Dexter also sold fur coats and fur mittens to Chinese merchants in the *West Indies* during a *record heatwave.* As it turned out, the merchants were on their way from China to Siberia.

It’s like Trump and Steve Jobs compared to the other rich and powerful types of the modern world. I’m not saying that I’m fond of either man, but the boars managed to become rich through one or two good deals among generally fucked up life decisions. And the polished upper crust have always hated them for it, and tried to destroy their businesses.

George Washington wasn’t unlike Dexter, especially in his early years. The difference is that Washington was born a rich aristocrat, so his scandals and mistakes got swept under the rug. My point is that a lot of people have stumbled into power and success by sheer good timing despite their past.

If you think about it, he literally couldn’t of gotten luckier with the time he was born. If shipping stuff overseas or to another island was any more advanced or primitive then like 1/2 his business ventures would become useless due to it not coming in at the right time.

And the length of those voyages could vary by entire months, if they even survived the voyage (weather and Caribbean piracy destroyed a huge fraction of all shipping.). Dexter is also lucky nobody thought to cheat him.

Christopher Columbus was originally planning to oversee cargo fleets, until his reputation (and a lot of his money) was sunk by pirates. Talk about bad luck, yet he was supposedly one of the only people to survive to swim ashore, talk about good luck. Not even to mention his luck that allowed him to discover “America” ‘first.’ Luckily the Vikings in North America and Portuguese in South America hadn’t made a big deal about their discoveries.

He also once sent Bibles to the East Indies, a not exactly Christian friendly area. Only, turns out there were missionaries there at the same time, who were eager to use them to spread Christianity. Also, once he married his wife, he decided to play the stock market...by picking stocks at random. The ones he picked ALL went up.

Oh sure, I've been blessed by RNGesus before. A fox one day spied a beautiful bunch of white grapes hanging from a vine trained along the branches of a tree. The grapes seemed ready to burst with juice, and the fox's mouth watered as he gazed longingly at them. The bunch hung from a high branch, and the fox had to jump for it. The first time he jumped, he missed it by a long way. So he walked off a short distance and took a running leap at it, only to fall short once more. Again and again he tried, but in vain. Now he looked at the grapes in disgust. "What a fool I am" he said. "Here I am wearing myself out to get a bunch of sour grapes that are not worth gaping for." And off he walked very, very scornfully.
