Dwight was an amazing athlete who accomplished remarkable things on a ballfield....but it will be his life of devotion to his wife and children that I will most remember him for. He persevered through enormous family hardships and was a rock of responsibility as a family man, that makes his baseball achievements take a backseat. A person's merit is measured in character. Dwight Evans is a person of true grit, spirituality, love and empathy. That is the greatest measure of a man.

I met him in 2001 when the Red Sox visited San Diego for the first time. I am a lifelong Sox fan and worked Security for the Padres while stationed there in the Navy. He is the nicest, down to earth guy you will ever meet. One of my favorite players growing up in New England in the 70s and followed him throughout his career.

This man deserves everything that comes to him in life. How he is not in the baseball hall of fame disgusts me. One of the very best players in baseball history, and one of the nicest human beings on Earth. One day you’ll get there Dwight, and I hope someone’s smart enough to make it happen in your lifetime sir.

Dewey was my favorite player. I don't remember the details now but I remember the game. I was able to be at that game, haven't been able to attend since. Mid to late 80's against Baltimore. Overcast day, some mist and threat of rain. Bottom of the 9th, Sox down by 1. Runner on 1st (I think) and I think it was 2 out. Dewey comes to bat. All of a sudden a hole opened in the clouds and a beam of sunlight shown down on the field. Then he parked it over the monster. 2 run homer to walk it off, wow what a moment.

WOW!!! One of my favorite Red Sox of all time. Dewey SHOULD b in Cooperstown soon... Come on veterans committee... 8 gold gloves... 1400 ribbies.... 389 dingers... HELLO??? Thanx for this video. He was a lunchpail, consistent ballplayer who didn't fight that much with his wife cause he didn't have a lot of " 0 - 4 ". Lol. Thanx again Dewey. Enjoyed watching u play. Late

I noticed a few great baseball players from those times that Dewey was involved in and though Greg "The bull" Luzinski comes close , I strongly believe that Steve Garvey and Dale Murphy should be enshrined in HOF , but with no doubt at all Dwight Evans is a Hall of Famer

Dwight Evans played Professional Baseball the Way it is meant to be played: Offense and Defense. We share the same Month and Year: Nov. 3rd, 1951 and Nov. 11th, 1951. The HOF Veterans Committee should vote in Mr. Evans and " El Tiante " - Luis Tiant - together !! Dennis Marrotte, Westbrook, Maine

Dwight my favorite player he led the a.l in hrs. 1980s. It's arbitrary and by chance... Eddie Murray had 2 less hrs then played for lad in1989 ..and finished with 272 hrs.. they both very consistent great hitters with Murray being better but my problem is with Tony Perez being in hof being less dominant and Harold Baines who I love are both less deserving

I believe Dewey will be enshrined eventually, I just pray he doesn't suffer the same fate as another long-overlooked and deserving player, Ron Santo - elected only after he had passed.

Of course, Dwight had some very good years at the plate, but his defensive prowess was unreal. So many gold gloves and an arm like a cannon. Should be in HOF in my opinion but mine does not count.
