Barrels are quite nice if you need to conserve space because you don't need an empty space above them. But the dual chest reduces the ui's you need to interact with and having barrels can make working with villagers more difficult because they will claim the barrels as workstations and you have to break all your barrels to get anything other than a fisherman...

The issue with barrels is that with typical storages, the way chests are organised you need less area to interact with chests. Meanwhile, barrels require interaction surface for each barrel- Meaning chests are more suitable for being compact. However, barrels being blocks and not entities(I think) prob makes it better for lag

there's 3 reasons i don't use barrels. they're a workstation, which is annoying if you have nearby villagers. you use slabs, which is more annoying to craft. and they cannot be waterlogged, which means creepers are gonna blow up my damn barrels.

barrels aren't entities, they're technically cheaper ((by a single plank)), they fill up an entire block which just looks nice, and they don't require an empty space above them. the only thing that chests have over barrels is doubling, which is only sometimes a benefit. also, MAYBE the fact that you can hide stuff behind chests.

Barrels are more server-friendly and silent, and relatively cheaper. Chests are easier to craft, are more nostalgic and can be combined into a double chest, and also receives Christmas textures. Both have their benefits, meaning this war was ultimately pointless and people should be allowed to like whatever they wish to like, as long as it does not hurt others, and I'd say liking a different but very similar storage method is not harmful to anyone unless you enforce it.

8 slabs = 4 planks because 12 slabs are crafted from 6 planks, which means it's twice as cheap and comes with some extra slabs to use for an extra barrel once you craft 2 barrels normally

Barrels are actually more expensive than chests, since you’ll always spend 9 wood crafting the barrel, cause the slabs take 3 wood and then you need 6 more wood. With sticks you need 4 wood for the sticks and 3 wood for the slabs, so only if crafted with sticks is it cheaper
