The video is full of mistakes unforntunatly. As a Dutchie and being I believe only 1 year older then Joost, I got into KZbin around the same time he did. He was one of if not the only dutch creator I actually kept up with. His content was always refreshing and filled with comedy. But this video poorly highlights his early career and overstates his fame in my opinion. It was all very indie, unknown to most dutch people. and even his early fans could admit that he isn't know for his amazing singing voice or high quality production. His content is raw, just pure creativity. I believe one of if not the first song he uploaded "deze beat heb ik zelf gemaakt" was just a joke, his YT career wasn't going so well anymore. YT changed, it was now filled with other creators making more mainstream appealing content, vloggers where at a peak and Joost was absent from the platform for longer stretches of time with occasional videos that sort of felt "empty". It felt like he kinda burnout out on his older style of content and was struggling to adept to the new and changing algorithms. And that's when he suddenly dropped that song, loosely translating too, I made this beat on my own. showing to me that he was just experimenting, finding new ways to express his creativity. The vocals where bad, the quality was bad, the editing was worse then the early 2000 homebrew vids but yet it felt authentic. I seemed he was enjoying himself again and so did his old fans. The music video got bigger then he ever anticipated I think and he decided to keep uploading new songs. Every song slightly improved on the quality as we could see him growing in this new way of expressing himself. Most songs are full of memes at this point but that was always his style using comedy to cope with the struggles life can trow at you. At this point his career starts to slowly pick up again and with this new gained fame he gets the collab with Donnie who, at that point, recently broke trough in the mainstream dutch music scene. with his matured production Joost manged to capture a much larger public then before and suddenly his career really took off, getting bookings and collabs left right and center. and just as in his early video creator career he kept it refreshing, always collabing with others and being what could be described as genre fluid. He felt authentic, exploring his own creativity and expression without catering too the masses. I think it was that attitude that captured the attention of many younger people, he might not have been the greatest singer of his time but he was real, relatable... raw. To conclude, i am very curious as to how Joost will grow in the future, i have absolutely no clue to what sort of song he will be dropping for eurovision but i know one thing for certain, he will show all of those doubters who Joost is because he wears his soul on his sleeves.
