earrings from that particular auction. They had a couple of missing stones.😮

Owning a lot of valuables in your house makes you a soft target for burglaries. My Aunt found this out the hard way, three robberies, the police said if robbers want to get in they will. Security systems have improved since then - but still, living simply seems safer.

Yes! The Parting Glass is now a staple, as it should be. My favorite part that still has me howling is when they go to Ned's house, in the dark. One of them thinks he's touched Ned's guts, and jumps back. Twas only his dinner!
